Using up an old quilt and cheese caraway bread recipe..

Hello everyone..
We had a beautiful sunny day .. It was a bit cold but we Canadians expect that.. We have had a strange Winter but the last few days felt a bit more normal..

I  feel much better today.. The first one for about 10 days or so..
Thank you, Lord..

Terry has been working away and I had such plans to accomplish so much but that did not happen.. sigh..
I guess he will have to help me..smile..

He is home again tonight for which I am glad..
Semi-retired is what he is.. grin..

Today, I worked on a couple of  projects..

I was not happy with our mantel after I had taken down the Christmas stuff so today I kind of tweaked it up..

Shonda had given me the framed yo-yo embroidery for a gift a while back and I had it in the living room.. I brought it out here as I think it goes well with the pewter collection..
Kind of prim, too..
I would dearly love to paint those pine boards but you know men and their wood.. smile..
I will keep working on him, though..

Sammi..(our dog) is allowed to be up on our love seat if I am sitting there so I always have to have some kind of a cover on it so that he won't ruin it with his nails..
Yesterday, I was tidying up in the spare room and came across an old machine made quilt that I had picked up at the thrift store for five dollars..
I thought perhaps I could make some pillows or something with it..
To make a long story short (grin)  I ended up with some throws for the couch and love seat and a couple of  cushions..

The scalloped edge works great on the back of the couch as Sammi sneaks up there when we are away..
I see his nose prints on the window... smile..
The brat....

I cut the quilt's long edges for the backs of the couches and the centre made pillows and another throw for the cushions on the love seat..

Just a couple of little cushions to throw here and there..
Nothing fancy but serves their purpose for a while..
And frugal... right?

I also found a new no knead bread recipe in Gram's old recipe box and made a loaf today..

CHEESE CARAWAY BREAD..

Here is the recipe...
It is a lovely bread and so easy to make..

2 tsp. instant yeast
1 1/4 cups warm water
2 T. sugar
2 T. shortening
2 tsp. salt
1 cup of shredded Parmesan or cheddar cheese
1 tsp. caraway seeds
2 2/3 cups flour

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water..
Add cheese, shortening, sugar, salt, caraway seeds and 2 cups of flour.. Blend 30 seconds on low speed.. Stir in remaining flour and mix well by hand until smooth..
Cover and let rise in warm place for an hour or so..
Stir down batter and with a bit of olive oil place in a greased
bread pan.. Let rise until doubled..
Heat oven to 375 degrees F. and bake for 35 - 40 minutes..
Brush top with oil or butter..

I think that dill seed could be substituted for the caraway seed..

I served it to Terry with potato scallop, pork chops and peas..
I was thinking it would make lovely sandwiches or just served with butter, cheese and pickles.. hm mm...

Anyway here is another no knead bread which is so easy to make for your family...
I always use unbleached flour..

Well, have a good evening my dears..
Thanks for dropping by.. eh!

I love hearing from you all..

May God bless and keep you all ...

  3. You got a lot of mileage out of that old quilt! Keep working on Terry to paint that wood for sure. Can you use bread machine yeast in the same amount for your no knead bread?

Your bread looks delicious. I copied your reply to Shirlee for the chicken soup in your previous post...have to try that. I am seriously going to have to make my own "Faye Henry" book. I think I've went back and read all of your posts and you have so many wonderful recipes and other beautiful ideas...so happy I found your sweet blog.♥
    Take care, my friend!

  8. Hello Faye......What a nice collection of pewter you have! I love your stonework! Very nice. The old quilt is sure being put to good use. I like the looks of an old quilt on the back of the couch. The pillows are great, too.

Faye...by the time I get around to trying all of your wonderful recipes, I won't be able to find them on your blog! I think I need to buy a file box and title it "Faye Henry". Everything always looks easy and delicious. Do you have a big Kitchen Aid mixer?

Glad you feel better and Terry is home.

    Sweet Dreams, Sue

    1. Hi Sue... I was using my old mix master yesterday and thought to myself that perhaps I should have let Terry buy me a kitchen aid when they were on sale.. smile... I just keep thinking that I have done without one this long... grin..
Thanks to all of you for your sweet comments... Perhaps I should get a better plan so you could find the recipes, although the search engine helps some..
By the time I find my way around this computer it will be just like my mix master.. grin..
      God bless everyone..

    You inspire me :)

The couch cover and pillows turned out wonderfully, and I

  12. Hello there Lady...what a pleasant post...I can feel the warmth of your room.
Your thrift store quilt is somewhat like one I had a few years back and I sold it at a rummage sale. This was before I got heavy into crafting...gosh how I wish I had it back! The pillows and cushions you made look so comfy.
Sorry it has taken you so long to feel better...I'm thinking all of us who have had things hang on is because the weather just doesn't get cold enough to rid the germs!
    Blessings Faye,
    Karen

  14. Great post, I love to read your rambles. **grin** The quilt re-do makes a perfect set. Yes, what is it with men never wanting to paint wood????

  15. Good afternoon Faye, I am so glad you are finally feeling better! Love all the pewter on your mantle. Oh and the bread....sounds and looks delightful. And of course I know about men and their wood!!!!! Especially my man!! We just do the best we can and work around.

Have a wonderful weekend!! It is going to be sunny and cold here but no snow. Hard to believe it is february when I look out and see the lawn without any snow. I could get used to it!!

    Warm hugs!!

  18. Hello my dear friend,
I feel like I have just had a very nice visit with you! What a pretty room that it is, I love the pewter on the ledge and the fireplace with the star above is beautiful. I do know about men and their wood, God put it in the Male gene, I suppose, because very few women are like that and most men are!
The bread look delish! I made a homemade pizza yesterday with a no-knead bread, which I kneaded anyways! I can't help it, but it was very good. Made me want to make a couple of ww raisin loaves for my hubby, he would enjoy it so much. I'd better do it.
    Love and hugs, Cindy

  19. Good evening. I love all of that pewter! I know about men and their wood. When hubby and I got married, his home was dark paneling. It took a lot of work to convince him for us to paint it. :) The bread looks yummy! Thanks for the recipe! Have a great weekend. Glad you are feeling better!

  23. Goodness, you are so creative. I love the mantel and the pewter collection. Great idea for the quilt. It makes it go so much further and it works perfect for the back of the sofa and loveseat. The bread looks simply delicious but that's something that I've never tried. I think I'n a little intimidated by it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home.
