Wednesday Evening in April...

Good Evening everyone..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth on this Wednesday ..
It is a very rainy week here in New Brunswick..
The rain has been falling steadily here for several days and our province is once again fighting flood waters..
Our capital city is in a bad state as is many parts of our province.
We are blessed to live in an area that is not near the St. John River and is on high ground...
Praying for these communities that suffer so during this type of Winter with lots of snow in the north then so much rain in the Spring.

How are you all doing?
Did you have a grand Easter..
We had a nice one but quiet non the less..
We did get to St. John and we all attended an Easter drama that Shonda and Dave were in..
All except for our youngest who lives in the west as you know..
Miss him so much during these holidays especially...
After the drama we all gathered at Shonda and Dave's house and had a lovely visit and food, of course..
And our gorgeous grandsons!
They are just so much fun!

David had a big birthday so we were able to celebrate that also...

Things have been sort of slow around here lately..
The weather is not helping..
Although it is Spring except for a few lovely days it seems that it is quite dreary...

We went out one day looking for a few pussy willows for Easter..
We spied them in this ditch..

It was kind of neat since they were on Terry's old farm where he grew up..
I think I will keep some of them for awhile..
They are lovely and big this Spring...

We were out to the farm on Monday and it was so nice and warm..
Cloudy but the brook was running and the wind was blowing..
It is still not very green but it won't be long...

It is amazing how drab it is one week and you turn around twice and the place is full of dandelions and green grass..
I went through the house making plans for moving out there for the summer months..

We hope to do some painting inside before we get there..
I would like to paint the walls a creamy colour..
And the curtains need changed and so on... smile..
I wish the kitchen was this clean now but it needs some work, shall we say..
Soon...

The gardens are ploughed and will soon be dry and ready for planting..

Our garlic weathered the winter and is up already as is a few herbs..
Charlie was ecstatic to be there!
Just runs around like a puppy and drinking from the spring..
Although, he keeps looking back to make sure we are not leaving him there.. smile.
I love this season the best of all of them..
What is your fave season?

Here is a sweet pic of our daughter and son in law with their Easter drama costumes on..

So cute!

Terry and I had a dinner with Mom and my Step father but on one night we had a meal just for the two of us..

Roast Beef for a change from Ham and Turkey..
It was lovely..
But next year hopefully we will return to a ham dinner with all of our family here ..
I missed that actually although it was a lot less work.. grin..

We did have lovely Easter service at our church..
We shared the Lord's supper and that is always so special..
Just thankful that I know the risen Saviour and He's in my heart today...
Do you know Him, too?
He makes life so worth the living..
What I so love about Jesus is that He is as close as the mention of His Name..
We just need to whisper his Name in prayer and He is there and available..
And faithful!
Meeting our needs and comforting our hearts..
Like the old chorus goes..

Where would I be without Jesus..
Where would I spend eternity..
Lost in  a world full of sorrow..
Without Jesus ...
Where would I be?
Just wanted to share with you a bit tonight.

And now on we go...
My Mom turned 85 on the 15th...
We took her and Gerald out for dinner to their favourite place..
St. Huberts...
Then I wanted to make her a little somthing ..

This is their cat Mable..
They both love her so much..
So...
I made this pillow for her birthday ....

Not a great job but it is the thought that counts and she liked it...
It is amazing how fast time goes..
I remember when Gram (her mother) was 85.
So many sweet years have passed...
Praying we will have many more with her...
This was a stir fry I made for tonight's supper..
One piece of steak goes a long way in a stir fry.. smile..

Anyway...
Thank you all so much for dropping by..

As I said we will be going to the farm soon and then I will have something to chat with you about..
The first pic up top is one of our meals out there..

Anyway, dear hearts have a great week and I look forward to hearing from you all..
Your notes are precious to me..
Take care of yourselves and your sweet families and we will meet here again soon, Lord willing..
Hugs..

Plants, Easter and Keepers...

Hello sweet friends..
Just a little afternoon post for a change..

Putting up some pics of our Easter week and such..

Last week, I think it was (lol) we took a little trip to a wonderful plant nursery near Fredericton and picked up a few houseplants that I have been longing for..

When Terry and I were married for about 8 years we moved to Sussex to be near our church ...
We had bought an old house and thought we would update it and all..
Terry wanted to be in the country and we eventually had a small hobby farm..
Chickens, turkeys, geese, pigs, rabbits and 3 dear dear sheep..

We also grew quite a big garden and in the eight years we lived there I learned to preserve fruits and veggies along with the help of my Mother-in-law who was such a fount of knowledge in that department..

The house was the bane of my existence as I did not like it from the first day we moved in...
I know..
Where was my mind?  lol..
The lady who owned it had turned it into a lovely sweet place with her old furniture and plants and such but when it was emptied it did not have the same charm, shall we say..
That first day I sat on the couch alone and cried.. sigh...

Anyway, we made do and learned so much while we were there..
We made it our own in time..
Terry picked up a few carpentry skills and I learned a few new things, too..

To get back to my story... smile..
The old house had lovely wide sills on those tall old fashioned windows and I had a lot of the sills full of house plants..
I would pick up a slip from a plant here and there and beg them from my friends and aunts..
Before long they were everywhere..

Later, when we bought this house which I have loved with my heart from the first day we moved in and the plants came along with me..
There was the Sun Room, you see and they filled it so nicely..
Sorry to say that after a couple of years they caught some kind of bug or disease and I lost almost all of them..
My heart was broken and I gradually just stopped growing any plants..

Many years had passed before I visited my friend with the wonderful pantry and log home and saw her plants..
Not that I had not noticed them before with my Mom and such but for some reason I actually noticed them..
Can you covet plants?
I guess not but I really wanted to get some.. smile..
But even with her contributions and buying them here and there I felt there were a few missing plants which I had loved before..

Well, the same  friend had been up to Scott's Nursery and was telling me that what they were selling and low and behold they had the a few that I had not been able to find to buy or beg...

One is called The Mother of Thousands which I always called Strawberry Begonia..
The String of Pearls, Lipstick Plant, Gold Fish Plant, Bunny Ears Cactus and The Wandering Jew for a few of them..

Terry (bless his heart) took me there and they are in the pic up above..

Something nice happened while we were there!
I was crossing the room to pay for my plants when I noticed a sweet face...
Her name is Pam and she is a fellow blogger who I have not met since I started blogging and found her blog which is called
It was lovely to see her and connect...
She was a customer of mine when I used to do the craft shows in Fredericton many years ago and we had not seen each other since.
She has several relatives here in our village, too..
We both wished we could just go for coffee and talk..
Another time..

The second pic is something I found on the web the other day..
And that is that there are five plants that you should grow in your bedroom as they help you sleep and are great for the air you breathe all night..
Lavender, Snake Plant, Rosemary, Aloe Vera and English Ivy..
Another one is Jasmine Plant instead of Rose Mary but that was too expensive for me..
Anyone have a slip? grin..

Did you notice my Pregnant Onion plant in the photos..
It has a blossom on it and I am so pleased..
I was given that plant slip by a sweet lady at Kings Landing a few years ago and just love the thing..
It has had about a dozen babies and even has a couple of grand babies..grin..

Our plants for the gardens are growing..
My peppers, celeriac, fennel and such are up and if you peek in one of those pics you will see Basil growing on the coffee table..
Terry has tomatoes, cabbage and such..  smile..

Did you all have a good Easter?
We had a lovely weekend but quiet..

Made some Hot Cross Buns from my friend's recipe..
Dinner was Ham and Veggies ...
Set the table using place mats made for me by Shonda..
Some old egg cups and bunnies I have had for years..
Nothing fancy but a blessed celebration..

Mom certainly enjoyed all of your sweet birthday greetings here and on the Face Book page...
Thank you..
And thanks today for dropping by and leaving your sweet notes..
Truly appreciate each of you!

We are having Keepers of the Home on Saturday morning in Salisbury at our little church on Fredericton Road if you would like to attend..
We are doing the Spring thing with homemade cleaners and toiletries and breakfast..
Love to have you if you are in the area...
Just drop me an email or a note on the Face Book page for the blog..

Take care dear hearts and God bless.. xoxo

Thinking Spring....

Hello dear hearts..
Just a few lovely pics from the internet tonight..
A bit of spring fling perhaps..

I love beautiful pictures, don't you?
And Spring holds so much joy with everything being made new again..
The pic above have such a beautiful blend of shades, don't you think?

And this one...
I had lunch today with some dear old friends and we were saying we should all get a new bonnet..
Not me, though.. grin..

And this one is so inspiring to make ..
Tomorrow, Lord willing, I will give it a try..

My friends and me included are going to strive to do one good thing each day this week..
A healthy choice, something creative, a kind deed or just something lovely but different..

I absolutely love this one..
Rabbits are something I have always enjoyed.
Rabbit ornaments, crafts or real ones.. smile..
This one is adorable!

Perfection!  eh?
Love the spring rains..
It beat outside our open bedroom window the last two nights and it was so soothing..

Such beautiful dishes for Spring, I am thinking..

And nothing heralds Spring anymore then a line full of laundry blowing in the breezes..
And the red dogwood...

Another beautiful little craft for the making...
A few dried roses make all the difference!
Very Spring like..
Gorgeous hues of blue..

Rain ... beautiful refreshing rain...
And Spring brings us Easter..
The most precious remembrance to a Christian..

Tomorrow is Good Friday...
The day that  made salvation possible for humankind..
When Jesus paid a debt He did not owe..

The old chorus we used to sing goes..

I owed a dept I could not pay
And it was growing every day
But Jesus..
Paid it all for me..
He gave his life on Calvary,
He died for men like you and me,
What a Saviour
I love Him, yes I do!

But He arose...
Thank you, Jesus!

God bless you all this night ..
Have a lovely weekend with your families..
I hope to get back here and post a Saturday night post..

Take care my friends.. xo

Wow.. What a Week...

Good Evening everyone..

Hope you all had a blessed Easter ...

What a week we have had here in New Brunswick ..
Last week we had some historical weather..

You can tell I am Canadian because weather seems to have it's part in each post that I write.. smile..

Anyway.. Last week we had floods everywhere..
We woke up and our son called and said that the town he lives in a half an hour from us was in a state of emergency..
Flood waters were practically covering his part of town..
Terry and I decided to take a wee trip out to our old farm to make sure it was all right..
It took us most of the day to get there as every brook and river had overflowed and a lot of the roads were closed..
We tried 3 different ways and finally arrived there..

What a relief..
It was fine even though it is in a hollow and the brook runs across the back and down the side of it..
Terry said he had not seen it so high before..
Who would believe that just 4 days ago he had to snowshoe over that huge bank to get into the house..
Now not a trace of snow remains..
Here are a few pics that I took along the way..

All these dear old farms surrounded by flood waters..
We did not get back home until supper time and couldn't believe some of the photos of other places here in the province..
The next day we went for another drive to see an old covered bridge that had floated 20 km. down the river to come to rest at a highway bridge..
More beautiful farms surrounded by water..
We saw ducks and geese everywhere..
Hundreds of them..

Do you notice the ice...
The flood waters had come down through the night but where it had been froze and looked like cellophane papers..
Beautiful, though, eh?

And this is what is left of the old covered bridge..
What a shame...
The province has a huge chore to mend all of the broken roads and bridges..
People are stranded and have to drive miles out of the way ...
So much damage occurred in just a few hours and caused so much damage and waste..

We did have a lovely Easter, though..
On Good Friday we all gathered at Shonda and Daves..

We were so thankful for what the day represented to each of us..
Jesus paid a great price for our souls and we are so thankful for Calvary..

Dinner was lovely as always..
Thank you, dear girl...

On Sunday morning we all celebrated the risen Christ..
Because He lives we can face tomorrow..

We had company for dinner and had
more ham and such.. smile..
So thankful to spend 3 days with our sweet family..
Thank you, Lord..

One dessert was delicious..

Fresh fruit and melted chocolate bunny..
A delicious Fondue...
Thanks Veronique...

The little guys received new bikes and enjoyed driving them..

Bye Mom...
See ya later...
Another few pages of precious memories..

The flood waters have receded and life is getting back to normal...
Looking forward to sunny days and garden plans..
How did your week go?

I loved having you drop by and look forward as always to your lovely comments..
Take care, dear hearts..
