Just plain country....

Evening dear hearts..
Want to come along for a drive to see some just plain country..
A little place named Corn Hill....
Beautiful, though..
The contrasts between old and new and between the blue and the green...
Old houses and barns and then simply gorgeous new houses and barns that look like cathedrals...
Simply country and simply beautiful..
One of our favourite rural drives here in Southern New Brunswick..
We are still in early Spring here in the Maritimes although it is greening up more every day as the sun shines and temperatures rise..
Love this time of year..
When all becomes new again...
Enjoy....

The evening has come..
The lights are on in the barns and the cattle are lowing..
God is in his heaven and all is well with this little piece of the world..

Thanks for visiting here at the Blessed Hearth...
Take care and come again soon..
Hugs and God bless..

A Winter's Field Trip for you...

Hello everyone..
So glad you dropped by the Blessed Hearth..
This morning Terry and I decided quite spontaneously that we would take a wee trip down to St. Martins to check on the old cottage and the shop..
So..
I made up a few buns and some coffee and away we went..
We drove about 2 hours to get there..
Past frozen over mountain lake and snow filled forests and rivers..
Then there is the wee rose colored shop..
The House of Henry..

And then here is the old cottage..
Sitting and waiting for warmer days and the sounds of laughter and running feet up and down the stairs..

We went in and checked it over and I was happy to see the old elm tree still standing.. (the one that is on my mind during windy weather) smile..

Before we left we drove down through the village and checked out the harbour and caves..
Notice the huge icicles...

There are two covered bridges by the harbour and this picture with the red house is one of the most photographed pics taken in St. Martins..

Enjoyed our lunch...
So wished the tide had of been in but perhaps next time, eh?

On the way back home we passed rivers and a church that I remember as a child..
When we were on our way to my Grams and I saw the church with eyes, nose and mouth (grin) then I knew we were almost there...

We stopped and I visited a Thrift shop and found the best find..
I will show you next time.. OK?

All in all we had a lovely day..
Terry picked up some mussels at the supermarket and I made this delicious recipe for our supper..

MEDITERRANEAN MUSSEL PASTA

The recipe can be found HERE...
My fave chef from Prince Edward Island..
Michael Smith..

I used basil instead of oregano...
But it is delicious...

We only get mussels occasionally but this is a great way to have them...

Hope you enjoyed the little Winter field trip from Eastern Canada...

Take care dear hearts...

Getting on with Summer....

Hello everyone..
Just a few pics this evening...

Passing through the city of St. John which is known here in Canada as the Loyalist City ( a very old city) with it's famous port on our way to Fredericton again yesterday..

Our tomatoes are growing well.. I made a Quebec Green Tomato Soup for Supper but I don't think it was good enough to pass along the recipe.. Very different and I am glad I tried it but will not do so again. smile..

Also... a few pics at the shop today..
It was so hot that mostly people just went by on their way to the beach..
I don't blame them.. grin..

Still have lots of old dishes if you would like them ...
Just kidding..

Making some wonderful pesto to freeze with the basil I bought at the Farmers Market on Saturday..

And there is dear old Sammi ...
Gone home with Terry for a couple of days..
They will be busy doing lawns and gardening stuff..

I am doing some tidying..
Terry got the deck painted and most of the roof mess is on the other side so I put it all back to rights this morning..
Love sitting out there in the dusk and feeling the wind on my face..
Drinking my lovely lemon cordial...

Lindsay bought one at the market ..Then when I got home I made one like hers.. She paid $3.50 for it..
I just put a 1/4 of the glass of the cordial  (recipe HERE ), added a slice of lemon and lime.. Topped it with water and ice cubes..
It is delicious...
I would love to find a glass glass with a cover though instead of this one from MacDonald's.. grin..
Perhaps they have one at Chapters...

Thanks for visiting and looking forward to hearing from you all..
God bless...

Back at the Cottage....

Good Morning, my dears..

Just a short post this morning to let you know that we are now back at our cottage in St. Martins for the Summer season...
The header picture at the top is of the cottage... smile...
(For you new followers..
Most of you have been here before, eh?)

This picture is of the Bay of Fundy at the end of our street yesterday...

Last night we could hear the waves from our bedroom window.. One of the little things that I enjoy the most about this place..

Our cottage is old and tattered and torn... honest...
But this morning as I sit here chatting with you the wind is blowing the sea air from the Bay and the sun is shining...
Lovely day... Thank you, Lord..

Anyway...
We are working away trying to get the shop ready to open...

I have decided to rearrange everything...
Oh, to be a person who does not need change must be heavenly..
Grin...

Oh well, it will be nice when it is finished...
The question is WHEN???  smile....

There is also gardening that is not done...

Herb beds and containers and such..
All in good time..

Here are a line of old quilts and wool blankets on the line this morning...
Getting a good airing out... smile..

We have not been this late arriving here before but some things  can't be helped..

Hopefully, the shop will be open next weekend ...
I am not going to be open on Sundays this Summer...
So thankful for that..

We did not have Internet for the first couple of days we were here..
The lines had to be replaced so I am sorry I have not been around..
Hope you all missed me... smile...

As for Sammi and I .....

We are just going to sit here in the living room and have our morning coffee..
Eh, Sam????   smile...

Love the water here at this old cottage..
Pure spring water and it makes yummy coffee...
One of the good things from God...

Planning on taking a few pics today of the shop perhaps..

First, though we are going to a Brunch for Terry for Fathers Day..
He loves their country brunches that they have in Fairfield every month...
I love it because I get to see a lot of my cousins..
That is what St. Martins is all about to me... smile..

Thanks for the sweet visit...
Praying for you ....
