God Bless Our Irish Home..

Good Evening to you my lovelies...
Just wanted to share a post with you of our little Irish celebration..

My husband is a Scott and so am I but there is a wee bit of the Irish in my bloodline which I am always happy to announce to the world.. grin..
So with that being said...

Today being St. Patrick's Day was a sweet opportunity for Terry and I to have a special little dinner..
It was not a lot of work but a bit of fun to find some green dishes and such..

I am blessed to have a collection of Beeleek pottery which was made in Ireland.. I love every little piece.. Most of it was given to me from my husband's dear cousin, Marilyn and then Shonda gave us a lovely piece for our 40th anniversary..
I was happy to use a few pieces for dinner..
You will notice they have little shamrocks on their edges..

Then to find some green place mats, sheep napkin holders from my friend, Judy and such..
Green is one of my favorite colors so it was not hard to find a few things to decorate the table with.

Marilyn also gave me some little Irish ornaments as she knows how I love  the Irish.. smile..
I think it is important to take the time and make the effort to have little special occasions where we can celebrate, don't you?

That is what home is all about..
Celebrating the life that Jesus has blessed us with..

The times we can spend together and the memories we make are precious and worth a wee bit of effort..
In the big ways and the small ones.. eh?

St. Patrick was responsible for taking Christ to England from Ireland when Christianity was failing..
We have been studying church history at our Bible Study and studied about him last week..
It has been a very enlightening topic and so blessed to be a part of this Bible Study..

Anyway.. back to our dinner..
I made a little Soda Bread which was just big enough for two..
Along with some home made Blackberry Jelly ..
We actually had some left over for breakfast .. smile..
And a Colcannon Soup which was delicious..
I asked Terry if he liked it and he said what was there not to like..
Cabbage, potatoes and milk. grin..
(it was much more then that..grin)

I was talking to a dear friend this morning who is a faithful reader of the blog and I was saying what a wonderful motivation this blog is..
Because I want to put something on here to interest you it motivates me to put out a bit of extra effort and Terry and I both benefit from it..
He never complains about the time or effort I put into my blog and is always so helpful to me..
He waits for his soup while I get the perfect picture and pays for that old dish which is esactly right for a table setting..
He takes me for long drives and stops for pics and gets in ditches to pick me flowers and such.. grin..

Notice that picture above where he is sitting there patiently waiting for me to take a picture..
See that dear old hand there ..
Well, that hand has held mine for almost 45 years of marriage next week..
Imagine!!
I couldn't have found a dearer hand to hold..
Thank you, Lord..

God bless you sweet friends..
Thanks again for stopping by..
Hugs..

Celebration Dinner...

Hello everyone..
Hope you are all doing well...

Just wanted to post some pics of our 44th Wedding Anniversary dinner as requested.. smile..
The first photo is what it looked like here in Maritime Canada on our anniversary day..
These are the pics of the table..

Do you like the candle holders?
I bought these in Pa. a couple of years ago to sell in the shop.
Someone came in and bought quite a few and told me that this is what she planned to do with them..
Needless to say I saved the rest for home here..
For a little centrepiece I took an old milk pitcher and put in a stem of hydrangea and put a little pip berry wreath on top..

We had a Caesar Salad first with homemade dressing...
1/2 cup of mayo
1/4 cup of milk
1/4 cup of Parmesan
1/2 - 1 tsp. anchovy paste
1 clove of garlic, chopped and smashed
squeeze of lemon
pinch of red pepper flakes (opt.)
salt and pepper to taste
Whisk together well and let sit for flavors to blend for a bit..
This is just a top of the head recipe I use..
You may want to add more or less of some of the ingredients..

And then we had Seafood Pasta for the main dish..
I had thought we would have some garlic bread but decided we didn't need it..
I made a dessert but we passed on that, too..
Our drink was Mountain Dew.. smile..
Next week we hope to go to a special place for our Celebration Dinner..

Well, girls that is all for tonight..
We had Keepers of the Home today so I will try and post about it at the first of the week..
It was a great day..

Thanks so much for all of your kind wishes ..
We appreciate them so much..
There was even a special phone call from our sweet friends the Mayo Family in Wisconsin..
Their blog is HERE..
Thanks so much for calling, Lori..
It made my day..

Tomorrow is the Lord's Day and we are having potluck after church so I need to go and make a dish..
They are calling for bad weather once again so we are praying that it will hold off..

Take care, dear hearts...

Saturday night dinner...

Hello my dears..
Here it is Saturday evening again..

I wanted to thank all of you dear girls for signing up for my little giveaway.. Click HERE to sign up if you would like to..

Anyway, tonight I am making a special dinner for Terry and I..

I thought I would share the table setting with you..

You probably saw these dishes before when I did a guest posting for Like a Bubbling Brook.  They are a thrift store find..

We have a little bouquet that is our very first flowers to bloom..
They come early every year and my Mom calls them Heather..
I don't know what the correct name is.. smile..

They are pretty, though and so Spring like..
The colors are lovely, eh?

We are having Ham slices baked in milk and brown sugar, mashed potatoes, sauteed green peas and onions, salad and such for dinner.

Just an old fashioned meal..

I remember the first meal that I made for Terry 42 years ago..
Potato Scallop, sausages, peas and chocolate cake..
I loved to cook even at the beginning of our marriage and thought he would love the meal.

I did not know that the temperature of the oven was way off and the cake fell and the scallop was rather crisp.. grin..

He still liked it, though...
And he fixed the stove.. smile..

And a bit of candle light..
The candle is one that I modge podged a toile napkin on..

That posting is on HERE for the how to..

Well, dear ladies... He will soon be in .. With this lovely weather it is hard to get him in before 7 o'clock at least..
He has so much to do outside this time of year..
Although, it is much sooner than usual..

Thank you all so much for your sweet visit and welcome to all the new followers.  I look forward to hearing from you all..

Tomorrow is the Lord's Day..smile..
Have a blessed one..
Hugs..

Thanksgiving at the Olde Cottage....

Hello everyone..
Happy Thanksgiving, too... At least here in Canada.. smile...
I am afraid I have been missing a bit on the blogging side of things.. Sorry about that.. Kind of a lot of things going on last week..
And then we went to St. Martins to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family... There were 17 of us and we had a nice day...

It was very informal but the weather was gorgeous... We did not even need sweaters.... Thank you, Lord..
Terry set up another wee table and with the kitchen one we could all sit at the same time, which was nice...
As I said it was just a cottage Thanksgiving and our first one there in 16 years..So it was a nice change, I think...
Our grandsons were able to go to the beach and enjoy their clubhouse...
Our oven was not working so the turkey was brought in all cooked, gravy and all.. grin..
The slow cooker cooked the ham, though and along with lots of veggies and salads and desserts it was lovely..
How was your Thanksgiving?  I know the USA is not until later, though...
Terry and I had a vacation day yesterday and took a day trip...
Everyone was telling me how tired I looked so my husband decided to treat me..We just went across the border... It was nice..
But...
We had a flat tire on the way home and no flash light... Thank the Lord for cell phones.. smile... The back of the VW was loaded with stuff like 2 frozen turkeys and 2 huge bags of frozen stuff from our freezer at the cottage... Oh  dear...
We had to unload all of that and the dear man had to get out the tire and put it on in the pitch dark... God is so good,  though and the phone shone enough light that he did get the other one on..
Home never felt so good when we finally arrived here... smile..

Today I made a soup with the left over Thanksgiving ham..
It tasted really good and so easy to do..
Just add some chicken broth and water to the bones and simmer for a bit.. Then add the leftover meat, onions, celery, carrots, potatoes and seasonings...
I added 2 bay leaves, 6 cloves, 2 tsp. herbes de provence and salt and pepper..
Nice tasty lunch...
Well, my dears I only meant to say a few words but as usual I ramble on.... Sorry, about that..
Hope you all had a wonderful blessed Thanksgiving..
Peace to you all...
