The days in between....

Hello dear hearts..
Just checking in with you all during these in between days of Christmas and New Years..

Hope you are all enjoying this holiday week..
I was telling someone that Terry and I kind of feel in limbo waiting until Saturday when all of the family arrive to celebrate..
Can't wait..

So..
I have been doing a little preparing..
Getting out some old serving dishes..
Planning on how to sit 17 people and which dishes to use and  napkins and such...

And what about the menu..
I hope I have it fixed as we went shopping today and I doubt Terry would be very thrilled if he needed to go again.. grin..

Tonight we are in the midst of a huge storm..
On our way home it started and in just a half hour the roads were slippery..
There is a wind whistling and snow is pelting down..
Sometimes it is almost like sleet..
It should be over tomorrow sometime, though..

Dear hubby bought us a treat for our supper tonight..
Two lovely lobsters..
A favorite of ours..

I just couldn't imagine throwing those lovely shells out..
I found a recipe on the web for lobster broth and it is simmering away out there in the kitchen..

It can be used for
a soup base or even a lobster risotto or just a nice hot cup of broth on a cold day..

I think I will make a seafood chowder and use it as the base.

Shonda and her family are planning on coming and staying overnight tomorrow and as they are going skiing before they get here it should help warm them up... eh?

I need to do a couple of preparations for the storm before I go to bed..
Filling my washer with water and making a big thermos of coffee just in case the hydro goes off...

Wondering what you are all doing these days..

Well, must go sweet ladies..
Hope you are keeping nice and warm where ever you are..
Thanks so much for stopping by.. I am so enjoying your lovely comments..
You guys are awesome..
God bless...

  1. Hi Faye, we're staying cozy inside while we get a doozy of a blizzard outside tonight. It's snowing and blowing quite a storm. I hope you and Terry had a lovely quiet Christmas. I know you will have a wonderful time with the whole family there on Saturday. It's always fun to have a full house. We went to my niece's in Sussex for our family gathering yesterday. Thankfully the roads were dry and we were surprised there was very little snow there compared to here. We had a wonderful time with 22 there. I like your table centerpiece in your dining room with the old top hat. Have a good evening my friend. Blessings, Pamela

  3. I sure hope you weather the storm all right, dear lady. Not much has been happening around here. I've had some bad sinus headaches, but they wain as the day progresses and then I can get busy with my day. God is so very good to us, I cannot complain. I'm so happy to pay a visit to your sweet blog.
    Love and hugs, Cindy

  6. You make me love all the dishes even more, all over again! I love the photos. Hope the family time goes so well, be blessed, indeed!

We have very cold temps, a few inches of snow lying on waiting on the next snowfall to come. It is supposed to start as rain tomorrow evening, then turn to snow again.

I have a simple stew simmering in the crock pot for tomorrow, the whole house smells of it already, and a new stack of books from the library. I had two lovely conversations with dear friends of mine. Each called to check on me, so nice to hear a sweet voice, and know someone cares for you!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  10. I LOVE the rose dishes. So pretty. I know you will think this so strange but I have never eaten lobster. I would love to try it sometime. Just never had the opportunity. Your cup of tea looks so inviting. Enjoy your day and God bless.

  11. Right now I am babysitting 3 of my grandchildren under the age of 5 so that our son and his wife could have an overnight getaway. Mass confusion and lots of noise! We have had 17 family members coming and going for the last 8 days and I am so, so tired. Most meals we have had 10 or more and I have been cooking, cooking, cooking! I am making an effort to enjoy it all even though we are used to just the two of us and lots of quiet. Today is the last day. Most of them leave tomorrow morning. We always take the whole crew out for breakfast on the last morning so that I can actually talk to them and enjoy them all before they go. Our middle son flies north to Boston today and we are praying for no delays for them from the same storm that has come your way. Enjoy your family when they come! Nothing like having them home at Christmas time!

  12. Hi Faye;

Did you cook your lobster? I am looking for a pot large enough to cook lobsters in and wonder what you used.

Your pictures are beautiful - as always!

    Love the snowman candle cozy.

  17. Oh, I do wish we'd see a little snow in SW Missouri. I felt a bit misled by the weatherman. On Christmas Eve morning, they said we had a 100% chance of snow by evening. They kept pushing it off a couple of hours at a time, and we never got any snow at all. ~pout~ ~smile~

I do hope your Shonda and her family can get to you safely.

Blessings to you from Harvest Lane Cottage,
    Laura

  21. Dear Faye...and another storm is upon us! I must confess to loving a huge storm, but it's easy for me to say because I'm not the one who has to do the clean up!

Enjoy your family and Happy New Year:)
