Spring in Rural New Brunswick, Ca...

Good Evening my dears.. 

Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight.. 

Spring is such a glorious month and there is no place I would rather be then right here in good old New Brunswick.. 

You all know me.. 

I am not a traveller.. smile 

Today we were on our way to a Home Going service of a wonderful sister in the Lord and it was a beautiful drive so I thought I would take a few pics.. 

The lovely Belleisle Bay which has flooded due to the heavy rains over the weekend... 

Spied the sweet chickens...

Not very clear but they are there.. White ones.. 

Such a gorgeous bay of water.. 

Flooding as you can see but the roads were fine.. 

Grass is greener on the other side perhaps?  smile.. 

Next winter's wood.. 

I don't even want to think about it.. grin.. 

.Plenty of spring chores to do on these farms.. 

My favourite farm animal.. 

Love love sheep.. 

I am hoping one of my kids will read this and plan to put all of their money together and buy me one for Mother's Day.. 

I told Terry and he said ... no.... 

Oh well... 

I can dream.. smile.. 

Really.. 

He is lucky that I don't want one of these... 

Right?  grin.. 

Look at the horns on that thing..

There is a farm of them near Sussex.. 

A simply beautiful farm... 

I wonder what he is looking at... 

Dreams of yesterday... 

So sad when these old barns fall down... 

But still lovely... 

Back to Sussex...

the last few days...

good evening everyone... 

do you know this is the second time that i am doing this posting.. 

i had it all finished and went to correct a spelling and the whole thing disappeared.. sigh.. 

so i guess you will get the short version, now.. 

probably for the best anyway... smile.. 

i will just share some pics of the last few days with you..

a wonderful mother's day spent with our dear family... 

a gift of rhubarb from a sweet neighbor.. 

ours is not ready yet... 

making a loaf of bread to thank them for the rhubarb ...

and including a bottle of jam..

our tea time... 

oh, those dear sheep...

soaking apricots ....

to make a huge batch of apricot rhubarb jam.. 

it tastes kind of like marmalade...

trying out another new rhubarb recipe.. 

oriental rhubarb jam... 

good with pork or chicken, i am thinking...

i made thirty some jars of jam today... smile..

terry is putting a new roof on the old farm so i will likely be going out there with him...

Fiddleheads and Baby Lambs...

Good Evening everyone...

The other day when I posted some pics of the fiddle head pickles I made some of you commented that you would like to see what fiddle heads looked like.
I want to point out that these are not the ostrich fern.. They are poison... These are the fiddle head fern which is completely different..

In my email today a sweet reader who attends our church sent me these lovely pics of fiddle heads that grow by the river near

her farm.. She was so kind as to suggest that you girls might like to see them... Thanks, Jackie..

This is what they look like as they pop up through the earth.  They are only a few inches taller when you pick them.. Our son Trev picks about 50 pounds every Spring and freezes them as their 3 boys love them.. He washes them in the river many times in order to get rid of the brown paper like covering..

This is what they look like after they have grown up into the fern that they are.. smile..

Here is a close up of them...

They are delicious and taste something like broccoli or green beans or asparagus but much better in my opinion although I do love green beans almost as much.
