The Keepers of the Home visit a by gone era...

Hello there everyone..

Stopping by this evening to share some photos of the Keepers of the Home's visit to Kings Landing Historical Settlement here in New Brunswick last weekend..

It was a beautiful Fall day and the temperature was perfect for visiting the village..

We arrived at the settlement around ten o'clock last Saturday morning and walked into a 1800's style Thanksgiving preparation..

Each house was busy cooking and preparing tables for the next day..
Homemade pies and pickles and even whipped cream were all on display...
Fireplaces were blazing as veggies were being peeled, chopped and cooked in cast iron pots..
Herbs such as mint were being made ready for teas and they were drying on racks in every house..
Soups, custards and puddings were being baked in  wood stoves ..
It sort of made us hungry.. grin..

Homemade scarecrows were all made ready for a contest the following day and we were able to vote for our favorite..

I loved all the bouquets of flowers that the ladies of the each house had on their tables as well as all of the lovely old dishes..

One dear soul gave us a little tutorial on napkin folding and we were able to video it..

My special joy. though are the pantries..
I love them all but the first picture is the one I always remember..
Perhaps it is the green which I favor so much..

There were pumpkins, squash and hanging corn and onions in most old porches and barns..

The little girls were so pleased to be able to paint, dress up in old costumes and even deliver a teacher's pay.. smile..

Then we all went to the Kings Head Inn for a lovely Turkey Dinner..
It was delicious and served in such an old fashioned manner..

We even had a taxi back to the parking lot.. grin..

Believe me after doing all that walking I appreciated this the most of all.. smile..

All in all it was a lovely day with some precious ladies ..
I feel so blessed to be part of such a dear group of sisters in the Lord..

Thank you so much for dropping by and as you know I love hearing from you all..

Have a great weekend, my friends...
Faye..

  1. How fun! We did something similar this past weekend. I'm still waiting on all my photos (borrowing from friends, because I forgot my camera)... but yes!! I love these sorts of "visits"... and I LOVE that first photo, too.

Such a simple way of life and yet oh, so hard... that we totally have "romanticized"... haven't we?

  2. I'll start over again as I lost my first comment!!!!!! Hi Faye, It looks like it was a wonderful day at the outing for the "Keepers". I love all of the flowers scattered all over the place. It is interesting to look at the serving pieces and work bowls. The game of baseball sure was a pastime for everyone in yesteryear. I really admire the old church and it's beautiful steeple in the trees. Now, I LOVE the pic of you and the scarecrow......you look lovely....she looks like a real "pip"! She would look great in front of your shop next year! Just saying.......

  6. Oh, Faye... What a beautiful place! Oh, I would so love to visit there. The 1800's is my favorite time period. The pictures are gorgeous. I love that pantry too! I think I would frame the picture, actually! Aww. We have some places like that in PA, but not that picturesque... Wow. I need to look through again! Love and hugs to you!

  7. What a fun trip that was! I took my pics on Sunday night to show you but forgot...I'll try to remember tomorrow. I like how each time I go to KL the visitor experience is different from the time before... guess that's why I like to keep going... I'm so signing up for a class or two next summer!

  12. A joyous post Faye, thank you.
The simple joys of homemaking are so often forgotten, and taken for granted. I love the simple joys of making a welcoming home.

    Enjoy this weekend, my friend.

  15. It looks like a perfect day at KL Faye. Your photos are beautiful. I love all the pantries in KL don't you? I sure wish I had an old fashioned one. I remember my grandmother's house and my aunt and uncle's both having big pantries. I can almost smell them when I think about them. Thanks for sharing your visit to KL. Hugs, Pam

  16. This was emailed to me and asked if I would paste it on... Hi, I wish I belonged to a group like yours. You all do such fun things. I am enjoying being at the farm in Hicks Settlement, picking apples and making pies and crumbles. Also picking high bush cranberries and cleaning them to make cranberry juice this winter. We just put 40-10 cup bags away for ourselves, have given more than that away. There is nothing like the great outdoors that God has made for us to enjoy. I could very easily have lived in this bye-gone era. Back then everyone was at the same level, life was so simple. I guess I am just old enough to remember the one room school house and the horse and buggy days. It was such a wonderful time. We all harvested and prepared our food for the winter ahead in those days, as there was no going to the store for our needs back then. I loved that time in my life. Our children have missed so much. Keep up the good work you are doing Faye, and God will bless your ministry. Our younger ladies need to know how to better look after there families. Love and pray for you and your group of ladies.
