Bits of Our Days...

Good Evening everyone...
Hope all is well with you..
Here in New Brunswick all is not well..
A lot of our province is flooded..

There was a lot of snow up in the northern parts and as it melts it flows into the St. John River which runs towards the Bay of Fundy in the southern part...
All the rivers, lakes and bays related to this is flooding big time..
Such a shame..
Homes, businesses, farms, cottages and camping grounds are under water...
The city of Fredericton and St. John and all areas in between are in a battle with rising waters..
The main highway to Fredericton is closed as is numerous roads and by ways..
Terry and I went for a drive to Hampton yesterday to see for ourselves..
There are so many pics and videos on Face Book but until you see some of it for yourself it is really hard to imagine..
It was a lovely sunny day after a very rainy windy night..

*I did up this post yesterday (Sunday) but did not post it until tonight.. sorry...

The little village of Bloomfield had to close two bridges..
The  Kennebecasis River is like a long lake...
This cemetery is very close to being flooded..
Roads are closed everywhere...
The Belleisle Bay and Grand Lake all have ruined cottages and travel trailors submerged ...
The poor dears..
At least a cottage is not your home and there are so so many homes completely ruined..
Our hearts go out to these people..
It is the worst flood in the history of our province..
Sending prayers that the waters will subside..
It is to rain here again tonight and tomorrow...
*thank the Lord it did not rain much and the sun came out today (Monday)

Here we are fine as we do not live near any waterways..

On to other things..
Made the most delicious corn chowder the other day..

Cut the corn off of a couple of ears of fresh corn, a can of corn, some potatoes and diced onions... cooked a couple of strips of bacon and such..
Then some cream...
Yes, it was a treat for sure...

Soon be in the salad season, I can't wait to have fresh salad greens and such.
I have seen some Coltsfoot growing, though so we will soon have dandelions..
This rain has greened up the grass so fast...

It will soon be herb time..
My favourite garden plants..

Did up a mason jar of dried rosemary leaves this week..
It was from the herb beds last summer at the farm..
Smells so heavenly..
I think I need to roast a chicken this week...

We are trying to get more housecleaning done but last week was almost a write off..

We did have a town day but then I had to go for a doctor's appointment and then another trip to Sussex on Thursday to see a play that our youngest grandson was in..
It was simply divine!!
 Anne of Green Gables..
They did such a professional play..
I so love Anne and of course our grandson, Joel was awesome!!
smile...
Joel is the teacher... There is Anne and her best friend Dianna..

Joel is the doctor here...

And the whole cast...
These pics are courtesy of the Sussex Christian School....

One more thing..

We had a Keepers of the Home meeting...
First for a long time..
It was lovely..
Made some wonderful waffles by Lindsay,
blueberry pie by Carmen and I shared the
Homemade Hamburger Helper recipes...

Made the Lasagne one last night for supper and it was really good..
For you girls who attended I found mini lasagne noodles at the Bulk Barn..
Very good price...

Well, dear hearts this is it for tonight..
Not much going on here at home but wanted to post something.. smile..
Thanks for being patient with me..

I thought I would share my sweetest blessing for today..
This morning in church three of our grandsons sat behind us and when they had the song service I could hear their dear voices singing out praises to the King of Kings..
So blessed that they know Jesus...
Touched my soul....
smile..

Below is a wonderful link for you girls who love your kitchens..
I found it inspiring and hope you do too..

cotes mill HERE

Enjoy your week and may God richly bless you all..
I will pray for you and you pray for me...

                                                   Hugs...

A THIS AND THAT POSTING....

Happy Rainy Monday ... My,  we have had sooooo much rain!!  It has been raining for days here in New Brunswick  and still no sun in the forecast until Wednesday..Oh, well it could be much worse....
Just giving you a little posting tonight...
I read something the other day about the lost art of having mealtimes around the table....
I know with just Terry and I having meals now without our children we sometimes don't.... I do love setting a table, though... Through the winter season it is nice to have a cozy supper with the fire burning and candles scenting the air with the table set with this old set of dishes or some other one..
I do think it is important for families to have meals sitting around their kitchen or dining room tables at least once a day...
It is such a blessing to touch base with each other and talk about your day... Also, it is a good opportunity to teach your children some little life lessons...
Such as...
Teaching them that saying Grace is a small way to show your thankfulness to the Lord..
You can teach them good manners..Good manners never go out of style...
Teach conversation skills by example....
Also, the setting of the table itself is a skill that they can use...
And how to be kind  to each other...
Anyway, just thought I would touch on that.... I am sure there are many more things we could add...

I actually started this post last night but decided to finish it this morening... Guess what?  It is still RAINING!!
I was just speaking with my Mom on the phone.. I am so blessed because I still have her and I can call her everyday... Anyway, she was saying how she really doesn't mind all this rain... I guess that is where I get it... I really don't mind it either... But of course my basement is dry and my heart goes out to those who are suffering because of water in their basement....

To change the subject.....lol...
We had a Keepers of the Home meeting on Saturday and had a good turnout...
Thanks to all the girls who came.....

We started the morning with coffee, tea, homemade apple muffins and toast with homemade pumpkin butter...  We also tried a Chai Tea recipe....
Then we had a lesson on Discouragment....
God is so faithful ....
We also had a litttle decorating lesson on how we can decorate a shelf,  table or windowsill with birdnests...
The girls seem to like this little tip...
In the pic they are starting the craft for the day...
A Cheesecloth Swag stamped with Stars...
It was such an easy craft that a Linsay and Mel decided to make a few for the Fellowship Hall..
.. Then we learned how to make Hamburger Helper from scratch thus no preservatives and all fresh...

You can make these litttle kits ahead and on a busy night you just add hamburger and a can of tomatoes or such and you have a neal that the children and Dad will love...
Thank you to
for these wonderful and healthy recipes...
As Moms I do think it is important to try and lessen the amounts of preservatives we are putting into our children.. As someone said to me the other day that rather than open a can of  soup that I would probably make it from scratch...lol.. That is true because to me it is just so much better tasting and so much better for you and yours and really does not take very long...
This recipe for Hamburger Helper is something to use when you are busy but it  is still healthy....
Isn't that great???

Well, girls I need to go and try and accomplish somethings today...
I asked my daughter last night what she would like for me to make her for Christmas...lol...
Anyway, she would like a Primitive Doll..... And that is something as you know I love to make .. So I am heading to my sewing room....
Pick out some fabrics and buttons....
Have a wonderful week and let me know what you are planning to make someone for Christmas...

Oh, I almsot forgot.....lol....
You girls wanted me to post the Pumpkin Butter recipe...
Here it is....
PUMPKIN BUTTER
6 CUPS OF PUMPKIN PUREE.
You can cut your pumpkins in half... take out the seeds, etc.. and place them cut side down on a cookie tray.. Roast in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until the fork will puncture through easily.. Then scoop out and put in your blender.... Or you can just peel and boil on top of the stove and mash and puree if you have a blender...
PUT YOUR 6 cups PUREE INTO YOUR CROCK POT..
ADD...
1 1/2 CUPS OF WATER
2 CUPS OF BROWN SUGAR
6 TSP. PUMPKIN PIE SPICE
1 TABLESPOON OF VANILLA
1 SMALL CINNAMON STICK  (if you like cinnamon) optional
BLEND WELL AND TURN YOUR CROCK POT ON LOW FOR 5 OR 6 HOURS UNTIL IT THICKENS.... STIR ONCE IN A WHILE..
I PUT THIS INTO MASON JARS AND FROZE IT  AS IT WILL NOT KEEP WELL..
IT DOES KEEP IN FRIDGE FOR 1 MONTH....

A GREAT GIFT FOR YOUR GIFT PANTRY .
PLACE IN A BASKET WITH A HOMEMADE BREAD OR MUFFINS AND A CIDER MIX...

OK... GIRLS .. I WILL BE LIFTING YOU ALL UP IN PRAYER...
GOD BLESS..
FAYE...
