Fall Farm Day...

Good Evening my dears..
Hope all is well with you in your part of the world..
We are having beautiful weather this week in New Brunswick..

This morning shortly after we woke up our power shut off..
No coffee for hubby so he decided we would visit our old farm..
He wanted to cut down some wood back by the brook and so off we went..

It was a lovely lazy kind of day..

I took my calender papers to finish and spent an hour or so just going through some old Country Living mags from the UK which you all know I love..
Here is the link to the blog post where I shared this with you all HERE..

Then I made a couple of apple pies for the freezer..
When we went to the city on Tuesday we bought 50 pounds of apples so I have been trying to get them put away..
I want to make the Roasted Apple Sauce tomorrow..
It is a favorite of ours..
The recipe is in the book Wren Bay..

Dinner was a simple affair..
Beef has gone sky high here in Canada so one frugal way I have found is to take only 1 steak and cut it quite small...
Saute it along with onions, mushrooms and potatoes and it makes a lovely dish..
We love squash and beets so we had a few of those, too..

I have what I call Mrs. Robinson's dishes there in a china cupboard..
She was a dear old farmer's wife who used to be our neighbors many years ago..
I think of them every time I set the dishes out for dinner..

Yesterday, I gathered some hydrangea so took a bundle to the farm for the Living Room..

All in all it was a nice day but it is good to be back home for the evening..
I love going to the farm but always want to come home to sleep..
Weird, eh?  smile..

Well, I must get to bed so have a great night everyone..

Thanks so much for your visit and lovely comments..
Oh and welcome to the new followers of the blog..
So great to have you..

God bless.. xo

  1. Hi Faye, what a beautiful day to be at the farm! Such a gorgeous week weather wise. I love Mrs. Robinson's dishes. They are so pretty and your dinner looks delicious on them. The pies look so good too. I have to get my apples picked soon. Enjoy the weekend. Hugs. Pam

  2. Oh Faye, I do the same thing. Here in PA, red meat is absolutely expensive, so I have learned to make more beans, and buy cuts of meat that I can use for three meals. It is an adventure for sure ;-D Your pies look just delicious!

  4. I love your table settings. They're simple and beautiful. Meat is expensive here too. We only eat meat about three times a week. The rest of the time we have fresh or tinned fish or vegetarian meals. Enjoy your weekend, love. xx

  5. Oh I've missed coming over for a chat. It all looks so cosy and homely here Faye. I love the calendar idea. I just treated myself to country living magazine this week too. It bought a big creamy white potted hydrangea a few weeks ago and it has just begun to turn the same lovely shade as yours.
I haven't forgotten that you asked for the fruit cake recipe and will email it to you today. I'm so sorry it's taken so long for me to get around to doing it.
Hope you have no more hiccups with the power.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  7. What a wonderful visit with you Faye Henry!
    Beautiful day indeed.
Today my daughter and I are driving up to the mountains for some apples.
I will be making sauce and hand pies tomorrow.
I bet your home sure smells good.

  8. you are so at peace to waking up to no power! i go completely nuts when that happens. I think because my entire house is electric might have something to do with it. Only then do we discuss buying a generator. When the lights are back on my mind is erased of generator purchasing :) the thought of pies in a freezer sounds delicious and delightful!

Your farm looks beautiful, a very special place.
I didn't know you liked English Country Living magazine.
Enjoy your weekend, I am behind with my post as we had a lightning strike & it took our phone lines down for five days.

  13. As always, everything looks so delicious. My husband and I have baked beans in the oven today, and are getting ready to make some apple pies. We still have so many on our trees. I hate to see them go to waste. I might have to do a bit more applesauce, too!

    Hugs,
    Julie
