Friday Evening Treat...

Good Evening ..

Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..

Another weekend has rolled around.. Here in Eastern Canada we are having mild temps..
Not much green grass yet, though..
We did have a fire on this morning but we let it go out..

I thought I would share a recipe with you that is nice to have on hand...

Since it is Friday night and we are not going out I thought I would make us a treat..

It is a Brownie Mix...

I have had this for awhile written in one of my idea books..
I know I found it on the web but probably at least a year ago..
Before Pinterest.. smile..

Anyway...
You mix it all up and then make a pan when you want one..

BROWNIE MIX..
4 c. flour
6 c. sugar
3 c. cocoa (Some recipes say 2 1/2 c.)
4 tsp. baking powder
3 tsp. salt
2 c. shortening

I put this all in my kitchen aid..

Mix up really well..
Then store in a sealed type container..
I use a vintage flour canister..

As you can see it is almost full..

When you want to make up a pan..
Mix..
2 c. mix
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup of nuts or chocolate chips..
Combine and put in a greased 8 inch pan..
Bake in 350 degrees F.
20 minutes..

These are yummy..
Sometimes I spread chocolate icing on them or
serve them with a scoop of ice cream and a bit of Hersey's chocolate sauce...

What are you all doing this lovely evening?
Thanks for dropping by and for your lovely comments...

God bless..

Here is a little poem by one of my favorite poets..

Grace At Evening

For all the beauties of the day,
The innocence of childhood’s play,
For health and strength and laughter sweet,
Dear Lord, our thanks we now repeat.

For this our daily gift of food
We offer now our gratitude,
For all the blessings we have known
Our debt of gratefulness we own.

Here at the table now we pray,
Keep us together down the way;
May this, our family circle, be
Held fast by love and unity.

Grant, when the shades of night shall fall,
Sweet be the dreams of one and all;
And when another day shall break
Unto Thy service may we wake.

  4. Yum! I could go for a big bite of that treat right now! We have been giving excercize to our daughter's family's little dogs while the family is away. We have been babysitting......going to miss them when they go home tomorrow. But happy everyone will be back from Florida. It is suppose to rain tomorrow. Good, we will get some "inside" things done. Hope you and Terry have an enjoyable weekend.

  5. Hi, Faye:
Marvelous idea about the brownie mix. The Mister and I are both working on new projects tonight. We are in the "sketching" phase, just had vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce and a nice fresh cup of coffee. It is a tiny bit chilly tonight. We will be seeing temps in the 80's for the next few days. Some pruning of our shrubs, a batch of dog "muffins" for my grand dogs and a visit to my daughter and son-in-law's home this weekend, stitching for me and a cabinet job for hubba.
    Hugs,
    Susan

  10. Well after drooling over that picture, and deciding won't make that recipe because I would make it often! Last night on my Friday night my husband and I went to see "October's Baby". A gripping movie for all those who adopted, been adopted, had an abortion, or planning on having an abortion. A movie about love and forgiveness. I have am thankful I saw it!
