9.. Fresh chive blossoms for homemade vinegar..
just stuff a sterile bottle full of washed blossoms and cover with a white vinegar.. let it sit for several weeks then strain.. 
you will have a lovely pink delicious vinegar..

Each day I find myself snapping a picture or two in the kitchen - a pile of ingredients, a table waiting for us to gather around, a sink full of soapy dishes, a cup of tea, dinner as it comes out of the oven - simple, everyday moments in the kitchen. These photos serve as a reminder of days gone by and as encouragement to carry on in this busy kitchen of ours when inspiration is lacking.

  1. Good evening, dear Faye...my, you've been a busy girl! I just love the idea of the chive vinegar...do you just use the blossoms? I'll definitely have to try this! My chives haven't blossomed yet here in Maine...but it won't be long!

    1. Hi Laura.. Thanks for dropping by.. Yes the vinegar only uses the blossoms which turn it a lovely pink shade.. This is my favorite vinegar.. xo

    2. Thank you, Faye...I can't wait to try it. By the way, I love your header photo...lupine are one of my favorite flowers. They are just starting to blossom here in midcoast Maine...we mostly have the purple, pink and white variety...sweet blessings!

  2. The Geranium in the top picture is so pretty, Faye. I always look forward to your kitchen pictures! You make such yummy looking foods. We have some chives...think I am going to give your idea for chives vinegar a try. :)

    1. Thank you, Dianna.. We are praying for the fallen Mounties and their families.. We live near Moncton but my Mom lives in the lock up area where they are looking for the man.. Sad days..

  4. You know how I have always admired the fact that you make the violet salve and the lotion! (Remember I love violets because my Grandma's name was Violet.) But wish I could buy some from you. I love your kitchen pictures. Your are a Cook!...a real COOK! Everything looks so delicious. I love the brass teakettle on the kitchen table with the geranium....so pretty. Love reading your posts, as you know.

  7. I love it over here and poll through the photos slowly to absorb all the goodness. I too have thinking of your part of the world when I heard the awful news. Wondering how close you are to the shootings and if you have to stay inside. I've just noticed the comments about your mother and hope she stays safe and sound.

    1. Hi Mary.. You just put washed chive blossoms into a bottle and cover with a white vinegar and let it sit for a couple of weeks .. Strain it through some cheesecloth and there you have it. A beautiful pink tasty vinegar.. xo

    1. Okay, I am so excited you posted the vinegar! I went out in my garden (we just moved in December so I'm finding all sorts of hidden treasures). The previous pastor wife had chives out there and they had the blossoms on the top! So my blossoms are now sitting in vinegar. I would have had no idea what they were if you hadn't posted this. Yay!!!!
