In the Midst of the Storm..

Hello everyone..
How are you all doing?

Here in Eastern Canada we have a visitor by the name of Hurricane Arthur...
I believe he has had rather more power in the States and has downgraded to a tropical storm here but we are having fierce winds and tons of rain...

But you dear girls who have faithfully followed my blog through the years know that this is my kind of weather.. smile..
I do not want it to harm anyone but when it is just a tropical storm then it is not too bad for people..
The hydro is out all over the province but ours is doing ok so far..

This afternoon Terry and I went for a little drive just to see how the Bay of Fundy was doing..
The waves were wonderful although I have seen them much higher..
We even went over to Lighthouse Road as the waves are more awesome there..
On the way over Terry informed me that we were supposed to stay off the roads but I hadn't known that..

There were several trees down and my friend lost 2 of hers..
We have one huge elm tree on our lot and it is right over our bedroom..
Terry thinks I am silly but I plan on sleeping in our grandson's club room if this wind is not down by the time we go to bed..
I love the wind but not when I am under a tree.. grin.
Several years ago here a huge tree fell on my VW but didn't do any damage..
They were calling it the Miracle on Beach Street... lol..

Anyway...
Over on Light House Road the daisies were everywhere and as I was soaked to the skin anyway with my picture taking I decided to gather a few and put them on the dining room table..
I love daisies.. They are just so country.. eh?

I made muffins today, also..
Bran muffins..

We have been home a couple of times last week but I will post on that later..

This storm reminds me of one of my favorite songs..
HE'S IN OUR MIDST...
Just click HERE..
It will bless your heart..

No matter who we are we all go through storms in our lives..
Even when we know Jesus as our Savior life still happens to us..
The difference between knowing Christ and not knowing Him is that when the hard times come we have a refuge..
He is there beside us during the storm and he comforts us and lightens our heavy load..
We don't need to visit him or call him up He is there beside us at all times..

I find Him precious...

Well this is it for tonight dear hearts..
Thanks so much for your visits and comments and even your phone calls..
So sweet..

Hope where ever you are you and your families are safe..
Take care and may the Lord bless and keep you..

It was a good day...

Yesterday was Canada Day and I hope you all had a blessed one..
We had a really good one..

I opened the shop for several hours but earlier we had received a phone call from our youngest son..
They decided to come down to the Bay and celebrate his birthday with us..
When they called about the time they were halfway here I
closed the shop an hour early and hurried back to the cottage to thraw out some BBQ food... smile..

Dustin is our youngest by quite a few years..
His brother and sister were 12 and 13 when he arrived so the poor kid kind of had 2 sets of parents.. grin..
We all so enjoyed having that dear baby in our family and of course over the years he was no doubt a bit spoiled ... smile..

But today he is a parent and a great Dad to 2 wee boys..
We were so glad to see them all..

The oldest one is having a great time with a mask that he found upstairs in the Cousin's Clubhouse..
The wonderful Abe Lincoln..
He even received a history lesson and I was quite impressed in how well he understood it all..
When I was finished he told me..
Well, he accomplished his mission anyway, Grandma... grin..
Kids are so smart these days, eh?

Later, we were all walking down to the beach and he had it on but I had forgotten..
A couple of teenagers we knew were biking towards us and they were grinning.. I thought they were just being friendly but then later I realized he was out in front with that thing on..
No wonder they were grinning..

Sometimes I think parents (and we were also guilty) of buying high priced toys when sometimes they get more enjoyment and learning experiences from something like a dollar store mask.. ???
Maybe... smile..

Dustin wanted to know what we were having for Supper..
I told him BBQ hot dogs and hamburgers..
Excellent!!
It seems that this is an awesome supper in the Summer time..
Terry did put on a few kebabs, though and of course a Caesar Salad and baked potatoes are always delicious..
In the morning when I knew they were coming I had Terry rush up to the store and buy a cake mix..
I know..
I never use cake mixes but I was in a hurry ...
I baked the cake before I left and was certain I had icing sugar in a can in the pantry..
When I came home I looked in vain for it and then figured out that it was in the cupboard in a can at the farm...
Oh Brother...
But I had brown sugar and made this old standby..
BROWN SUGAR ICING

1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. cream or evaporated milk
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine brown sugar, white sugar, cream and butter. Boil for 2 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat add baking powder and vanilla. Beat to spreading consistency - spread on cake.

Then we all walked down to the beach again and watched the kids and dogs play in the water..

Did you know this is an edible plant?
I bought a book from Chapters about edible wild plants here in Maritime Canada and you can eat the little peas on this one..

Anyway..
The fog started coming in over the Bay and the kids had to be in Moncton for the fireworks...

So...
All in all it was a wonderful day..

We miss our boys when we are here and we miss our daughter when we are home but are so thankful for the time we get to spend with all of them..
Shonda and her family are vacationing in Florida.. again..
I ask ..
What is wrong with P. E. I..... grin..
one of my favorite places in the whole world...

Thanks so much for visiting and it is so great to meet so many of you who follow the blog and come to the shop,,
You guys are great and I appreciate you..
It is so nice to know you are all out there..

Praying that God will bless you all with a wonderful Summer Season with your families and friends..

This Week in my old cottage kitchen... .

Hello everyone..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth today..
I am once again joining Heather for her BLOG HOP...

As you can see by the pics on my blog header we are at our old Summer cottage here by the Bay of Fundy..
It is an old house but just our cottage so we have not changed it much..
No dishwasher here or fancy equipment... smile..
Very basic and plain but I do enjoy cooking in it most days..

This week has been hectic as I have been up to my little shop and getting it ready to open by Saturday which is our Canada Day long weekend..
So the food has not been very inspired...
But here goes.. smile..
Cucumber Salad..
Just slice some cukes and green onions..
Add salt and red pepper flakes and let sit for a few minutes..
Then add a dressing of 1/3 cup of mayo, 1/4 cup of sour cream, 1 T. lemon juice and chopped herbs if you like..
Stir to cover the cukes and serve room temp...
You can just add mayo or sour cream if you like or adjust the measures to your taste..

Simple bowl meals..
Homemade Mac and Cheese..

Poor hubby was starving one night and needed potatoes.. grin..
Fresh green beans, potatoes, cuke salad and pork steak and sauce..

Adding shrimp to a salad..

Farm fresh eggs...

The old kitchen here ..
There is a pantry behind the door...

Summer water...

Tuna pasta salad with Chicken Kebabs on the BBQ..
Kind of burned mine.. smile..

Chopped veggies and olives...

Quinoa Salad... again...

My mint pot..

Had a little birthday party with the most delicious marble cake..

Well, that is it for the kitchen this week..
Once I get the shop opened I will hopefully get a bit more organized..

So go over to BEAUTY THAT MOVES.. and join the fun of peeping in everyone's kitchen..
You will love it..

Take care everyone and God bless...

Celebrating at the Cottage...

Good Morning everyone..
Just a quick post to keep in touch with you all..
We are beginning to settle down here at the cottage although this will be a busy week..
We need to go home to get some more stuff as I am planning on opening my shop this weekend...
But this past week was fun..
Sitting on the stoop in the evenings if it was not raining.. smile..

Drinking Summer Water and reading this and that..

Trying to get the old place back in order during the days...

Expecting some company so picked a few forget me nots...
All of my tablecloths are home so I need to remember to bring them down..
I really am not a tablecloth person but this old table need refinished, I am thinking.. smile..
A good Summer job for my grandsons, perhaps??? smile..

We were having a wee birthday celebration...

Expecting a few dear old friends ...
And a cake with a few candles, shall we say.. grin..

A trip up the street to a beautiful old country inn here in St. Martins..

As you can see the view is spectacular!!

Clear to the beautiful Bay of Fundy..
We had a beautiful luncheon...
Lobster rolls, Seafood Chowder, Potato Salad, Soup of the Day and Beef Sandwiches and Dip made by the owner and chef himself...

Then they took us on a tour of the inn..

This dear little rocker actually belonged to the sweet old lady who used to live here in our own cottage..
Mrs. Hopey..
I had to take a pic of it...

And then I noticed this pillow that was bought in my little shop..

A lovely Victorian home turned into a Bed and Breakfast that used to belong to sea captain here in St. Martins many years ago..
The St. Martins Country Inn..

Then back we came for some tea and birthday cake..

Judy and I have been friends since I was twelve years old..
A long long time.. grin..
Love this dear lady..
Hope you had a great day, Judy...
And hope you all had a great week, too..
Thanks for dropping by and for your lovely comments and your emails..
God bless..
Hugs...
