The hills of Albert County....

Hello dear hearts..
Just a wee picture post of the hills of Albert Co..
I think there is a song out there that says the hills are calling me.. grin..
They do call to us and we are often taking drives through these hills where my grandparents lived as children and where my dear Dad rests until Jesus comes again..

Just a few pics to show you where we come from.. smile..
Albert County is famous here in N. B. not only for it's beauty but for the individuality of the folks who live there and are proud to say they were born there..
That includes me.. smile..

Have a great evening where ever you may be..

Dear hubby had a birthday today and he was so happy to wake up thinking he was a year older only to find that he was actually a year younger...
God bless the dear thing..
and you, too..
xo

P. S.
My sweet Pam over at the blog Playing with my Camera also posted about beautiful Albert County last night.. She loves this county also and has many fond memories of it..
Please go over and have a visit with her and I know you will be heading to Hillsborough if you live here.. smile..

Friends and Chocolate Cake and such..

Good Evening, my dears..
I expect you thought I was taking a trip or something as I have not posted on here for a bit but alas I have just not been very creative in the blogging department..
We have been enjoying our summer, mostly..

The weather has finally turned summerlike for the past several weeks and it has been extremely hot up home so we are blessed to be here by the Bay..
The temps are warm but the breeze keeps it from stifling, if you know what I mean..

Last week we enjoyed the company of some very dear and long time friends..
They even brought chocolate cake and such..
They had their trailers over at the camp ground and dropped by most days..
So nice to have friends who just pick up where we left off and we just kept on going.. smile..

Of course, it is pickle time and Terry and I did up 100 pounds of cucumbers...
Lots of mustard, of course and these below are a new recipe I am trying..

Cumin pickles..
One of my all time favorite spices..
I think I will like them but not dear hubby..
Bread and Butter are more his style..

I also tried some Curry ones but I do not think they will be a success..
They all floated to the top for some reason.. Oh well..

A little Shamrock plant growing on the old kitchen window sill..

A couple of days ago we went home as I had to go to the doctor..

Having a few knee problems which is the pits...
Old age has a few negative factors, shall we say.. smile..

I had wanted to go home around about way so we did..

Here are a few pics for you of good old New Brunswick..

This was through Hampton, Belleisle  and Sussex..
Such beautiful cottage country and lovely farms...

While we were home we went to check out that all was well at the farm and Terry took a little walk back to the brook..

I tried to catch a pic of him climbing that fence but he was too fast for me.. grin..

Slept in our waterbed for a couple of nights and it was lovely but we headed back here to the cottage today...

It was rainy when we started out but by the time we did a bit of shopping and such it was sunny here and much cooler then home..

I see our view of the bay is changing..

Notice the Goldenrod growing there..
Fall is on it's way, I guess..

I think this was one of the shortest summers in history since we bought the cottage 20 years ago..
Seems like it anyway..
The Spring was so rainy and cold and we were late getting here..
You know..
Yada yada yada..

I do love Fall but am not looking forward to Winter..

I was listening to a Christian radio station on my way home from the doctor's yesterday and the speaker was talking about the world and all of the nasty situations that are going on ..
Then he said but we can wake up with JOY  in our hearts because we have Christ living there and no matter what comes or goes He remains the same..
It was such a lovely reminder of something that I know but I need to make a deliberate decision to start my day each morning with JOY in my heart ...
Bad knee or not.. grin..

God bless you sweet readers..
I appreciate each and everyone of you...
I left the recipe such as it was for the soup on the last post in the comments section..

Thanks for visiting and sending hugs your way..

A Winner and a Night Out in the Country... German style.. ...

Hello everyone..
Hope you are enjoying your weekend..

I wanted to apologize for being late as to posting who the winner of the little quiz was..
We went out last night and I did not get to it..

The prize is just a thought or thank you for following the blog..
A country style pillow cover and mat..
I didn't know where it would have to go so I picked something that could be folded up and placed in an envelope and sent..
Our Canadian postage is scandalous these days.. smile..
I hope she likes it..

Terry picked Mary Stiles so Mary if you could email me your address I will put it in the mail for you..

Last evening we were invited out to supper with some old friends of ours to a local restaurant just many miles from us..
Gasthof Old Bavarian in Knightville..
You can read about it HERE

We were early so while we waited I enjoyed a lovely cuppa..
I even like their dishes.. smile..
Then there were baskets of homemade German breads..
Served with a sweet mustard..
Terry loves mustard and he enjoyed it very much..
It was not really my cup of tea but the bread was delicious..
I only had one piece as I wanted to enjoy my meal..

This restaurant was featured lately on You Gotta Eat Here so I knew the plates were huge..

This was an appetizer which we shared..
A cabbage roll and Spatzle with a sauce that was out of this world..
Then this Cream of Sweet Potato Soup was free with the meal and it was soooo good..
The soup junkie that I am only really needed that.. smile..

Here are some of the plates that we were served..

The men ordered the Oktoberfest Platter..
Lots of German meats..

Then this is a pork hocks platter..

Amazing, eh?

And this was mine..

The Vegetarian Platter.. smile..
I just am not a meat eater and love salads so this was just right for me although I could not finish it at all..

It was so much fun and we had a great time except for me trying to get Terry to stay out of the bread basket.. grin..
Thanks dear friends for inviting us...

On the way home I took these pics..
It was such a beautiful evening..
Thank you, Lord for all of your blessings...

This farm used to be our Brother-in-Law's old homestead..
So beautiful...

Well, God bless you sweet friends..
Enjoy your Lord's Day and try to make time for Him...

Hugs...

Giveaway Reminder and a Rose Powder recipe...

Hello everyone..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..

I am afraid this Friday night has not turned out as we planned.
We were expecting the Keepers of the Home tonight for our annual over niter but circumstances interfered..

I have been sort of laid low with a bad Summer cold and could not get my act together...
Also, my Mom was taken to the hospital for infection and with all that we decided to postpone it for a bit..
Hopefully in a week or two we will be able to succeed..
smile..

Anyway, just sharing a few pics of the House of Henry and the dear little village of St. Martins that we summer away in...
I hope you will enjoy...

I wondered if you would like to make some of your own rose powder ....
Roses are plentiful right now so it is a good time to try some..

ROSE POWDER RECIPE
In a plastic tub with a lid add the following...

1 cup of baking powder
1 cup of arrowroot

Whisk together well and then add some rose petals...
Put your cover back on and each day shake them about..
You can double this recipe if you like..

In a couple of weeks sieve out the rose petals and add several drops of rose essential oil...
Rub each drop in with your fingers until well distributed...

Keep covered ...
A lovely gift for your gift pantry if you put it in a jar and perhaps add an antique shaker or puff...

Now here are some pics I took on a little drive through the village.

St. Martins, New Brunswick in Eastern Canada...

Thank you for dropping by..
I did want to thank you all for signing up for the little give away..
You can sign up HERE...

And I am sorry that I could not show you what I did with the roses and Queen Anne's Lace.. The batteries in my camera died and I could not find my other ones..
So... I will do that tomorrow night hopefully...

So happy you stopped by and I am looking forward to hearing from you all...

Have a blessed weekend...
