COMFORTS OF HOME..

Good Evening dear hearts..
Hope you are all well on this lovely Fall day..

Terry and I spent another day at our old farm since my last posting..
We so enjoy going there and pottering about doing whatever..

The Winter will soon be here and we won't go there very much so we are enjoying it while we can, I guess.. smile..

While we were there he came in with a bouquet for me..
The two little bird nests in the basket in the first pic..
He found them while he was out cutting the thorn bushes..
I love them..

Our green tomatoes are almost gone but we had enough left to make these...
You can find the recipe HERE..
They are so different and have cumin in them which I love..
They turned out lovely..

I also made some of this applesauce...

This is our favorite applesauce..
The recipe comes from the book Wren Bay..
Clarice has such lovely recipes in this book along with a sweet story..
You can find out about it HERE..
These are for the freezer for cold Winter mornings along with a slice of homemade bread..
A favorite breakfast of mine... smile..

We also had ripe tomatoes..

So Salsa was made that day at the farm, too..
Quite a productive day just putting by..

We made a little trip to St. Martins on our way to our daughter's...

I had been invited to go and have a part of her church ladies
Comforts of Home Evening demonstrating the
No Knead Bread...

The recipe is HERE..
The tables were decorated so lovely and all of the evening was very inspiring..

We learned how much life has in common with biscuit making..
Every ingredient works together to make something of value..

Shonda did a game with lovely prizes..
I didn't win.. grin..
Then they served some lovely chowders, soups . desserts and such..
Delicious..
A lovely evening..

Such busy days ...

On Saturday I made a corn chowder ..
It must be Fall..

And then on Sunday we celebrated  Pastor Appreciation Day..
We certainly are very thankful for him and his families'  dedication to the work of the Lord..

As always the food was once again wonderful and the fellowship was sweet..
A very blessed day..

But now it is Monday evening and this week is underway and will fly by, I am sure..
I have made another series of lists..
Things that I really need to accomplish this week..
Are you a list maker?

And are you preparing your home for the coming Winter?
What is on your to do lists?

I would love to hear from you the things that you are accomplishing  or hope to accomplish as would everyone, I know..

What do you consider as comforts of home for the cold days coming up?

Thank  you so much for dropping by and so look forward to hearing your comments on this subject..
God bless..

  3. Sounds like a lovely weekend Faye. I am a list maker. If I didn't I'd forget what I need to remember. ;) As for getting ready for winter we haven't done a lot yet. The weather has been so nice that I still haven't tossed my summer flowers yet. They are still blooming. Well, the impatiens to too chilled last night so I had to throw them out. I think it's the longest I've kept them. We haven't put in our patio furniture yet either and I barbecued salmon for supper tonight. I hope this nice weather continues for a few more weeks don't you? Oh, Murray washed the outside of the windows on Saturday and all the leaves are gone off the trees so they are raked and bagged or put on the garden. Take care and have a good week.

  4. Your no knead bread sounds good and I must try your green tomato recipe - I just have a small amount left from clearing my plants in the greenhouse at the weekend. Have a happy week. Sarah

  5. I always love coming by here for a visit :)
    Welcoming, and cozy posts!

You have canned some delicious garden goodness.... it will taste so good this winter.

I do like lists, although they are usually just in my mind :)

I need to still put the garden borders to bed, next to the barn, and we need to cover the wood pile.
    That should do it.

    Enjoy this week, my friend...

  7. Yes, winter is on it's way. We had snow here Sun. p.m. and some flurries yesterday. I did bring out the wool blankets...change the sheets, flipped mattresses...was nice sleeping last night "snug as a bug in a rug." Your food looks so good - your daughter is following in your footsteps - using her talents as a ministry. I'm in charge of a Thanksgiving project for smaller kids at my brother's little church. I am also doing a Christmas craft project the the kids to take with us to carol at the nursing home. I was thinking of making popsicle stick angels. Blessings from Wisconsin.

  8. Good morning Faye, You did have such a productive day for sure at the farm. The applesauce looks yummy. Do you freeze it in the bottles are just leave in the pantry? I did not get my salsa made this year, just not enough tomatoes. We spent the weekend at our cottage but was not near as productive as you, I just so enjoyed being there.

I am a Grammy now and am loving it like you would not beleive. Well I guess you would, has you have grandkids. They live right across the road so I am fortunate enough to see her every day and snuggle and of course give her lots of loving and kisses.

    Hugs to you Faye xoxox

    1. Hi Krista.. CONGRATULATIONS.1! So happy for you all.. Yes, I freeze them in a mason jar box with the cardboard dividers and that way they don't get broken...

  11. Hi Faye.... I guess we have to get ready for winter now, I can't believe Oct. is almost over! As always, look forward to your posts and lovely pictures. Its great to have your own food from your garden during the winter months - we know what we're eating when we grow our own.

I don't know if you have ever been here or heard of it, but theres a wonderful country décor/prim shop in Boiestown - its called Candle in the Window; she is having her annual Christmas open house first weekend in Nov. I think you would love this place! You can find her on Facebook.

  12. You have inspired me to make another batch of your wonderful bread and maybe some corn chowder, I love it so much!
As for getting ready for winter, I kind of do a Fall clean, like Spring clean only I bring out my quilts, blankets in the living room and rugs on the floor.
Sounds like you had a lovely time at church, did you see Carla C? I would so love to see her again.
    Have a wonderful day!

  13. I wonder if they make a candle that smells like bread baking? I would buy it if they did. Nothing smells better than coming in from the cold to smell freshly baked bread. Well, maybe a big old pot of soup simmering away on the stove. Love your photos today.

  14. This post is so inviting . . . I just want to spend my day here. I love those little primitive stars on the table, they are adorable. Your canned goods are beautiful. I never learned to can and I have always thought that food setting on shelves in canning jars was a reflection of love and warmth. They show the kindheartedness of the woman of the house and her love of family.
As I say good-bye, I am going to take a deep breath and imagine how wonderful your bread must smell.
    Keep Smiling,
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

  17. All the food looks delicious as always! Especially that bread. I love homemade bread :)

I am a big list maker. Right now it's mostly things around the house to say goodbye to summer and welcome in the fall. We just cleaned up our garden beds (no more tomatoes) and I cleaned out the chicken coop and added lots of fresh bedding to keep them warm. We have to mow the lawn one last time soon as well. Fall is definitely here!
