Good Evening everyone..
Just a little posting tonight for you..
We went to a couple of thrift stores this week and I thought I would show you a couple of little make overs..
The little white shelf with the two drawers cost only 99 cents plus tax..
I have needed a little shelf in my sun/sewing room..
And this was just the right size...
The doll was the same price and I could kind of picture them together.. As you know I love making dolls but when you can buy one all made for that price then I buy them and redo them..
Anyway, this is how they turned out..
All I had to do with the shelf was to sand it some and then paint it with black acrylic paint..Rubbed up the edges a bit and then a coat of water based sealer..
Ta Da... all finished..
As for the doll....
As you know I like the primitive style..
I took off the doll's hair and lace collar and buttons and bows ...
Then I dipped her in a bowl of strong tea along with a piece of cheesecloth..
They spent a few minutes in a 200 degree oven..
Just needed to add a little painted nose and some rusty colored yarn hair..
The cheesecloth made an apron along with a wood star..
And she was finished, too..
On the shelf I just put an old pin cushion, a couple of old bottles of buttons and a little sewing machine...
All done... smile...
Do you look for things to make over when you go to the thrift shops? I find wood pieces and dolls the easiest things to make over..
Black paint does an easy redo of a shelf or what have you..
Dolls might be a bit more complicated but if you get a pic off the web you can get some ideas for them .. It is not that hard really..
Oh, I thought I would show you this rug I am working on for my sun room also..
I bought it at the thrift store for $5.00...
Just sewing some prim stars on each edge..
I will show you it when I get it finished... OK?
Hope all is well with you sweet ladies..
I appreciate so much that you have been visiting and leaving your comments.. I so look forward to reading them..They are such a blessing to me...
Also... welcome to all of the new followers.. So glad to have you stopping by..
AND thank you so much for answering my WEE QUIZ..
I received so many emails, too..
If you haven't done so please feel free to..
I am enjoying hearing from you all..
So... good night for now..
May God bless and keep you..
Hugs...
Wow, I really like your make-overs. That doll looks great. And black is my favorite furniture color. Great job. Cyndy
ReplyDeletePlease do share that rug!!! Would love the inspiration!!! Great shelf redo...and I don't think I've thought of redoing dolls...hmmmmmmmmm............
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot the quiz! I love what you did with the doll especially. I never would have thought of that in a million years.

Love your makeovers, Faye! My eyes are trained to look for pieces to makeover/redo. I'll go to a store looking at new things and picture them primmed up, hehe! Especially when I worked at Hobby Lobby. I bought lots of pieces there that I brought home and distressed to make it more prim. The shelf you picked up is a great piece to makeover. I never thought about giving a doll a makeover. I love the cheesecloth apron that you made for her! Can't wait to see the rug. =]
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week~
Hi, Faye, I love your make overs! I like to make over thrift store beds into benches. :) I am going to be on the look out for little wooden shelves now. I want for my sewing table too. :) I can't wait to see how the rug turns out.
ReplyDeleteHave a great night.

I love your makeovers, so sweet, the little boot, I love. Little dolly got a new do, she looks so good! The small cupboard looks so different, I really like it! Hope you are having a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThis is one fantastic make over...you would never know they were the same two items.
ReplyDeleteI really like them Faye...that doll is adorable after you 'made her your own'.

What great makeovers!! I would not have thought about making over a doll...but yours came out so cute!
ReplyDeleteFaye,
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I never thought of redoing a doll, next time I see one at a thrift store I am going to consider her a little closer! I love, love, love to redo wood items from the thrift stores! I have a big (and I mean big!) box of things waiting for makeovers in the craft room. I think my favorite makeover was a wine rack I use for a rolling pin rack...it's to small for all of the pins I have now so some are in a crock now. I love the boot pin cushion!
Thanks for sharing!
Watch your mailbox...going to the P/O today (I'll get educated in mailing to Canada for the future!).

I like your little shelf and dear little doll. I love to makeover things by painting them, too. I have a little rag doll rabbit and a primitive doll that needs some tlc. My oldest daughter made them both for back when she was young and living at home. (That feels like a hundred years ago.)
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of a big project here, it's my kitchen table. I am so excited to finish it and show how it turned out.
Hugs, Cindy
I love love love it!! Katie
ReplyDeleteFaye, how are you doing? Goodness, don't know how I missed this post. Your blog is always one the first that I read. I love your posts and how your sweet self shows in what you write.
ReplyDeleteGreat job redoing those things. :) I love your heart post divider too. Hope you don't mind me using it too.
Take care, have a great day. Janet W
