Frugal Homemade Friday...

Happy Friday to you all..
A lovely homey evening here at our house..
The snow is falling outside but Terry and I are snug and warm inside..

He and Sammi are napping on the couch and I am chatting with you dear ladies..

We try and go out on Friday night for our little date night but in the Winter we usually just stay at home or have some company over..
If we don't then I just try and plan a nice supper and we just relax together..

For tonight, though, I thought I would share a couple of little home things I made..

A wool runner and window valance for the kitchen....
I have always loved hearts but with February almost here I decided to add them..
I had bought a few yards of some wool at Value Village (one of our Canadian Thrift Stores) for only a few dollars..

There was enough to make 2 of the runners (the other one is for a Keepers of the Home prize) and also 1 valance..

You can see them in the window over there..
It is a brown, black and barn red check ..
The hearts are red ticking fabric..

Nothing fancy but frugal..
I love changing little things especially when it does not cost much..

I had mentioned in a posting a bit ago before Christmas about Terry painting a few things in the kitchen..
With black paint, of course.. smile..

This is what he painted..
The doors to the pantry..

I just love it..
I had painted the hutch, table and chairs awhile ago..

He also painted the little pass through doors to the Dining Room..

I think black paint is a very frugal way to update your furniture or whatever...

Frugal and Easy...
Especially, when he does it for you.. smile..

It is almost time to make supper here as I was taking these pics..

Someone is getting hungry..grin..

Not a great pic but you can spy on him, eh!!

This is what is was looking like outside then..

The days are getting longer.. thank you, Lord..

I always look forward to January because the days get longer and we always have a little break in the weather with the January thaw..
grin.. We have not needed it this Winter..
The weather is certainly not typical Canadian Winter weather..
I am not complaining, mind you..

I also made a little Friday night date treat..
Have you ever made these?

Yes...they are as good as they look.. grin..

We certainly won't eat them all.. We have a dear son who has no one to cook for him except his mama..

But a nice cup of tea and one of these will be lovely after I get done here.. grin..
Here is the recipe..

Friday Night Treats..
1 sleeve of saltine crackers..
Place these on a cookie tray..
Turn your oven on to 400 degrees F.
In a little pot place 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of butter..
Whisk together and bring to a boil for 2 or 3 minutes..
Pour this mixture over the top of the crackers and spread..
Place in oven for 7 minutes..
Sprinkle a package of Milk chocolate chips over the top.. Let them sit for 5 minutes and then spread with a butter knife..
Place in your fridge until totally chilled..
Break into pieces and store in a sealed container..
These are a lovely gift, too..

Well my dear girls have a blessed evening and I will try to get back to you all soon..

Thanks so much for dropping by and for leaving your dear comments..

Remembering the faithfulness of our Lord..
Love to you all..

Sweet Friends...

Good Afternoon everyone..

I don't usually post in the afternoon but here I am.. smile..
It is a sunny day here with wind... Lovely...

I received a wonderful prim gift in the mail this week..

Kendra from THE STONE HOUSE PRIMITIVES  read my blog one Monday and noted a sentence I had made... smile..

She stitched it up and sent it to me..

Lovely, eh!!
That is truly how I feel most Monday mornings.. smile..

Along with that she sent me one of her prim creations..

I love this winged heart, Kendra..
Thank you so much..
We make so many sweet friends blogging..

I think it looks perfect here ...

February 14 will soon arrive..

Note the plaque along to the left.. That was also a dear gift from a long time friend.. Lynn...
I love it...
It says..

God didn't promise days without pain...
Laughter without sorrow nor sun without rain..
But He did promise strength for the day..
Comfort for the tears and light for the way..

So true ...

Friends are an awesome gift from God..
I love my friends and count them as blessings..

One friend  I talk to almost daily is Pam..
She is like my sister and we even look alike..
Or so people tell us.. smile..
I could not write about friends and not mention her..

I am thankful to the Lord for all of you..
Whoever you are and where ever you live..

Jesus Christ is my dearest friend..
It is such a privilege to know Him...

Take care my dears..
Thank you so much for your visit and sweet comments..
I read each and every one...

May God keep you in the palm of His hand...

A Bowl Full of Lemons..

Hello my dears...How are you all?
Here we are beginning another new week that the Lord has blessed us with..

I had wanted to start this week with something a bit creative but our hydro was off ALL day..
Terry had to go away so I went with him ... grin..
Alas... I did not accomplish a whole lot..

Tonight I was making supper and did up a salad..
(we are trying to eat more of them)   Must be January.. grin..

Anyway, I made a INFUSED OIL  that I have been using for years and thought perhaps you might like the recipe..

Lemon Oil...

Take the zest off of two washed lemons..

Place in a small pot with 1 cup of olive or canola oil..

Place on your lowest heat and infuse until it just begins to simmer..

Turn off and cool.. Store in a jar..
A mason jar is great..

I just keep this on my counter ..
The recipe says it will keep for a month but I find it never lasts that long..
Great over fish, salad and such..

For salad...
I just pour a bit over and add a squeeze of lemon juice and some fresh herbs ..

I find that you only need a few veggies for a simple salad...
Lettuce, onion, mushrooms and cucumbers for tonight..
Tomatoes are so expensive right now..
I used fresh rosemary from my window sill..

If you have a good dressing it makes all the difference..

As one of my friends once told me ...
Only 3 veggies in that salad and I could lick the plate..
It must have been a good dressing.. grin..

Well, dear ladies that is all for tonight..

It has been a bit of a day if you know what I mean..

I think I shall make a nice cup of tea...
Oh... for a nice cookie or square.. grin...
What kind would you like?

I think I would like a SKOR BAR...

Have a very blessed week..

Let's pray for each other.. OK?
Love to you all..

A wee collection..

Good evening everyone..
It is another Saturday evening.. It has been a very cold day.. Last night the wind was howling but tonight it is calm out there..
I had mentioned this week about my wee Bible collection..
I just thought I would share a few of them with you..

This one is a Common Prayer Book and not a Bible but it belonged to my Great Aunt Emily..
March 6, 1911..

Sweet, eh?

I have 2 little colonial chairs and they make great wee Bible shelves..

Terry headed for the woods again this morning..

He and his friend are having a great time..
He must be tired, though as he has not been getting home until after 8 p.m.
Tonight I have a little treat for dessert..

Homemade Lemon Pie..
I am not a great pie maker but it will pass..
I hope ... smile..

A nice cup of tea ...

Tomorrow is the Lord's Day..
Have a blessed one dear girls..

I am slowly learning how to use the Picasso thing that I uploaded..sigh...
It didn't come with instructions..

A week of learning for me as far as the computer goes..
Slow and sure... smile..

I have a little creative idea for next week..OK?
Starting Monday, I hope...

Thanks for dropping by and I look forward to hearing from you..

Hugs..

Psalms 119:11
Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee...

A January Day ....

Good Morning my dears..

It is a snowy day here in Maritime Canada.. We finally have some snow.. Not that I am complaining about the lack of it.. smile..
I am one who could sail right through Winter without a speck of the white stuff..

Don't tell our sweet grandsons.. They are ALL five of them skiers and I am sure that they pray everyday for snow..
But  as for their dear old Gram she can live without it.. smile...

When we have some fierce weather here at home my mind always goes to the south of the province to our old cottage in St. Martins..

I expect the Bay of Fundy looks like this today... We actually took this pic almost a year ago when we were down checking it over..
I love the Bay... No matter the weather.. The rougher the better, though.. smile..

Terry and his long time friend Luther went wood cutting again yesterday.. They had two days on the mountain and came home  each night with a load of wood each..grin..
They were like two little boys going on an adventure..
Lunches and all..
Today with the snow, though it is not to be..

What are you doing today?
I am heading for my sun/sewing room, I think..

I am in a creative mood as all I have been doing is cleaning and sorting
..
I find inspiration in there... smile..

Lots of books in this house..

Are you a book lover?

The web is great but give me a book that I can put my hands on anytime..
I can put the pic a few inches from my face and not miss a thing..
smile..

I was at a thrift store and picked up a few things to redo..
So... I may do that or I may sew...

Who knows?

Terry is not up yet so all my plans may change..
The retired life is very unpredictable thing..  grin..

I do love this tea cozy... How do you spell that word?

In the UK they spell it one way and here in N. A. we spell it another way.. I forget which is which.. smile..
Oh well, you get my drift..

I thought I would end up with a pic of a small collection that I have..

The best book of all ...
The Word of God..
Bibles..
I love Bibles and always pick up little wee ones for my collection..
I will show you more another time..

This morning I read from  II Corinthians..

Chapter 5 and verse 1 is one of my favorite verses..

FOR WE KNOW THAT WHEN THIS TENT WE LIVE IN NOW IS TAKEN DOWN--WHEN WE DIE AND LEAVE THESE BODIES--WE WILL HAVE WONDERFUL NEW BODIES IN HEAVEN, HOMES THAT WILL BE OURS FOREVERMORE, MADE FOR US BY GOD HIMSELF, AND NOT BY HUMAN HANDS..

Isn't that a wonderful verse..
That is from the THE LIVING BIBLE..

I must go and get at it so I bid you a fond farewell for now..
Have a wonderful weekend sweet ladies..
God bless...

The Lights of Home...

Good Evening my dears..

It was a fine but cold day here today..
Terry went to the woods to cut some fire wood..  I managed to get quite a few chores completed.. I am trying to get the house back to normal after Christmas..  It takes a bit of time..smile.. I think it is mostly complete now, though.. Thank the Lord..

What were you busy doing today?

As darkness began to settle down around the house I went out on the deck and took this pic...

The lights are on.....It is warm and cozy inside..

I put a bunch of geraniums on the window sill today..

I love green growing plants in the Winter, don't you?
These ones will all have red blossoms when they bloom..
I brought them in from the Summer..

I wonder what is cooking for supper..smile..

I think that is a loaf of bread cooling on the breadboard.. Right?
And perhaps some kind of soup ???  smile...

Terry arrived home from the mountain top with a load of wood...

And an empty belly... smile..

He enjoyed his supper..
Chicken stew flavored with summer savory..
And a fresh loaf of bread..
Comfort food.. So good when you are tired and cold..

Now the dear man is having a little snooze.. grin..
He is so cute when he is sleeping.. Don't tell him that I said that..
smile..

So thankful to have him home all safe and sound..
Thank you, dear Lord..

We are not as young as we used to be ... smile..

Well, this is just a little touch base with you kind of posting..

Thanks for dropping by and welcome to the new followers of the blog..
I appreciate you one and all..

And may the God of love and peace be with you..

A Winter Dough Board Display..

Hello there..

Just a short post as I am in kind of  a blogging mess.
I could not sign into the dashboard for my blog and had to upgrade to Google Chrome ... It is different and I need to figure it out..
Lord, help me.. smile..

Anyway...
This pic is of my stove with an old dough board display on it..

This dough board belonged to my dear Mother-in-law...
I treasure it and I don't leave it on the stove all the time..
My sweet hubby thinks I might leave a burner on.. smile..
After the episode the other day with the stock pot I now understand him.. grin..

Anyway, I am glad you dropped by for a moment..
I am sure that  I  will soon learn how to adjust to this new blogger experience..

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Sending blessings your way...
xoxo

Want to name 5 Simple Pleasures....

Hello there sweet friends..
A simply beautiful day here in Eastern Canada ..
The sun shone and the temps were just right..
A wonderful Monday to begin the week..

I thought that I would share 5 simple pleasures of my day with you.. OK?

Checking the bird feeders and watching the early morning visitors would be number one..

We had a small flock of these first thing this morning..

Another simple country pleasure today was this new notebook..

A lovely gift from a dear friend... Imagine 400 pages...smile...

Number 3 simple pleasure has to be this little guy..

Sammi... unconditional love... every day.. smile..

Number 4... Just a simple garden salad for lunch..
I can eat salad almost every day.. So long as there is a simple homemade dressing..
Basil, garlic,  oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper is today's house dressing..smile..
What is your favorite salad dressing?

And last but not least... Number 5 which is this new book...

A SLICE OF ORGANIC LIFE..
I enjoyed going through it.. It has a lot of good green ideas in it..

Here is a floor washing recipe for you...
FLOOR CLEANER RECIPE..

Into a bucket of warm water mix together...
1/4 cup of liquid soap
1/2 - 1 cup of white vinegar..
To enhance the fragrance you can add a few drops of essential oils of choice (lavender, orange) along with a few drops of tee-tree oil if desired..

Well, my dears that is all for tonight..

Would you like to leave me a list of  5 of your simple pleasures..
Or more if you like.. smile...
