Summer Days....

Good Evening  my dears..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
We sure had a hot one for us ..

Our little village was full of people trying to get cooled off.. smile..
There were so many people that there were not any place left to park down by the caves..
I have never seen so many..
So many bikers went past my shop..
Dozens at a time, actually..
I hope they got cooled off..

Our son called from up home and said it was terrible..
He was working and had to go buy an air conditioner so he could sleep..
Poor kid..
Then the other son said everyone was almost sick as it was so hot..
When it comes to heat a lot of us Maritimers just can't take it..
You Texans probably think we are a bunch of wimps...grin...

My hubby picked a bunch of strawberries on Friday so over the weekend we did up 7 batches of jam which was 49 jars..

I was so glad to get that job done.. Believe me..
Thank God our old cottage stays cool downstairs..

I picked a bunch of herbs and roses to make my moisturizing ointment..
Comfrey, lavender, plantain, and roses...

Sunday morning we went to church in St. John and had a wonderful service..
We had a chance to say good bye to our grandsons who were going to Youth Camp with their cousin (another of our grandsons) and his friend..
Praying they will have a blast but also that they will be inspired to draw closer to God..

On our way home we had to stop for this..
Isn't that the sweetest thing?
My, I love ducks...

Today was cooler so I cooked a turkey supper..
They were on sale and I find it is so nice to have the leftovers in the fridge..
We have a lot of company here and turkey is so versatile for meals..

A soup is probably going to be made tomorrow..
It is going to be another cool and rainy day..

This is the strawberry rhubarb crisp I made for dessert..

It turned out lovely although I used splenda for some of it..
I used this recipe HERE..
For the fruit I used a mixture of both fruits and added at least a half cup of splenda to the fruit as rhubarb is sour..
It is a wonderful fast dessert..
Serve it with vanilla ice cream.. mmmmmm..
Terry loved it of course..

I hope you all are enjoying your summer days and thanks so much for your sweet comments..
I read each one although I have not been too good at responding as I seem to be busy.. So sorry..
Please forgive me..

I shall try to do better..

God bless..

  2. Hi Faye, Your turkey dinner looks just scrumptious!!! I just told Jim that we need some good old fashion comfort food. We have had quite a bit of hot dogs, hamburgers and macaroni salad. I could sit right down to that delicious turkey dinner right now. Where do you find the time for all this cooking! Seriously! You are a go-getter. And the cottage looks cuter than ever.Looks like yhou have been putzing around and making it look so cozy and very comfortable!

We had a wonderful family time at Kim's cottage. You know it makes a heart feel so good to be with your children, doesn't it? I love them dearly.

Enjoy your week. I know you will be busy, while I'll probably take a nap!!!!!!! HAAHEEE!

  3. Hello, Dear Faye!
It is 5 am here. The dogs got me up at 4, so I thought I would read some blogs. I love your posts. They are peaceful and sweet and show your love for God and others. The Bay is gorgeous. I have never really seen "real" pictures of it. Just a picture when I talk about its unusual tides when I teach. I must say, I went on a journey of sorts clicking on the "other posts" beneath this one. It took me on a journey about your shop and cottage and Keepers at the Sea. I loved it. I especially loved the one about the beach campfire that God sent. Loved it. It is stinkin' hot here with perpetual storms and rain each day that does NOT make it better. Bleck! We finally put another window air conditioner in because I was getting such headaches (and cranky) from the heat. I just wanted to say how much I am blessed by your posts. Takes care! Big hugs!

    Heather
PS Looking at the dinner at 4 am, well, I am starving now. Guess it will be hard to find a turkey dinner at 4 am, huh?

  5. Good morning, Faye!

Loved the picture of the tricycle with the flowers! As you know, here in SJ has been icky for the heat and humidity as well. Oh well, this just makes us appreciate normal temperatures even more:) I hope all of your hard work in preparing the shop for the season is paying off for you! Such a charming place.

Take care, and as always loved reading about your goings on:)

    Kim

P.S. I'll have gravy on my vegetables, thank you:)

  6. Everything you do is so wonderful. Love the scrumptious desserts and turkey dinner. You would be a great restaurant adviser/consultant.
... and that string of little ducks is absolutely precious. You are so smart to have your camera handy.

  8. Good morning Faye,
Goodness your area is just so beautiful. Oh the heat is horrible here too. We have only reached 92 degrees but that is so hot especially with humidity added. You just feel wet going outside. Thank goodness for air conditioners, right!
Your Strawberry Rhubarb crisp looks just so inviting - I have 3 bundles of Rhubarb in the refrigerator that I'm going to make a big Rhubarb cake with and then not sure with the rest. Possibly just some good ole Rhubarb sauce.
Oh yum....Turkey - only have it at Thanksgiving in our house and I'm not sure why because it's such an easy food to prepare and the leftovers are so great.
Blessings to you and stay cool.
    Karen

  10. That looks like the perfect place to cool off. The water is so beautiful! It is so very hot today here as well and very humid so I feel your pain. That little duck family is the cutest thing ever. I'm glad everyone stopped so they could cross the road. So sweet!

  11. Wow... I heard it was hot at home- the temps have been nice here. I have a sweater on today :) Were you busy at the shop with the extra people in St. Martins?

  12. Hello, I hear ya about it being HOT. :-) We love our cool summer days. 90 with 75% humidity is hard on us Northerners. Ha Ha.
In all truth, all is GOOD. Our garden is having a lovely time with this hot and humid weather. Thank you Lord for it!

  14. We are enjoying hot and humid weather here in Winnipeg as well! Mother Nature determines what each day will bring and has blessed us with a very warm summer. Love the photos of the area and the yummy looking supper and dessert...shall head off to the kitchen to make the strawberry/rhubarb crisp right now!

  15. I Faye, I've been really busy with our family here and the two little grandsons are so cute and fun to play with but they are wearing this grammie out. The heat and humidity haven't helped much either! I love the photo of the beach in St. Martins with the beautiful cliffs in the background. It is so gorgeous there and I'm sure much nicer than the heat we've had inland. It looks and smells like we might get some rain soon here. Enjoy the rest of the week. Blessings, Pam

  16. It's always comforting to stop in for a visit with you via the internet. I love seeing your photos of where you've been and what you're up to. The ducks are adorable, we saw a family of geese trying to cross a four lane hi-way a few weeks back, it was so sweet!
Your rhubarb dessert looks delis! I like to make that recipe, it's so good with vanilla ice-cream.
I'm at Family Camp this week, Nathan Scoggins from Austin Texas is our night speaker, and Chad Williams from Appleton Wisconsin is our Youth speaker. They are both very good, God moved in and healed several people last night and many young people prayed through to the Holy Ghost. God is GOOD!
    Hugs, Cindy
