Days of our lives..

Good Evening, my dears..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..

We are all well and like everyone else in this world; we are a tad busy..

Last week I had hoped to get all of my canning and preserving finally finished..
I canned jars and jars of pears and carrots and such...

Then today my sweet hubby bought 20 more pounds of beets..
We opened the jar that I made from a recipe from my UK friend and found them delicious..
So..
I guess we will be doing a few more.. smile..

Had a lovely cup of carrot and ginger soup for lunch one day but you guessed it..
Hubby did not want any..
Only ordinary soups for him..

There seems to be so much to forage for this time of year..

Rose hips again..
There is just so much to do with them..
I actually wanted these ones to put in the dehydrator and for a wreath I was making..

We were also blessed with some sweet company..

Someone had a birthday..
He received a Grandpa toy...
That means he gets to leave it at our house and then they can play with Grandpa when they visit.. smile..

One of Mickey's favorites is a Caesar Salad..
Love my Salad Greens Dryer bag...

I finally got to my Hydrangea Wreath that I had been wanting to make..

I added rose hips and they will dry on the wreath..

I noticed it is not sitting straight on the chair but it did turn out right..smile..

Such an easy and rewarding craft to make and will literally last for years..
I made the wreath from some grapevines someone snipped from their vines and wired it together to make an oval..
Then just glued on sections of flowers and rose hips with a glue gun..
Easy..

Anyway..
Terry picked some High bush Cranberries, too..
For my friend, Cheryl who reads the blog...the cranberries are ready to pick...
I am a bit late but there are still lots and I guess you can pick them all Winter..
We freeze them and make a lovely juice from one year to the next..

Even decorated the Supper table with them..

Trevor found the old bottle on the shore of the Belleisle Bay..
Notice the lovely beet pickles..

Love the old plates that I picked up at a thrift store a couple of years ago..

Do you ladies love old dishes?

Well, this seems to be a long post..
Sorry about that..

Probably you have all hung up on me by now but I had a phone call today from one of my favorite wee blog followers who thinks I do not post often enough and can't imagine why I would only write one line.. (Last post) smile..
I think he misses seeing his pic on here, too..
So..
I have included another one.. grin..
His Dad sent it to me by email..

It was titled..
Want to be like Gramps..
How cute is that?
Mustaches... yeah!!

Perhaps, I shouldn't say this but if they turn out like their
Grandpa they will be wonderful men and their families will be blessed..
They may drive their wives and kids crazy sometimes but they will always know that they are loved..
They will also have their priorities in line..
Putting God and family above their own pursuits and no matter when they are needed they will be available..
Honest, faithful and hard working..

Just saying... smile..

Well, thank you dear hearts for listening to me one more time..
And Rafe I will try to do a better job and post more often..
Ok..
Grandma loves you..

God bless you all and I look forward to hearing from you ..
Oh and welcome to the new followers ..
I hope I can bless your life in some way..

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers..

Better late than never....

Good Evening dear hearts..
So glad you dropped by tonight..

Another Monday has come and almost gone ..

One our darling grandsons turned 13 today...
Happy Birthday, Carter...

I have decided that since it is October 1st then I must like everyone else welcome in Fall...

Better late than never...
 Right?...

I guess Fall does have rather a lot going for it even if Winter is right behind there waiting to take over the scene..

I love the wonderful colors and Harvest veggies..

One of my new faves are the organic garlic..
I can't believe how long I used the other pathetic stuff that is available here in the supermarkets..

I pick up three or four each time we go to the city..
I have a pot full now.. grin..
I believe they will keep all Winter..

And then there are all the wonderful flowers you can dry..

I like sticking them here and there..
My hydrangea are ready to pick as soon as it quits raining..
We have been blessed with several rainy days here..

Today I froze a big batch of beets..
We love them in the winter as a side dish or as a salad..

I just boil them until tender and then clean and slice..
Pack in freezer containers..
They are lovely...
We like them heated with a bit of butter and vinegar..

Terry picked these last roses for me...

Along with a bag of rose petals which I will be adding to some vinegar to make Rose Vinegar.

Lindsay and I learned how to do that at Kings Landing along with a recipe to make a nice vinaigrette..

Spent some time chopping up a bunch of tomatoes today, too...

Along with some onions, cilantro, hot peppers and limes...

Ended up with 3 lovely bottles of fresh salsa..

This is our famous Maritime chef's recipe...
You can find it HERE...

I have a bottle for Mom, one for us and  one for Thanksgiving this weekend..
We celebrate it early here in Canada...

My sweet friend, Janelle gave me this great gift...

It is a cast iron tea pot with a tea infuser ...
I am enjoying it so much..
That girl always knows what I love.. smile..

Well, there is this the last piece of apple pie...

Would you share it with you know who?
I know...
He deserves it for putting up with me..grin..
And he did bring me those roses.. smile..

Thank you so much for dropping by sweet ladies..
I so love having you as I keep saying...

I am looking forward to reading your little notes..
I did reply to each one last time ...
And I do read each one ...

I remarked to my friend Caroline that I did not expect that she would read each comment, too..
But I do..
Do you girls read the comments, too?
Just wondering...

Take care and enjoy your week...

Loving the faithfulness of the Lord tonight...

Hugs...

Some Fall Chores....

Hello everyone..
How are you all doing?
It has been another busy week here .. It takes a bit of time to get ready for Winter, eh?
Terry has finished doing our wood.. It is now in our basement along with lots of cedar for kindling.. He is always happy when that chore is done and me, too.. smile..
We also now have everything home from the cottage and I think most of it is put away..
We had to clean our cold room.. A chore that we neither one like doing but are always so glad when it is all done.. It is so nice to see all the preserves on the shelves..
We also have our sauerkraut and veggies put away .. I still have to do more pumpkin... I like freezing some and probably one more batch of jam..
Our squash did not do well this year so we bought a fifty pound bag and Terry peeled it  and then I cooked it and put it in the freezer.. We find squash does not keep well so we freeze it.. It is so convenient that way...

I am also putting blankets and bedding out on the line..
Sorting through the linen cupboards..

Of course, I take a break now and then... grin..
And sometimes when I do I try to find inspiration in such magazines as these ones...

A couple of my faves...
I love UK publications.. Do you?
And Mary Jane is one of the best..
Filled to the brim with lovely homemaking ideas..

We also put away a supply of beef..
I love making this with some ground beef...
Tiny meatballs to put into this lovely soup...

Italian Wedding Soup.... I posted the recipe HERE..

Also.. we received some lovely organic chickens..
We get them in exchange for our hay...

Today I put a Rub on one...

And then I put it in a bag and placed in the fridge until tomorrow when I will roast it for Supper..
This is a lovely recipe..
Guess where I found it?   smile..
In this little book..

Here is the recipe just in case you would like it...
Chicken Rub..
3 tsp. sea salt
3 T. paprika
1 tsp. cayenne
1/2 tsp garlic powder or 1 clove garlic crushed
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. hot pepper flakes
1/2 tsp. black pepper..
Whisk together in a small bowl and the rub all over a washed and dried chicken.  Put in a large Ziploc bag and place in fridge overnight.  Or you can freeze it this way..
Roast in oven as usual ...
Baste every 30 minutes..
Looks and tastes like BBQ chicken.. Heavenly..

I have been getting ready for Keepers of the Home meeting on Saturday morning, also..
We are planning on having breakfast, a lesson on the Home and then doing a felting project plus learning a few other little things..

It is held in Sussex...

I will be looking forward to hearing from you..

Take care of your dear families and enjoy the wonderful Fall season  that our Lord has blessed us with..Winter is on its way...
