A Saturday Night Posting...

Good Evening everyone..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend..

Yesterday we woke up to lovely sunny day.
The wind was blowing and so I just had to put a line of clothes out..
I love my bedding and night clothes dried outside the best.
I do towels if the wind is fierce but otherwise they are too hard.. One lovely thing about being retired is that there is not as much laundry as when the kids were home so I can pick and choose a bit of what I put in the dryer..
I understand that some of you would not use a dryer no matter what but I am not that much of a purist.. sorry...
I think I paid my dues by doing many a line of frozen diapers and such in the early years..
That's my excuse and I am sticking to it.. smile.

We had to go to Sussex and take back some library books and do some errands ..
We took a wee side road and took this pic..

Spring in Eastern Canada, I would say..
Pretty soon there will be fiddleheads growing along these country brooks..
We love our spring greens and even pickle them..
You who have been following the blog for ages know all about them...

For lunch I made this wonderful Italian soup..

I had a bunch of extra spinach that needed used up soon so voila...

SPINACH STRACCIATELLA SOUP WITH ORZO..
The link  is HERE..
I for some reason did not have orzo so I used a small pasta that was in the pantry ..
Also .. I did only half of the recipe as I was sure it would not be Terry's type..
I was right.. He opened a can of Campbell's Vegetable Soup..
There is no accounting for taste, I guess..
As for me ..
I loved it..
It tastes a lot like my Italian Wedding Soup that you can find HERE..
Of course, the only protein in the spinach soup is the egg..
Takes less time to make then the wedding soup, too..

Then this is what this morning looked like out of our family room window..

Yupppp... free fertilizer as the farmers say around here..

Our sweet son and his girlfriend surprised me last Sunday with this lovely bird feeder..
The birds have found it although it is not hung yet..
It is full of sunflower seeds..
Terry actually bought a hanger for it today so it will soon be up, Veronique.. grin..
She was afraid it would take him some time to do..

Another little tradition that I have for most Saturday mornings..

Fresh coffee beans and I use my French Press..
So delicious..
Such sweet little blessings from the Lord, eh?

Terry requested this for our dinner tonight..

I made it for the first time a month or so ago and I am still amazed that he likes it so much..

Sausage and Shrimp Jambalaya

I found the recipe here..
I of course have changed it to suit us..
I added a whole can of tomatoes, a bay leaf and some fresh parsley, though..
We add our own hot sauce, too..

Well, my dears here is something I hope to post on next week..

The many things you can do with tea towels..
Hopefully... anyway..

That is all for tonight..
Thanks so much for dropping by..

Tomorrow is the Lord's Day and if there was ever a time in history to see the importance of attending church it is now..

We are living in a very unstable time..
What can be shaken will be shaken as the Bible says..

I pray for my children and grandsons that God will cover and protect them..
That they will always remember when Jesus came by and saved their souls and gave them peace..
The only real peace in this world is knowing that Jesus is your Savior and that he died for you that you can have eternal life ..
That you can put your complete trust in his love and mercy..

I pray for this world and it's leadership...

And for you dear friend..

If you don't know Christ as your Savior and have never repented of your sins then Jesus is available to you tonight..
He is the calm in the storm and he can make your life something beautiful..
You may not be down and out but there may be an empty spot in your heart that cries out for something to satisfy..
Jesus is as near as the mention of his name..

Take the time to put him first in your life and when this old world is on it's downward spiral you will have something to hold onto..
A dear sweet hand that will always be there..
Holding and protecting ..
He loves you ..

Have a blessed Sunday my dears..

Daily living and a couple of questions..

Hello there dear hearts..
How are you doing?

Today is ending up with a lovely sun shining although we started out with a cold grey one..
Our Spring seems to be progressing rather slowly but there has not been any snow so that is fine.

Here are a few pics of everyday doings..
Starting more sprouts growing..

Ran out.. again..
I need to start a bottle half way through the one I am working on.. smile..

A trio of sweet bowls I picked up at the thrift stores yesterday..

I have a thing for bowls and these ones are small and come in so handy...

Tonight for supper we had an old standby..

Pasta with minced beef and tomato sauce..

Then of course another loaf of bread had to be made..

We were trying to figure out how many loaves of bread that we buy per month and I think perhaps we might buy 2..
Only 1 ... or 2...
A loaf lasts here for 3 days unless we have company as I try not to eat it..

I do eat lots of salad, though..

Here is a new recipe for salad dressing for you..

SPICY TOMATO VINAIGRETTE ..

In a pint size mason jar combine the following..
1 cup of tomato juice
1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. celery salt
1/2 cup of olive or canola oil
sea salt and freshly ground pepper
a few shakes of hot pepper sauce
1 tsp. sugar

Place the cover on your jar and shake really well..
Keep in the fridge..
A really nice change and it keeps well for a couple of weeks..
You can add hot sauce to taste..

We had some company for dinner after church on Sunday..
The little guys were thrilled that Grandpa found an antler in the garden...

Such sweet lads..

Above you may note my messy book shelves..
It was a good thing I took the picture as I decided they were a definite priority to clean..

Still not great but so much better..
What is a house without books?..
The more the better in my opinion..

As I was browsing through the bookshelves at a thrift store yesterday I overheard a lady telling another one that they were not making any more books and that the publishers were all closing down..

GASP...
That is not even funny..

Could you imagine a world without books..
Just computer type things?
I don't even want to think about it myself..

Do you like to read real books the best?

I know that there are times that an ereader would come in handy but when I want to relax with a book I need to feel it in my hands and smell the paper and ink..
And I don't want to adjust if you know what I mean..
I have been in love with books my whole life..

Every room in this house has a stash somewhere in it..
On a bookshelf or closet space or in a suitcase under the bed or piled on the window seat or stashed in an old ottoman..
Mercy...
They are part of my decor.. smile..

When Terry and I first married we had a couch with a skirt on it..
Remember those?

Well..
He had not met a bookworm before..
The poor man could not relate to it at all..

He thought it was a perfect waste of time and when you are  married with a couple of kids as far as he was concerned reading came at the bottom of the list..

I practically wore out the skirt of the couch from sweeping my books underneath it when I would hear him at the door.. grin..

But...
The years passed by and he came to realize that me reading was almost the same as breathing and he came to grips with it.. smile..

Now...
Forty some years later he takes me to the books stores and buys me books and magazines..
Even suggests that we stop by the library..
Such a dear man.. smile...

One of the most best feelings I have is when I have a stack of books waiting for me..
Are you like that?

Well, I have gone on long enough for this time..

As you can see I take book reading seriously..
How about you sweet ladies?
Do you read and what is your favorite type of book?

I love the Word of God and it blesses me daily..
I also love to read and learn...

One of the blessings of my life I would say..

Thanks for your visit and can't wait to hear your comments on the book questions..

God bless...

Keepers of the Home Meeting for April..

Good Monday Evening..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth..
So glad you dropped by.

A cool day here in New Brunswick..

We had Keepers meeting on Saturday and had a wonderful morning..

Here are some pics of the girls having breakfast..
A continental one..
Fruit Salad, banana muffins, toast, donut muffins, no knead cinnamon raisin bread (recipe HERE..) scrambled homegrown eggs (thanks Lorraine), juice, coffee, tea ..

Then we had a little lesson..
Using our five senses and imagining being our own guest at our own door..
Realizing that Christ is the door that makes our homes what we are striving for them to be..

We also made some plans for next month when it is Mother's Day..

Then making our wood heart craft ..
Lots of fun and fellowship..

Hope you all had an awesome weekend..
Take care of yourselves and your sweet families..
Are you having lovely Spring weather in your part of the world?

Praying for you..

Home Days..

Hello my dears..
Another very windy day here in Eastern Canada..
The wind has a bite to it but the clothes smelled so heavenly and dried so well..
I even did a line of blankets.. smile..

I found my camera thank the good Lord..
I was so happy..
It was in the truck although I had checked it all over before..
I think it was your prayers.. smile..
It was in under the divider ...
Anyway..

Made some cookies to put in the freezer today..
We seem to have visitors who like them..

Here are some pics of our Easter weekend..

Went to breakfast at the Big Stop and actually saw my sweet cousin who works there.. (sometimes.. grin..)
The wee boys were not quite awake, I think..

They woke up though when we spied these herds of deer on the way home..

Cars were stopping to watch them..
Dozens of deer..

The dogs played themselves out..
One of Dustin's dogs reminds me of Sammi..
I miss him..
When they visit they run the fields and get their exercise..
They are city dogs but love the country..

Good bye dear old Grandma..
I am sure that is what he is saying.. grin..
Love our grandsons..
They were here for Easter Dinner..

Our supper this night..

Chicken legs, rustic potatoes and beet salad..
The legs and potatoes were coated in a bit of oil, rosemary, lemon, garlic, a speck of hot peppers and onion..

The seal of approval was given by hubby..

A bit substantial as he worked hard today..

It is a bit scary for me when I hear that old power saw going and see him heading for the trees..

A few years ago he was only going to cut down a pine tree that he was afraid would ruin the basement or roof and ended up cutting down a plum tree or two and half of the honeysuckle also..

Today when I heard him out there I thought perhaps the old orchard would be missing tomorrow.. grin..

But the dear man only cut down one dead apple tree and part of another that had fallen down..

I love burning apple wood in the fireplace..
It has a particular smell that is lovely..
Do you ever burn apple wood?

We have a lot of old apple trees that lose a limb here and there amd Terry stacks it up just for the fireplaces...

While taking  pics off of the deck I noticed this..

My gardening table..
I think it will be a few weeks yet but it sure needs a clean up..
All in due time, I guess..

We got around a bit last weekend..
Stopped by our oldest son's house and our youngest son was there visiting, too..
There they go..

Family ...
I so love them all..
God has been faithful and I am thankful for all He has done and is doing..

Well, ladies I must go..
Thank you all for your sweet visits and comments..
Love your company..

Take care...

A Windy Day ...

Good Evening Everyone..
A very windy and cool day here in New Brunswick.

I turned the fireplace on and spent a bit of time in the sun room.
Hence the photos.. smile..
This is where I sew and such..

There will not be any gardening here for a few more weeks so I am enjoying my plants..

I found a couple of lovely linen towels at the thrift store and made a couple of bread bags.. The orange striped one is in the pic above..

The lovely tea set is a gift from my Mom for my last birthday..
I have an old china cabinet in there that belonged to Terry's grandfather..
I like keeping his mother's dishes and any special keepsakes..
Like the old doll that used to belong to my friend Julia..
You can read about her HERE..

Still preparing for Keepers on Saturday..
Looking forward to it..

Made some stir fry for supper tonight..
One of hubby's faves..

Well, girls that is all for tonight so thanks for dropping by.
Love reading all of your comments..

I answered your beeswax polish  questions in the last post comment form..

I have lost my camera ..
Praying that it can be found soon ..

God bless, my dears..
