That Kind of Day....

Hello everyone..

It was a rather rainy day here in Eastern Canada...
Terry and I headed to Sussex to pick up groceries and do a few errands...

We bought a big bag of apples...

And on a rainy afternoon what does one do with a few of them???

Well... you pick out 6 good sized ones...

And peel them and then slice them...

Put about 1 cup of sugar (more or less), 1/4 of a grated nutmeg, 1 tsp. of really good vanilla and about 1/3 of a cup of flour..

Mix well and place in a prepared pastry filled pie tin..
I used a 9 inch one..

Cover with another circle of pastry and brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar...( a wee tip from my Gram)...

Bake in a 425 degrees F. for 15 minutes..
Lower heat to 375 degrees F. and bake for 35 minutes..

Then make a nice hot cup of tea with china loose tea and cut a piece for you each...

Enjoy...

Well... we did... grin..

Pie is not very often on our menu plan..
Let's just say it was good... very good..

Now for my lists ..... and such......

The new Country Living UK is in...
smile..

Hope you are all having an awesome weekend wherever you may be...

Tomorrow is the Lord's Day...
Have a blessed one..

Hugs..

  1. Hi Faye, your apple pie looks so delicious. I'm not a big pie eater so one piece would do me. It was a nasty day here wasn't it? Murray and I went into town late afternoon for a few errands and the roads were really wet. Dangerously so. It's good to be in for the evening. Have a blessed Lord's day.

today has been rainy here too,
a wonderful time for homemade stew and
some quick mac & cheese tonight for a boy I
know who always seems to cut himself with every
new knife he buys. comfort food heals quickly.
at least he thinks so as he smiles going out the door

We are suppose to get rain over the next 2 days. I am so looking forward to cooler temps and the sound of rain. Have a blessed Sunday

  8. I made an apple pie today, too. I've never put a top crust on mine though if I did, I would do the milk wash and sugar as well. I've eaten it that way and it is delish.

I never have enough crust leftover for a top - as I'm always filling up the other 2-3 crusts with something else. I made a (the best!)Pecan Pie and a Kentucky Hot Brown Tart today with the rest of my crusts. Both recipes are on my blog - somewhere. Lol!

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  9. We haven't had a rainy day for so long I hardly remember what it's like. Your apple pie looks VERY delicious! Nothing better than hot pie and tea on a rainy day, though.
    Have a wonderfully blessed Sunday!

  10. Your pie looks so delicious. I made some oatmeal bar cookies this evening. They are cooling right now. Hubby came out into the kitchen hoping to sneek away with one. But he said he was a bit disappointed there weren't any cookies he could take. I said they were square cookies and they would be cut in a bit! He's off shaving at the moment so he doesn't have to do it in the a.m. before church. Would love to have some rain. It's been raining leaves off our heritage birch tree and some make their way into the house, no matter how many times I sweep out front. Sigh! Have a great day, my friend!
