A week of old fashioned ideas.. .Lavender Freshener Recipe..

Good Evening to you all...
I mentioned in last night's posting that I had come across one of my old IDEA books when I was home on the weekend.  I thought that I could share some of the ideas that were written in there..

I constantly have an idea book on the go...
Having a craft business for 20 years keeps one always looking.. I think that is why I like

so much..
The first idea I want to share with you is a Lavender Freshener Powder..
When I was at the dollar store I picked up this bottle that has a vacuum seal.. Also some lovely large glass shakers..
This powder can be used for your linens or for some your rugs or mats.. OK...
Here is the recipe...
You can cut this down if you like..
I want to sell it in the shop so I made the whole batch..

LAVENDER FRESHENER POWDER..
6 cups of baking soda
3 cups of dried lavender
1 cup of cornstarch
lavender essential oil..(if desired)
As much as you like...

Put in a container and mix very well..

I used a whisk as I added several drops of the essential oil..
Then just keep it covered for several days before you use it..
You could store it in an ice cream container or anything, really..

I want to place this in shaker containers and will probably tie a piece of fresh lavender on the shakers to sell in the shop..
I think you could also put it in a sugar shaker but alas I could not find any..
Now... it says here to sprinkle generously on a rug or mat and leave for a few hours and then vacuum..

But I think it would be lovely to use in your bed..
Just put a fitted sheet on your mattress and sprinkle to your heart's content and then place another clean one on top and make your bed... Won't it smell heavenly..
Then when you wash your bedding just do both sheets.. It would be worth it to me to have to wash an extra sheet.
Most men like the smell of lavender..
Or...
You could leave out the lavender and use another essential oil that you like..
There are so many choices..

There are some suggestions written here..
Cloves and Cinnamon
Rosemary and Lavender
Dried Mint..
Here is my suggestion...
Patchouli and Grapefruit..
*if you use lavender buds be sure and crush them before adding to the recipe..

If you don't have a source of lavender buds then just use the oil.. It will still work..
And no the lavender buds won't hurt your washing machine because you are not going to put the whole works on.. Right? Just shake it outside before you place it in your washing machine..  smile..
OK..
Another thing written on the same page is this...

It takes a long time to grow an old friend..

That is a true statement and I like it as much tonight as I did when I wrote it down.. grin..
Now...
The last idea on these few pages is this..

Fill a spray bottle with water and part vinegar and add a dozen or so drops of your fav essential oils and spray away on your carpets, rugs or mats..
I do that at home when the dog has been laying on the back door mat..
It works..

Well, sweet ladies that is all for tonight..
I will try and share some more with you tomorrow night..

Thanks again for the visit and please let me know if this is of any interest to you all..

Love to you all...

  5. I bet the Lavender Freshener Powder would make my bed smell so good! I have used vinegar and water to clean up puppy accidents before but never thought about adding essential oils.

I hope your day has been nice!

  12. Thanks Faye, I use this recipe for freshener here, my little boy loves to do the shaking on the rugs! You have packaged it so prettily, it will look lovely in your shop - we make up a small batch at a time and use a barbecue marinade shaker to distribute it! x

  17. I read your post about the lavender oil, do you spray the sheets while they're in the closet or before you put them on the bed? Also, you mentioned you make your own laundry soap, does it make your clothes white? How do you get around the fact that there's no optical brightners? I'd love to try it but don't want dingy clothes and towels, lol!
