Saying Good bye and Hello ...

Hello my dears..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth today..
Hope you are all having an awesome weekend..
Here it is almost mid August..
Can you believe it?

We had Supper outside again tonight..
That is one of my favorite Summer simple pleasures, I think.. smile..

We have had a lovely but busy week..

Some sweet old friends have been camping here in St. Matins this week so have had a few fun times with them along with keeping the shop open most days..

At the first of the week our daughter, Shonda and her family finally got moved to their new home...

Here she is last Thanksgiving saying good bye to us at her home then..
But this is the new one..

Not a very good pic, I am afraid but you can see it is totally different from the one they have just left..

We dropped by there to pick up a couple of things that Shonda had given me and her Dad walked down to the boys camp..
Can you see him down there by the trees..

I must admit that there was a tear in my eye as I stood there and watched the sweet family of Canadian Geese that have returned here for several years..

As I remembered the many beautiful times we as the Henry family have shared at this lovely place along with David's family, too..

We have watched our grandsons grow from wee boys to now being teenagers..

We celebrated several Family Days here with the pool and then Christmas and Thanksgivings..
Birthdays and just happy times..

As I stood there with the wind blowing off the lake and the drizzle of rain I prayed for the new family that would be moving in..
That God would bless them with love and joy and give them many happy memories that we have all shared in this dear house...

We thought we would drop by her new one and were surprised to find Trevor and his family visiting, too..

When we left I snapped this one through the rainy windshield..
They are in there making more happy memories ...
I am sure this will be a place of joy, also..

They have many different views of this lovely river and Shonda will soon have it all organized and beautiful..

When she does I will show you a few pics of inside..

We thank our Lord for all the blessings on our family and for each home of our 3 children that God will bless and keep them..
That each grandchild will be taught that God is the most important facet of their lives and that He brings joy and peace into a home..

Well, sweet ladies this is about all for tonight..

This is what we had for supper..

The days of enjoying the BBQ will soon be over so I keep it humming.. grin..
We seem to eat a lot of chicken and potatoes and salad, eh?
I think I need to get a new menu..

Thank you so much for visiting and your sweet sweet notes..
I so enjoy them all..

Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow..
We are having a little day cation and going to
Life at the Lakes..

I will tell you all about it next time, Lord willing..

God bless...

Supper at the Cottage with a recipe...

Good Evening everyone..
How are you all doing?

We are having glorious weather here in St. Martins by the Bay of Fundy.. smile..

Our oldest son and family are on vacation in Ontario and I guess the weather is very hot and humid..

Then our youngest son dropped down to see us today and the first thing he said was how cool it was here.. He said it was really hot up home..

I am glad to be here where we put the heat up this morning while we had our breakfast and then I wore a sweater over to work at the shop.. It did turn out sunny and warm but just right..
A lovely blessing...

Anyway, I still do not have the shop ready..Yikes...

Dustin came down so I decided to spend some time with him and of course I needed to feed him.. smile..
He really enjoyed it and had two plates..
Bless his heart..
Nice for him to have a home cooked meal..
You know what most bachelors eat.. grin...

I was tired, though so it was a really simple meal..
This pantry is not really stocked for the summer yet..

Perhaps you would like this recipe..
It is just one that I make without measuring but there is no way you can mess it up...
I don't think so anyway... smile..

Pasta with Broccoli and Lemon..

Put some water on to boil to cook as much pasta (I used spaghetti)
Make sure you put lots of salt in the water and cook as much as you think you need...
Then while that is cooking slice up several large mushrooms and a couple of cups of broccoli or so..
Make sure the broccoli does not have long stems on them..

When you have them ready just add them to your spaghetti that is cooking..

It takes about 5 minutes or so to cook the mushrooms and broccoli..

Then shave off  as much Parmesan as you like and get a lemon ready to squeeze..

Drain your pasta and veggies and add a large tablespoon of butter and your cheese..
Stir well along with your squeezed lemon...
You could just use lemon juice but I prefer fresh ones..
You could add a speck of cream, too, if you like...
Add a bit of freshly ground pepper and sea salt ...

We love this although I try not to make it very often..
Terry and I both like it too much.. smile..

Hope you try it and enjoy it...

Just thought I would share a pic of my everyday dishes here at the cottage...

You guys know me and my dish fetish..

Brown transfer ware...
I like all different patterns..
Do you?
What is your favorite transfer ware color?

Well... my dears... it has been a very long day and these old bones are tired..
I say that a lot lately, don't I?
Sorry...

I doubt if I get open tomorrow but Friday for sure..
I am sorry I did not get to answer all the questions last time...
As soon as I know my hours I will post them up top of my blog and my phone number... OK?

Our son just phoned to say he got back home..
He told me he wouldn't call.. grin..
He thinks I worry too much and he tries not to encourage my dependence on knowing where and how he is.. smile..
Us mothers are mostly all the same, though, eh?

So blessed to have such dear kids...
Thank you, Lord..

Good night sweeties...
Hugs..

Old Fashioned Ideas Week.... Rosemary and Lavender Herb Balm....

Hello my dears..
Just a little pic there of what it looks like along the coast here tonight..
Kind of a rainy and then sunny but a cool day.
Tonight I am giving you another idea from my old book..
This is lovely and just the right time of year to make it when fresh herbs are so available..
It is an HERB BALM...
It says it soothes aching muscles..
Just what I need.. smile..
Very simple, too..

SOOTHING HERB BALM RECIPE
1 oz. fresh lavender
1 oz. fresh rosemary stems
1 pint of olive or sunflower oil.
Put this in a crock pot for a day on very low heat.
Cool and strain..
I use a coffee filter or cheesecloth inside of my sieve.
Then just add some essential oil of either rosemary or lavender to suit your taste..
This is optional..
Find a lovely jar and sterilize it..
Add your oil.. I put in a few sprigs of lavender, too..

It says to use sparingly..

This would make a wonderful gift for someone like me who aches at night.. and morning .. and afternoon...  just kidding.. smile..

Now...I have written just below this on how to freeze herbs..
Wash and spin dry or use your SALAD BAG..
(Just click on the words to link to that posting..)
Freeze in baggies and chop to use..
I freeze a lot of basil mostly..
Then I add it to whatever.. soups or sauces..
But you can freeze others..

Also..
I thought this was worth writing down..
GOD'S BLESSINGS..
MERCY
FAVOR
GRACE
PEACE
PROTECTION
I pray that these will overflow in your life as you turn to Jesus..

And last but not least is a torn page for a recipe for PEPPER VINEGAR..
I do not have a pic of this but I do it every Fall..
Just fill a mason jar with fresh clean chili peppers and top off with distilled white vinegar..
When it runs low then just add more vinegar..
Use it to drizzle over greens, french fries or use it to spice up your salad vinaigrette.
Peppery Vinegar must be kept in the fridge..
And make sure if you give some away that it is sealed tight.. I gave some to one of the Keepers of the Home and she spilled it on her new coat.. Sorry, dear... smile...

Well, dear girls.. I hope I haven't been boring you silly with this stuff..
Just one more night to go and I will turn it off.. OK?
Thanks again for your sweet comments and for your emails.. I really enjoy them..
The Lord bless and keep thee..

Love to you all..
