A bit of everyday things..

Hello my dears..
How are you all doing?

We woke up to more snow this morning..
It is not that we mind it you know ..
Really..
It is just when you think it is all over then it starts all over again..
 Oh well..
All good things come to him that waits..
(Or so I heard)  smile..

What did you do today?
I made this no knead molasses porridge bread..

Someone left a comment and asked if I ever make brown bread..
This is as close as it gets..

I will post the recipe at the end of this post.. OK?`

Terry loves brown bread but I don't like it at all..
Even homemade although he says this is good..

I made another coffee cozy..
My grandsons laugh because I tell them I can only crochet in circles..

Canadians love their Tim Horton's and this is an extra large.. smile..

Thinking of planting something in this lovely toile tin I found at the thrift store..

Or.. perhaps I should save it for the shop.. smile..

Look at my sprouts..

The bottle is over a litre and it is full today..
Do any of you do sprouts?
A lovely homemade bread and sprout sandwich coming up..

This is a gift from my Mom and Step-Father...

An antique tea pot and a new iron..
Love them..

And this is something I make when we have stale bread..

Bread Pudding with Raisins..
Do you make this recipe?

Oh this is a Canadian view point..

LOL..
It is so funny because it is almost true.. grin..

And my thoughts are turning more and more to this place..

The wonderful Bay of Fundy and our old cottage and shop ...
I need to start making stuff..
Next week for sure..

I have the list but have not made the gigantic stride to accomplish anything yet..
Soon...

I think I need to go down and look around and get over my procrastination..
Start on a panic and get some results..
Sad but true..
That is when I work best..
And you thought you knew me.. grin..

OK, dear hearts here is the recipe..

No Knead Molasses Porridge Bread..
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 cup of oats..
Stir and add..
1/2 cup of wheat germ
1/2 cup of molasses
1/4 cup of shortening
3/4 T. of salt..
Stir well and cool to lukewarm
In another small bowl add 1/2 cup of lukewarm water and 1/2 tsp. of sugar .. Sprinkle over 1 T. instant yeast.
Let stand about 10 minutes then add to the oats mixture..
Stir in 3 3/4 cups of flour.
*all purpose flour or half can be whole wheat
Then add 3/4 cup of lukewarm water..
Stir well and cover..
Let rise until doubled ..
Spoon into a greased loaf pan (large one) and let rise until it comes to the top of the pan..
Bake in 375 Degrees F. oven for 35 minutes or until done..
Take out and cool on a rack..
Oh.. this recipe can be doubled and you get 3 medium loaves.

Well, I guess that is all for tonight..
Thank you so much for your kind anniversary wishes and for your prayers ..
I still miss Sammi ...
That is to be expected, I guess..

Thank you for visiting and I always always look forward to your sweet comments...
Enjoyed talking to an old friend today who is so faithful reading but does not comment.. She just calls and tells me..
Thanks, Dawn..

I appreciate all of you..
For reading and for commenting...

Love and Prayers..
Faye..

    1. Question for you... Faye. Would you clarify the type of Molasses you use? There are all kinds..

I doubt you would use a blackstrap, right? What about a (Kings) table syrup? I was wondering if that would work...

    2. Hi Bevy.. I just use the common table molasses we use here call Cosbys..
I do not know Kings table syrup but I would definitely use honey if you don't have molasses .. It just would not be so brown.. Hope this helps.. F...

  5. Faye, your bread looks delicious. I'd love it with a little honey spread on it, and maybe a slice of ham and a slice of Brie....mmmmm. Have you ever baked with graham flour? I bought a bag of it but no recipe and I am not having luck finding one on the internet. xo

  6. Well Faye, the snow missed us and we got wet flurries and a bit of drizzle. Not bad but that old wind sure was cold! I love the photo of the deer. We had over a dozen in the field behind our house tonight. The snow is slowly melting away so they can eat the stubble from last year's crop and I have seen them pawing the snow with their hooves to get at it too. Your bread looks delicious! Hugs, Pamela

  7. Faye :-) your recipe looks inviting by the photo... HI Terry, I'm with you :-)
Faye can you please do an English version of your recipe :-) :-) In English please :-) :-) :-)
We have snow too by the way. Almost April in this part of the world and strange to see snow....
Hope your taking your camera to your shop... it's the only way I get to window shop :-)

  9. Hi Faye;

I, too, am like you "Start on a panic and get some results." The only thing is, I don't really like being that way, but when I try to start earlier to avoid the panic, I also avoid the inspiration....

  10. 1. I sent the deer pic to my kids in USA: Missouri and Wisconsin. (Missouri got 13 inches the other day!)

    2. My MIL makes Bread Pudding for her middle baby boy (my Dave) when we go home to Connecticut. I have a fabulous Bread Pudding bowl she bought me (Pfalzgraf; only $2!), I don't think I've ever used it!

I chuckled about your friend Dawn. That's sweet that she calls!

    Happy Resurrection Day weekend, folks!

  11. Good morning Faye,
What a fun post...I like these kind -you get lots of different thoughts running through your head...and ideas too.
Snow is such a bad word here...I just hope it's over for us.

I grew up eating brown bread although I do think its different than what you were talking about.
Ours was very brown, heavy, artisans and I do think lots of dark molasses. But we loved it.

  12. What kind of seeds do you use for your sprouts? They look yummy. I haven't eaten them in a while but remember that they were part of my favorite sandwiches a 'few' years ago. We are expecting more snow today, too. I am about done with it. I have garden fever.

As always, I love your pictures. The cozy is too cute! How do you make sprouts? I love them on a tuna sandwich.

    Blessings,

    2. Faye, I tried your bread recipe in the form of rolls. They were a huge hit. This recipe tops ANY I have tried before. Thank you! My husband said he knew they would come out perfectly, because all Canadian women know how to cook better than anyone. LOL!
      Blessings,
      Julie

  14. The bread sounds yummy! I too am like you. I work better under pressure. There are times however when I like to be extra prepared and get things done but those times are rare. Ha! We are supposed to have warmer temps here this weekend. Yahoo!!! Hope you have a great day! HUGS

  16. Are you sure Spring is on the way, those deer are up to their necks in snow, more like the middle of winter. Beautiful photo's. After looking at all that lovely home made bread, I feel hungary, so, I'm off to make a cup of tea, without that lovely bread or pudding. Thank you for the recipe.

  17. Your coffee cup cozy is really cute! I think it turned out great. The bread looks yummy, too. Seems like people prefer either white or brown bread, but I like them both, depending on my mood and what I'm eating it with :)

  18. Faye,
Oh my goodness, bread pudding and raisins - I haven't had that in a long time, so yummy. I LOVE this toile tin. It looks a bit antique. And the picture of the deers made me smile. You are always making something wonderful to eat in the kitchen.

    Happy Easter to you, Faye.

  19. What a lovely post, full of all kinds of surprises. I kept scrolling and was so delighted. Happy anniversary by the way. Wish today's young folks would be able to experience marriage beyond 5 years. They are missing one of life's great blessings aren't they. My honey and I will celebrate 20 this year and it feels like it has been only two. Blessings Faye
