A little Summer ramble and roll...

Hello there..
Hope everyone is fine and doing well...

Summer is having her last fling here in the Maritimes of Canada and what a beautiful day we had today...
Just perfect weather..
Not too hot or cool but Fall is certainly on it's way..

I love the Spring but find the Fall has a very creative influence on me.. I just want to be making and doing.. smile..

Here in St. Martins the village built benches for folks to sit on during the Summer and on each side is an edible garden..
They are lovely and across the street from our cottage is the one with Nasturtium flowers, herbs, tomatoes, blueberries, kale, beans and peas and such..
You are invited to pick a veggie, herb or whatever as long as you leave some for others..
I picked 10 blossoms and made a vinegar..
I make several different kinds each Fall to carry me through the Winter for salads and greens and such..
Nasturtium Vinegar tastes kind of peppery and is delicious..
Very easy to make as you just place them in a jar and cover with white vinegar for a couple of weeks..
Strain through a cheesecloth and use..
It turns a most beautiful orange shade in a couple of days..

Anyway...
I am getting ready to close my shop..
This weekend will probably wrap it up and I am happy about that..
We still had stuff in the barn from when I first started out and took a huge load over today..
Tomorrow I hope to go over and sort through all the boxes and place it about and price it..
Everything is almost all 50 percent off and has been moving along very well..

I have been pickling a bit and today I finished up my Pumpkin Flavors Potpourri...

It is very pretty and smells nice and spicy..

I have also been trying to enjoy my last days by the Sea..
I miss the Bay of Fundy so much when we go home,,
It is a part of me even though I do look forward to going home and getting things back to normal..

It has been a wonderful Summer with our grandsons visiting quite a bit and other lovely company..

Last night I woke up very dizzy and did not have a good rest at all..
This morning I just sat on the stoop in my flannel pj's and housecoat and slept in the breeze..
So lovely...

On Sunday we had a nice day with our daughter as it was likely the last Sunday we will attend church with her and her family this Summer..
We spent the afternoon at her house and had a wonderful dinner..
Then sat outside and watched the sailboats on the river..

And then back to another wonderful service..

Our four older grandsons head to Montreal this weekend for a missions trip..
I pray God will bless and protect them..
School starts next week..

Oh my... where has the Summer gone?  smile..

Well, dear hearts this has been nothing but a ramble and roll and once again I am falling short..

Take care and if you are in the area on the weekend drop by the House of Henry...

God bless..

Ending the Week..

Happy Friday Evening, everyone..

Here we are at the end of another Summer's week..

Terry and I have been busy pickling as you can see..
He brought down sixty pounds of cukes and they are finished and some are sold already..

I had fun making a new kind in the first picture..
A dear wee friend here in St. Martins grows grapes and let me have some grape leaves and another grows horseradish and gave me a few roots so I made a Deli pickles that I have wanted to try for literally years..
They look delicious and can't wait to try them..
It takes a few weeks though before they are ready..

Then we made Sweet Dill, Garlic Dill, Bread and Butter and Ginger Slices...
Hopefully, we will get more done next week..

It is also herb time and so I made a Nasturtium Vinegar.. Isn't it pretty?
It is a bit peppery, too..
Just use a good vinegar and throw in some nasturtium blossoms and a bit of hot pepper flakes..
Leave on your sill for a week or two..

The Rosemary Salt is just a jar of coarse salt with Rosemary added to the sides and throughout..
Delicious with Chicken or such..

I made some foot powders to sell at the shop..
Lavender and Peppermint..
Keeps the feet smelling sweet.. grin..

We were out to Shonda and Dave's for a lovely meal..
This view was from one of her windows..
Serene, eh?

New veggies and some lovely salmon fillet...
Her Dad's favorite.. smile..

Our grandsons do not like me putting their pics on here and usually I try not to but just look at how they are growing..
They are all turning into young men.. Already...
Where has the time gone?

I will share pics with you of her new home as soon as she gets it all organized..
A lot of window coverings to figure out.. smile..

Here is a new item added to the shelves at the shop...

Lots of enamelware..
Some of it has sold this week but it is very pretty..

Today, I realized that Summer is really drawing to an end..

My sweet cousin Dan and his family came to say good bye as they close down their Summer home and head back to Montreal for another year of teaching at the University..

I so love this sweet family and could not help but shed a tear as they pulled away...

This Summer has slipped through the cracks and is almost over..
Another Summer of memories and sweet reunions..

But you all know how I love to get back home..

I just told a friend that I am not going to whine about getting back home this year..
But just another two weeks and we will be done..

Well dearies, thanks so much for your visit and comments..
Love them all and hope you have a great weekend..

Nighty night, sweet friends..

Beach Thyme..

Good Evening everyone..
What a lovely day here in New Brunswick..
Nice and warm but with a fresh breeze off of the Bay made for a delightful day..

We had some precious company over the last two days..
Yesterday our youngest son and family came and stayed overnite..

Such welcome visitors to our little shop and then it was just so hot and no one was dropping by that I put the closed sign up and headed to the beach with the rest of them..

Everyone had a blast and enjoyed our cold water..
The Bay of Fundy is famous for it's low temps but they all adjusted very well and so enjoyed their yacht.. grin..

Gramps held a long rope with the dogs and it kept me laughing just watching him..

Then this morning our oldest son and family came down and stopped by the shop and signed the guest book..
After awhile I closed up again and came home and had a wonderful BBQ dinner that they brought..

They certainly started our week off great..
I find it hard to sit at the shop when my family are here so as it is just a summer job I try to enjoy a day here and there..

That is why my hours are ..
Open by chance or appointment..
smile..

I hope everyone understands and will let me know if I can open for them.. I don't mind at all..

Next week is Old Home Week and I hope to be open from 10-5 each day..
We have a bunch of old furniture that we are putting in the new room even though it is not crack filled..
Hopefully, I can cover some of it and we will finish the room when we can..

Just so much to do here and so little time to do it, eh?
Grin..

Tonight after they had all left we sat on the deck and ate pasta..
The wind was blowing and it was beautiful but I miss my kids..
They will be back soon, though, I hope..

Thanks for your sweet visit and hope to hear from you all..
Enjoy your Summer and God bless..

Thanks to you who liked the House of Henry on Face book..
Blessings..

Here in St. Martins..

Good Evening..
Hope you are all having a blessed weekend..
Tomorrow is Canada Day and also a special one for our family..
Our youngest was born 30 years ago on July 1st..
The dear lad keeps saying he is only 26 but not so.. grin..
Happy Birthday, dear son..
You are a blessing in our lives..
This was a pic they sent me from their phone when they were in Quebec City having a blast.. smile..

The shop is now open..
Thank you, dear Lord and you for your prayers..
I have included a few pics of my new work space which I love and know I will enjoy..
My hubby rocks.. grin..
Along with everything we have been wave chasing the last few days..
The rain is quite something but it brings wonderful waves which we love..
I tried to include a small video so you could see and hear just a smidgen but it did not work out..
Anyway, dear hearts this is just a wee post..
We will soon be normal..
Once I get the cottage sorted then I can enjoy the rest of the Summer..
Rain or Shine..
Take care of yourselves and may God bless you all..
Thanks so much for your visits and notes..
Love and Prayers

A Winter's Field Trip for you...

Hello everyone..
So glad you dropped by the Blessed Hearth..
This morning Terry and I decided quite spontaneously that we would take a wee trip down to St. Martins to check on the old cottage and the shop..
So..
I made up a few buns and some coffee and away we went..
We drove about 2 hours to get there..
Past frozen over mountain lake and snow filled forests and rivers..
Then there is the wee rose colored shop..
The House of Henry..

And then here is the old cottage..
Sitting and waiting for warmer days and the sounds of laughter and running feet up and down the stairs..

We went in and checked it over and I was happy to see the old elm tree still standing.. (the one that is on my mind during windy weather) smile..

Before we left we drove down through the village and checked out the harbour and caves..
Notice the huge icicles...

There are two covered bridges by the harbour and this picture with the red house is one of the most photographed pics taken in St. Martins..

Enjoyed our lunch...
So wished the tide had of been in but perhaps next time, eh?

On the way back home we passed rivers and a church that I remember as a child..
When we were on our way to my Grams and I saw the church with eyes, nose and mouth (grin) then I knew we were almost there...

We stopped and I visited a Thrift shop and found the best find..
I will show you next time.. OK?

All in all we had a lovely day..
Terry picked up some mussels at the supermarket and I made this delicious recipe for our supper..

MEDITERRANEAN MUSSEL PASTA

The recipe can be found HERE...
My fave chef from Prince Edward Island..
Michael Smith..

I used basil instead of oregano...
But it is delicious...

We only get mussels occasionally but this is a great way to have them...

Hope you enjoyed the little Winter field trip from Eastern Canada...

Take care dear hearts...
