Our Marilla's Table Meal...

Good Evening everyone...
How are you doing tonight?
Just doing a wee posting of a dinner Terry and I enjoyed..
I had been wanting to do it this winter and that season is almost over!
So finally, last weekend I got to it..

It was a meal inspired by Marilla of Anne of Green Gables..

A few years ago I took a cooking class over on P.E.I.
We had friends (Becky and Becca) visiting from Arkansas and we did the class together..

It was at an old rural church turned into a restaurant who put on the class for a day..
The restaurant is named The Table...
The meal we chose to be a part of that day was named ...
Marilla's Table...

It was so much fun..
We helped prepare a full course dinner and then we sat at a table that was as long as the sanctuary..  I believe it sat forty people..
The table was beautifully set with lovely dishes and napkins and such.
Then they had waiters who served us the meal we had helped with..
So much fun!

Anyway....
although this was several years ago I still am such a fan of Marilla..
I have watched many of the shows and always notice the table settings.

I was so excited to actually thrift 6 goblet type glasses just like she had on one of her tables..

So....
I decided to make a simple menu that she perhaps would have served..
Nothing fancy just ordinary Maritime food ..
We had Acadian Chicken Fricot..
Homemade White Bread
Homemade Dill Pickles
Homemade Butter
Aunt Henry's  War Cake
Tea..

Should have had some cordial but I actually just now thought of it.. ❤
The Fricot is very easy to make and delicious!
One of our fave meals, actually!
The flavouring is the herb Summer Savoury and lots of chicken, carrots, celery, onions and potatoes..
Then topped with dumplings..

And..

Homemade White Bread...
And dill pickles I made in the fall..
Homemade butter made from whipping cream using my Kitchen Aide.

Marilla's table settings are always old dishes...

This is a dish from one episode where she is using Flow Blue dishes..
My fave...

So... I decided to use my Flow Blue..
Several of these pieces are from my great Aunt Emily..
The soup tureen is one from her.
But I have been collecting it for quite some time...

He is such a dear to always humour me in my shenanigans..

I appreciate that because I am always coming up with some idea or another.. 😏❤

I am not much of a dumpling fan... 😘

I think he enjoyed the meal especially when it came to the dessert..

He has been after me to make another one since..
Very old fashioned...

I found this recipe on line somewhere..
I thought it was Little Women but I am not sure..
I thought it was sweet that it was named Aunt Henry's.
Appropriate... lol..

Here are some of the recipes for you...

Acadians are a very big part of the Maritimes and their recipes are always delicious..

please excuse terrible writing..
you can use butter instead of magarine..

Some lovely tulips that brightened our days and says Spring is on her way...

Well, dearies this is all for tonight..
I hope you enjoyed this post which is a bit different from the usual daily life ones..

I wanted to say how much I so love your comments..
I tried replying to the actual post comments but realized that most of them are not going back to the comment writers because it is an anonymous selection..
I need to come up with a solution to this..

But thank you...
I love reading them all on Instagram and the Facebook page as well as here on the blog..
I can respond to Instagram and Facebook..

I also wanted to say hi to a lady who took the class with us from the U.S.
Joyce K
She has been so faithful reading and sharing my posts..
Thank you, dear Joyce ...

Hope all is well in your part of the world dear friends..
Tomorrow is the Lord's Day...

We are so blessed in this country to have the freedom to go to our dear little church and worship Jesus together with our brothers and sisters in Christ..
If you live in our area we would love to have you go with us..
On Sunday mornings at 10:30
We can worship and receive such encouragement and peace there..

Where some of you live you probably have blossoming flowers and such but this is actually how it is here today ..
Snow and slush and typical Canadian March weather..
Oh well..
I am not rushing anything .. lol..

Love to you all and may God bless you richly..
Try to trust in Him and make Him the priority in your life..
He is just so awesome...
Hugs...

The Winter is Passing...2026

Hello my dears!
How are you all doing?
Come in and sit down for a bit..
So glad to have you visit..

But a little warning....
very long post to follow.. I should do more smaller posts.
perhaps you can just scroll on by....❤

Imagine!  February has passed!

We have been well and have been enjoying our winter days..
I find it funny that I am not hurrying the season..
The older I get the more I seem to savour the slow resting days of winter..

Our weather has not been terrible..
Just typical Canadian snow, wind and whatever...
Some really cold days and some lovely mild ones..
Spring is on her way though so we will welcome her..

Some things we have been doing along the way...
Little country drives..
As Terry says...
We don't go far but we go often.. 😏❤

Then here at home just puttering and doing this and that..

The dear man has cleaned copper quite often..
We brought home a bunch from the farm and I have been putting it here and there...

Cleaning my pantry..
I told my friend the other day that I seem to have to clean it every time I turn around...
I am so messy but love that little space..
I wish I could get enough energy and help from you know who to really redo the whole thing but I am not holding my breath! lol!
Meantime, as I am the queen of compromise I will change the stuff on the shelves and make a new cupboard curtain and such!

Let's see... what else ?

Making some food..
no knead bread as always...

lots and lots of soup...
I say I am a soup nazi.. lol..

trying a few new recipes..
some I get a good report like the Chinese dish above... kind of a stir fry with spaghetti..
then I have had not good reports..
you know what he says..well, Faye, I am just saying in my opinion I would do such and such...
Yeah, well I loved it... haha!
i will try something else... 😙

This was a delicious soup ..
Although he liked it, he thought I shouldn't chop the veggies so small..

And it had barley in it..
He loved barley for years but now he prefers rice..
This is from the cookbook called
The Farmer's Wife
My life in days..
by Helen Rebanks
It was free on my Kindle.. I love her recipes..
This took me a whole day I think but I froze about 6 containers and ate several portions..
It is called Ham Hock Broth..

I forgot to take a pic but I did a batch of Apple Butter from another free Kindle book called... The Little Women Cookbook..
It is lovely.
I spent several hours planning a valentine's dinner for my friends..
I was going to do a Little Women's theme but the weather forecast was not good for those days so I thought I should rethink it and perhaps have something later.
It was fun planning it though..

Made this new cake recipe..

the recipe link is above..

it is a very dense cake and I found I need it is better after sitting in the tin for a few days.
More moist, perse..
And so lovely with a hot cup of tea after supper..
It is called a Splendid Cake...

Isn't this the sweetest?
Winter and Spring on it's way..
I do so love the Lovely Things...
God's precious blessings for our days..
Imagination's wonderland.. ❤❤
Thank you Jesus!

Remember the last post I had started felting the fox...
I really loved how it turned out so I did a rabbit and a mole..
Saw pics on pinterest and just did my own thing..
I love wool felting... You can probably click on them to see them better..

Then every few months I make my hot pickles..

Every little bit cauliflower and peppers are on a good sale so
I make sure I get a few jars done..
Oh... no Terry does not favour these.  haha!
He has lots of dills, mustard, bread and butters and such, though.. ❤

I am doing a bit of housecleaning.... a bit!  😏
I did my quilt cupboard this past week...

And took pics of a couple of quilts from my great Aunt Emily to show you..
The above one is a coverlet...
Isn't is lovely?
My Mom passed these on to me...

And this one is so amazing..
All the handwork!
I think it may have come from England..
Have any of you seen anything like it before?

And...
I made some Marigold salve

And several inhalers..

Trying to rebuild my gift pantry..
I need to do a lot more..

Bought these beautiful bulbs to brighten our day..

And they smell so gorgeous!

Something I do too much of, I know..
Reading... my most fave activity.
I do not watch television but I do read a lot..

This is a book I have read several times, and then wish she were my neighbour...
We would be kindred spirits.. ❤
They have it on Amazon..
 She is a wonderful author!
The Long Road Home Romance Collection
Four romances with an enduring pioneering spirit..
Her name is Judi Ann Ehresman

Whenever I find something in books that call my name then I underline it.
Or copy and paste passages and put it in the notes on my phone..
I do that with Bible verses or such too..
Oh and I might message them to a friend.. Just sayin'  xo

This past month would have been my dear father's 97th birthday..
I put this on Facebook..

just thought you might like to see...
a long time ago..

And we had Valentine's Day...
I only took this pic to show..
dessert
Cherry Cheese Pie..

We did have a nice dinner..
I made one of his fave meals ...

And as always this was my valentine to him..

The dear man!
He came out with a box of my fave candy behind his back !😙
So thankful for him..
Most days!  lol..

Well dear hearts, this is all for this time..
And such a time it is!
We go to bed and wake up to a news that is fearsome!

The world is on a one way trip to something that has been written about many years ago ...
Bible prophecy is being unfolded before our eyes in such rapid order..
Jesus is coming soon..
But...
There is still time to prepare to meet Him..
2 Corinthians 6:2
For he says,"In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you."  Behold, now is the favorable time: behold now is the day of salvation.
Deuteronomy 4:29
"But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and with all your soul".

Jesus is our Redeemer ..
God made a way by which we can be saved and make heaven our home..
Jesus made the supreme sacrifice that we may have our sins forgiven..
In the New Testament in the Book of Acts chapter 2 and verse 38 is the plan of salvation as preached by Peter on the Day of Pentecost..

This is just a short thought to encourage you that we don't need to fear but to put ourselves in His hands and make Him our first priority in our lives.   A daily experience with Him..
He is longing to know us..
I so love Jesus!  He is wonderful in my life..

If you live in my area and want to know more about the plan of salvation please send me a message..
We can get together and talk about Him..
❤❤❤❤❤
God bless you all and thank you for dropping by...
Hugs from New Brunswick..
