A Week in August..

Good Evening my dears..
Here we are with another weekend almost over..
Summer is still here, though..
The temps still have not dipped very much but the nights are cool and we are getting some rain so all is well as far as the weather goes..

We had a lovely service at church this morning..
Another Lord's Day ...

A terrible tragedy has happened here in our little province of New Brunswick  as I am sure many of you heard this past Friday...
Two of our police officers and two civilians were senselessly gunned down and killed by a gunman in the early hours of Friday morning..
As a country here in Canada we are not used to this type of crime..
And here in the Maritimes of Canada on the Eastern coast we are just down home people..
Yes, it happens but not often..
We are so blessed to live here!

But what a tremendous loss!
Children left without a parent, spouses, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers and friends and relatives all left striving to understand the lunacy of such an act...
We are praying for God's sweet peace and comfort to cover them...
To give them strength and to feel His presence..
In a world gone crazy it is so wonderful to know who holds your hand..
Life happens to everyone but when you can close your eyes and know that He is in the midst of the storm you are facing...
We can lean on Him and gain strength and a measure of peace.
He is a faithful God and today I am thankful to know Him..

Please pray for these dear people...
The God of hope...

This is going to be more of a picture post...
Hope you don't mind..

We took a day trip to St. Andrews by the Sea one of those hot days last week..

So beautiful!
The air was so fresh and smelled of the sea..

We had supper at the Clam Digger...

It was as delicious as everyone says..
And huge..
I love fish so Terry had more fries then he needed..
Next time I will only buy a one piece.. grin...

Then of course we are back and forth to the farm..

Aren't they lovely!
As you know they are not ours but we do enjoy them..
The farmer works some of our property and we look like we are a real farm.. smile..

The tansy is out as I think I have mentioned before..

I post on Instagram most days and I can see that I am going to forget what I said here or there.. grin..
Here is the link to my page in case you were wondering..

I don't think you need an account to check it out on google..
Anyway...
The tansy is lovely!

My sweet husband is always so kind to pick flowers for me so I don't break my neck (grin) and gathered a bunch for me before we stopped at the farm the other day..

Charlie was very patient waiting for him and wondering what he was doing..
As soon as we get to the farm and let Charlie out he does a big run to the brook and dashes in ...
It is a Spring so it is safe..
It cools him down and we laugh because he will take a drink then look back to make sure we are still there and then take another drink and so on until he has enough... smile..

I made some lunch and then decided to make a wreath..

It was not complicated at all..
Just kept wiring bunches on all the way around..
I think it will dry well but time will tell..
I hope to make another bunch of salve soon, too..

We had a rainy day and so I made a big batch of bread..

We are having some sweet company this coming weekend so I froze several loaves to have..
It is to be hot this week too so I hope I get a chance to do a bit of baking...
Here is the recipe for this bread.. It needs to be kneaded..

This is a few friends that live close to us...

Aren't they beautiful!
Terry stopped by the side of the road so I could take a pic..
They noticed me and both of them came to the fence..

They were so lovable..
I wished I had a couple of apples but perhaps one shouldn't do that..
I think they must have great owners for them to be so friendly..
Just thought you might enjoy seeing them..

I made a nice batch of Queen Anne's Lace jelly the other day, too..

I will show you a pic next time of the jellies as I have a new idea for dressing them up for gifts..
Found the idea on Instagram.. grin..

This afternoon we took another little drive as I had spotted these flowers growing in this old lot on a drive by earlier..
It took us an hour to find them as we both forgot where they were.. lol... Oh... honestly!  Old age!!

We backtracked a couple of drives we had taken and both spotted them at the same time..
They dry beautifully and I want to make another wreath or two..
If they turn out well then I may make a few for gifts...

Do you know the name of them..
They remind me of Everlastings but they are not them..
I get a few every summer along a ditch and use them for potpourri, also...

For you sweet girls who asked me about the cake in the last post..
Here is the recipe..
Simple Cake
1 cup of yogurt
3 eggs
1/2 cup of soft butter
1 cup of brown sugar
2  cups of self rising flour
1 tsp. of maple flavouring
Mix well and place in a greased 9 inch round pan..
350 degrees F.

I just made a butter icing with maple flavouring and added the walnuts..

Also..
For the Berry Shortcake you can substitute whatever berry you like or even fruit or a mixture of berries..
sorry for being so long getting back to you all..

Thanks for dropping by and I always so look forward to hearing from you all..
Welcome to the new followers here and on Face Book...
God bless...
Hugs..

Spring in Rural New Brunswick, Ca...

Good Evening my dears..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..

Spring is such a glorious month and there is no place I would rather be then right here in good old New Brunswick..
You all know me..
I am not a traveller.. smile

Today we were on our way to a Home Going service of a wonderful sister in the Lord and it was a beautiful drive so I thought I would take a few pics..

The lovely Belleisle Bay which has flooded due to the heavy rains over the weekend...

Spied the sweet chickens...
Not very clear but they are there.. White ones..

Such a gorgeous bay of water..

Flooding as you can see but the roads were fine..

Grass is greener on the other side perhaps?  smile..

Next winter's wood..
I don't even want to think about it.. grin..

.Plenty of spring chores to do on these farms..

My favourite farm animal..

Love love sheep..

I am hoping one of my kids will read this and plan to put all of their money together and buy me one for Mother's Day..
I told Terry and he said ... no....

Oh well...
I can dream.. smile..

Really..
He is lucky that I don't want one of these...
Right?  grin..

Look at the horns on that thing..
Elk... I think..
There is a farm of them near Sussex..

A simply beautiful farm...

I wonder what he is looking at...

Dreams of yesterday...
So sad when these old barns fall down...
But still lovely...

Back to Sussex...
The Dairy town of New Brunswick...

Do you spy the Canadian flag there?

Hope you all enjoyed this..

Thank you so much for dropping by ...
I do look forward to hearing from you.. I am sorry I have not been very faithful blogging lately but like everyone else we have been busy with stuff..
Will post a bit of our doings next time, Lord willing..
Take care and God bless..

This is one of my favourite verses..
2 Corinthians 5:1
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.

So thankful for the hope we have in Christ..
Some glad day...

A Winter Sunday... .

Greetings everyone..
So glad you dropped by ..

Today is Sunday and another week soon will begin..
But for today we are having a day of rest..

This morning we gathered at our little church and was so happy that the huge storm they had forecast did not happen..
Although, the roads were messy because we did get some snow there were folks who made it there..

I so love walking through the doors of this wee church..
My heart swells with the love that I feel there and the Spirit of the Lord is real and genuine..
There were songs of praise and then Pastor preached another message that spoke to our hearts.
Afterwards the coffee was perked and we had a bit of fellowship..
I love this time because we get to catch up with everyone's week especially since we had the huge storm last Sunday..

We came home and had our Sunday dinner..
Sorry, no pic.. smile.
Fish... Mashed, veggies and a salad..
Just ordinary food but it tasted very good on this Winter's day..

Terry was busy doing his thing so I thought I would take a few pics and have a chat with you all..

I have a sweet cousin who lives just up the road a ways from us ..
He is from my Dad's side of the family..
His Mama is my first cousin..
Almost all of Dad's family are horse people...
They love and own horses...

Although, Terry was brought up on a farm and had horses and my Dad had horses we do not..
I seem to have missed that gene even though I went riding a lot as a child..

Well, this dear lad has a sweet wife and two little ones who all love horses and have such beautiful pics on Face Book that I asked if I could borrow a few just to show you ..

I have received several emails and comments of girls who live in far flung parts of the world who are mesmerized by Canada's snow..

I thought you might like to see these beauties outside on a Winter's day..
My cousin has a wee wee lad who is already learning to hold the reins.. grin..

Isn't that adorable?
Just imagine the creak of the sleigh and the bells jingling..
Lovely, eh?
I know it is cold but they are bundled up and having a blast...
We Canadians are a tough lot.. eh?

Anyway..
For the rest of the post I just took a few pics from my lazy boy looking into the Living Room..

Lots of snow covered apple tree branches..

The lamps are lit on this late afternoon...

An old tea set...

I bought this many years ago at an Antiques Flea Market..

Lovely old pattern sitting on a sweet patchwork runner that a dear friend made for me..
Also, many years ago..

Looking outside to the apple trees and hydrangea bush..

All sound asleep but hopefully will start to awaken soon..
I love Spring..
That is all I am going to say.. smile..

So now..
I think I will go and make a hot cup of tea and have a cookie or two..

I made these yesterday for our fellowship at church ...

But I kept a few to have with our tea today..
Would you like the recipe..
It is from our daughter-in-law, Tammy who is an awesome baker..

Sugar Cookies..
1 c. butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups of white sugar
1 egg
2 1/4 cups of flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
I add a grate or two of nutmeg.. optional
1/4 cup sugar for rolling cookies..

Oven 350 degrees F.
Cream together butter and sugar until light.
Add egg and mix well..
Stir in flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla and nutmeg.
Scoop out cookie dough and roll in small bowl of sugar..
Set on cookie sheet and press down lightly with fork or your two fingers..
Bake for 10 minutes or until just lightly browned..
Leave them on the tray for a few minutes then transfer to cooling rack.

Tammy found this recipe on the internet..

That is all for today except to remind you all of my little give away that you can find HERE..

Thank you, everyone for your kind responses and comments..
I had to clarify a few things in the comment section so hopefully you won't find it too complicated.. smile.

I wanted to explain that on the top part of my sidebar is my Face Book badge..
You do not need to belong to FB to be able to read this ..
You can just click on the badge and check to see if there is anything new.
I am trying to put some small thing on or bring up a past post..
Ok?

God bless you all on this Winter Sunday..
