Frugal Homemade Friday...

Happy Friday to you all..
A lovely homey evening here at our house..
The snow is falling outside but Terry and I are snug and warm inside..

He and Sammi are napping on the couch and I am chatting with you dear ladies..

We try and go out on Friday night for our little date night but in the Winter we usually just stay at home or have some company over..
If we don't then I just try and plan a nice supper and we just relax together..

For tonight, though, I thought I would share a couple of little home things I made..

A wool runner and window valance for the kitchen....
I have always loved hearts but with February almost here I decided to add them..
I had bought a few yards of some wool at Value Village (one of our Canadian Thrift Stores) for only a few dollars..

There was enough to make 2 of the runners (the other one is for a Keepers of the Home prize) and also 1 valance..

You can see them in the window over there..
It is a brown, black and barn red check ..
The hearts are red ticking fabric..

Nothing fancy but frugal..
I love changing little things especially when it does not cost much..

I had mentioned in a posting a bit ago before Christmas about Terry painting a few things in the kitchen..
With black paint, of course.. smile..

This is what he painted..
The doors to the pantry..

I just love it..
I had painted the hutch, table and chairs awhile ago..

He also painted the little pass through doors to the Dining Room..

I think black paint is a very frugal way to update your furniture or whatever...

Frugal and Easy...
Especially, when he does it for you.. smile..

It is almost time to make supper here as I was taking these pics..

Someone is getting hungry..grin..

Not a great pic but you can spy on him, eh!!

This is what is was looking like outside then..

The days are getting longer.. thank you, Lord..

I always look forward to January because the days get longer and we always have a little break in the weather with the January thaw..
grin.. We have not needed it this Winter..
The weather is certainly not typical Canadian Winter weather..
I am not complaining, mind you..

I also made a little Friday night date treat..
Have you ever made these?

Yes...they are as good as they look.. grin..

We certainly won't eat them all.. We have a dear son who has no one to cook for him except his mama..

But a nice cup of tea and one of these will be lovely after I get done here.. grin..
Here is the recipe..

Friday Night Treats..
1 sleeve of saltine crackers..
Place these on a cookie tray..
Turn your oven on to 400 degrees F.
In a little pot place 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of butter..
Whisk together and bring to a boil for 2 or 3 minutes..
Pour this mixture over the top of the crackers and spread..
Place in oven for 7 minutes..
Sprinkle a package of Milk chocolate chips over the top.. Let them sit for 5 minutes and then spread with a butter knife..
Place in your fridge until totally chilled..
Break into pieces and store in a sealed container..
These are a lovely gift, too..

Well my dear girls have a blessed evening and I will try to get back to you all soon..

Thanks so much for dropping by and for leaving your dear comments..

Remembering the faithfulness of our Lord..
Love to you all..

  1. Faye, ur kitchen looks lovely and I love the black ......lovely picture of your kitchen, especially with Terry looking into the refrigerator. I love the runner and curtains. I appreciate the looks so yummy and seems so simple. Thanks again for posting and also ur friendship means soooo much!

    1. Hi dear Faye :-) Our nights are getting lighter too. I love it :-)
WOW, such a spotless kitchen. I could have had one, if I hadn't yearned for there to be muddy paws around. My excuse :-) Have a super weekend Faye.
Black looks good in there. Here I normally try and turn every thing white. Maybe the reason why I haven't got such a spotless kitchen :-) Keep well and again, enjoy your weekend. No snow here. But it has been known Easter Eggs and snow :-) xxxxxxxxxxxx

  2. Oh I have noticed the days getting longer. It makes me feel better. We just might get a bit of a thaw next week with rain in the forecast. Your kitchen is very cozy and you are quite creative with the sewing machine! I have made that snack before and it is delicious. Enjoy the weekend. Blessings. Pamela

I just love the Valentine things that you added to your kitchen, Faye, Your kitchen is so clean and cozy but the hearts just add so much at this time of year. I was already thinking about what fabric I have so I could sew up some things, too.

  14. You are so thrifty and crafty! I love your valentine runners just right for date night!!!
    God bless this weekend!

  15. Love the runner and the valance. So pretty! Love the black in the kitchen. I have been debating on painting the bottom cabinets in our kitchen black. Just not sure yet. The treats look delicious! Just might have to try that recipe this weekend. Have a good day!

  16. Lovely job on the valance and runner. I see the hearts on the valance through the light and it looks really pretty. Nice treat recipe. It looks easy, too.
Enjoy your warm cozy home and your weekend.

  17. Faye,
Another thing that I find is so reasonable is to find wool scarves at the thrift stores to use for a runner or what have you. I get them for between .99 and $1.99. I wash them in hot water when I do a load of towels then dry them, cut off the fringe...or leave it if you prefer. I get all sorts of fun colors of wool this way. I would pay $12- for half as much wool at the store. I may have mentioned this in a post before so sorry if I am repeating myself!

  18. ~Faye~ what a great and frugle idea for a treat ... I know I will be making this.I also know 4 girls that will enjoy more than one helping of this treat! Thanks for the great idea.Steph

  19. Your kitchen is lovely! And your valance and table runner are are so creative! Oh, how I love that the days are getting longer!

    Weekend blessings to you,

  20. I love the black accents, Faye~ it makes the other colors just POP off the page!
Thanks for sharing the recipe... ( my fat pants thank you too... *grin*)
Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

  21. you're always up to something neat... nice candle, by the way!
    PS- Hi Janet B!

  22. Beautiful kitchen Faye - looks so warm and cozy and your new runner and valances are just are stitching up a storm lady.
I love the recipe you gave - I've hear of these but never had the recipe...I'm making these - they're rather like toffee squares right??? I imagine you could sprinkle chopped Pecans on top before the Chocolate cools.

  23. Your kitchen looks SO warm and cozy! I love your cabinets... so unique. And your decorating looks great too!

  24. I'm making the FridayNightTreat now.It aint Friday and I aint got a date but they are gonna be some good!!!
