Making Violet Salve....

Hello all...
We have sun today !!  Thank you, Lord!!

I love the rain but after 3 weeks of mostly all cloudy weather it is so nice to see brightness....

On Monday when Terry and I went to St. Martins we made a wee detour and went to our daughter's house.
She had a huge bunches of violets growing by the brook and Terry waded right in and picked me a bag full... Bless his heart!

After we arrived home I sorted them all out....

Flowers...

and leaves...

The violet is one of my favorite flowers.. Aren't they beautiful?

I found a couple of these sweet old plates at a sale ..
They have violets on them..

Last year I had wrote down a recipe to make some salve.
Violets are full of vitamin A and  other good stuff...
Check it out here..
The salve is good for skin irritations such as hives, eczema and  rashe.. It is a  cooling salve good for inflamations..
Today I made some..

Here is the recipe that I used...

Violet Salve..
1 cup of violet flowers
1 cup of violet leaves
Make sure they are dry and place in a crock pot.
Cover with Almond Oil (about 2 cups)
Turn on your lowest setting of your pot  (keep warm)..
Let it sit overnight ...
In the morning strain through a cheese cloth..
Measure out 2 cups of the oil
Grate up 1/2 cup of beeswax..
Melt the beeswax in a double boiler until melted.
Add a few drops of Vitamin E .  Mix the oil and wax together with whisk.  I added violet oil.. (optional)
and some lavender oil .. (optional)
I like a nice mild scent for the salve..
I just shook it in until it smelled lightly..
Pour into containers...
Let cool...It should be firm...
Then...
I made some covers for the jars as I plan to sell these in my shop..

I also made a couple of jars of violet lotion..

Terry said to me today that he thinks that I have a lot of fun making this stuff...
I think that he is right.. smile...
What have you girls been busy at this week?  We can't seem to do any gardening as the rain has it all so wet..
Oh well... all in due time..
