Keepers of the Home Mother's Day Breakfast..

Hello everyone..
So glad you dropped by today..
I hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day..

On Saturday the Keepers had a wonderful breakfast cooked for us by the men of our church..

We had a blessed time and so I thought I would share some pics with you and tell you about our day..

Just a few preparations..

Don't you love pansies ?
I decided that again this year we would have them for centrepieces...

They make quite a mess so this got done here at home..

Clay pots from the dollar store are great..
Just threw in a few stones for drainage on the bottom, mixed up a bit of Terry's secret mixture and planted them..

Terry and I took a drive and he picked some moss..
I love using this around all of my potted plants for the deck..
It helps keep moisture in and is free.. smile..

Then on Thursday evening a few of us met at the church and put together a few items..
We had such fun..

My dear Mom donated a lot of cups and saucers and we made bird feeders to pass out to each of the ladies..

The how-to is HERE
Just so you know ...
The E6000 glue is at Michael's and you can use your coupon...
Then Lindsay made little bird feed cheesecloth bags..
The ladies loved them..

Then a dear girl whose Mom comes to Keepers picked a bunch of
our Eastern Canada Mayflowers..

Thank you, Becky..
We made little posies with them..

Wrapped a bit of old lace around them and kept them in water until that morning..
Even the wee girls loved them..
And there was a poem for each lady about the Mayflower..

This sweet soul was our first guest..
My Mom...
Not a good quality picture.. sorry..

Coffee was on and everyone got acquainted.
And we checked out the Penny Auction goodies..

And then Mom prayed the blessing upon the food and we all dove in.. smile..

What delicious food the men made..

At each place was a fancy dish of fruit salad and there was ham, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, homemade jam, Belgian waffles, fresh strawberries and such..

My breakfast..
Looks good, eh?

What great waffles.. Yummmmm...

We had a lot of fun and there were some terrific buys..

The auctioneers were a hit..
A couple of them were doing a skit at the same time..
Thank you dear hearts..

We then had a wonderful speaker who gave us a marvelous message..
Very touching but with strokes of humor that had us in stitches..
We so enjoyed it and even the little girls listened to every word..

Thank you dear Pastor's wife..
The picture of her did not turn out..

We had lots of door prizes..

The little girls won wee peat pots of pansies and were given hair bands by *Joelle*..
Aren't they sweet?.

They didn't know each other when they arrived but were fast friends when they left..

And there was a bit of picture taking..

One of our crazy auctioneers and dear daughter..
So glad she was able to be there ..
Thankful for all of our guests.. smile..

God certainly blessed this sweet gathering..

It was so much fun but profitable in so many ways..

Sweet fellowship with other mamas and words of wisdom that caused us to remember our blessings..
Realizing that God has given us mothers the highest of callings..
That of being Mother to our children..
Not only feeding and clothing them but guarding them against the pitfalls of this old world..
Calling on God for their salvation and protection..

Teaching them to put God first in their lives..
This life is a temporal thing but eternity is forever..
We need to help them to prepare for what comes after this life..

We have to let them see that Mama believes in prayer and putting God first in her life..
Right?

All in all it was a great morning..

Thanks so much for your sweet visit..
Love your little notes that you leave..

Hope to have some interesting posts coming up..
We can live in hope anyway, eh?  grin..

Love you all..

Thinking of changes and a recipe for you..

Hello there ladies..

Just sharing a few pics of our old cottage that is patiently waiting for our soon return..
About another month and we will be getting ready for our Summer migration.. smile..

These pics were taken before in the month of May.

The shop is the little cottage and we need to get there and start getting it ready for the season..

We hope next week to head down that way..

I love the Bay of Fundy and will be happy to listen to the nightly waves and hear the wind blowing through the windows..

But for now I am enjoying still being home.
The wind is blowing here tonight, too..
There has been a bad forest fire over near our farm and we are praying they get it under control..
Three homes have been lost so far..
We really need rain..

I included a picture of an old house that is on the Bay and one of my favorites..
The dear girl who owns it lives in Ontario and is one of the sweetest people you could meet..
We see each other and just pick up where we left off.. grin..

There are many nice things about moving back for the Summer and she is one of them..
There are also a lot of dear friends and cousins, of course, that makes the cottage such a lovely place to be..

Another is our nightly drives..
We go most evenings..
Just wee drives sometimes with a sugar free cone and then end up parking along the waves you see there..
We roll down our windows and Terry puts his seat back..
Not me..
I sit up and watch the waves until I get sleepy and then we head home to our warm bed... smile..

Anyway..
I promised the little how to for the cinnamon buns..

The first pic is of the no knead bread recipe which is found
 HERE..

No Knead Cinnamon Buns..
All I made was half of the recipe for the pan you see..
If you need more then use the regular recipe.. OK?

I didn't measure but I will give you the idea..
Raise the bread the first time in the bowl and punch down..
Have some butter and I mixed about a half cup of brown sugar and a big spoon of cinnamon..
Then I made little rolls in my hand and buttered them with soft butter and rolled them in the cinnamon sugar and placed in a buttered tin..
Let rise until doubled..
Bake in a 350 degrees F. oven for only 25 minutes...
Check them at 20 minutes but it also depends on the size of the rolls. You may need longer ..

When they are cool drizzle some vanilla icing on the top..
A little butter creamed well, icing sugar, vanilla and a pinch of salt..
Add a tablespoon of milk at a time until you get a good consistency..
Hope you like them..
I don't believe there are many calories in them.. (rolled eyes)

Someone left a comment and wanted to know if I
made sticky buns..
I used to years ago but I haven't for ages..
I dearly love them and would eat way too many..
So I wait until we take a trip to a little town on the other side of the Fundy Trail in Alma and get a pan of theirs..
The best sticky buns in Canada..
Really..

Have a wonderful evening dear hearts..
Thanks for dropping by and leaving your little notes so I know you were here..
God bless..

Loving the Weekend..

Hello girls..
How art thou?
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend..

Our weather is simply glorious for over a week and still going..

My sweet husband has been very busy putting down new kitchen, family room, pantry, laundry room and hall floors...

What a time finding the one we liked that would suit our open concept here.
Then we finally picked something after several trips to the city to buy it and then had to go again to get more in case we didn't have enough..
Then the poor man spent quite a while planning on how to lay it and such just to start laying it and discovering a flaw... groan..

He then had to again carry out and load the truck with about 20 boxes of heavy flooring and return it to the hardware store..

Then we had to find another one we liked and repeat the whole
process..

Oh well..
It is about 1/3 done I would say..
This includes putting in new heat rads and cutting around all the stone on our fireplace which runs for a corner and one wall..
I love it, though, so I hope he thinks it is worth all the work..

I will be sure and share pics with you when we get there...

Now for the pics above..
They were taken Saturday as we again spent a day at the old farm..
Made some soup on the wood stove for lunch and enjoyed eating it along side of my current book..

Also baking some bread and having fun with it..
It is our no knead recipe found HERE..

We were expecting our son and family and so I thought I had best make something sweet..

As I mentioned before there are only limited pantry supplies so the cinnamon buns came to my mind..

I was sure there was a way to turn the bread into something sweet..
They turned out lovely..
Terry was even telling people at church yesterday how good they were..
If you are interested I will try and post the recipes next time..

The other rolls were great, too.

I saw the idea in an UK Country Home magazine but just used the same recipe.. Let it rise and then shaped it to fit a 9x13 pan. After it rises you just score it  and cover with poppy, cumin, fennel and sesame seeds and ground cumin..
The magazine mentioned that one shoud  brush milk on to hold the seeds there..
So good with soup..

There are also a few pics of thrift store finds that I found ..
A cast iron pan to match my tea kettle along with a rooster cushion and blueberry hot pad..

A new cook book from a favorite cook book line..
Moosewood Restaurant is in the state of New York and someday I hope to go there..
We go through New York every year or two so it is one of the points of interest that I think would be so much fun to do..

I love their cookbooks as they are mostly vegan but delicious and easy to make..
Not completely up Terry's alley mind you but certainly up mine..

He is still working on that far room in the kitchen picture..
It is our back porch and it seems like it has been taking years to finish.  We can't get the time to be there long enough to accomplish much..
All in good time, I guess..

The ceiling is all torn out and a new higher one is now in and the floor has been replaced with a new underlay.. We bought the flooring and that needs finished next and then the walls..
We are actually looking for a good second hand window to put at the back so we can see up into the hills at the back and another to replace the kitchen one...
Oh well.. All in good time, I guess..
Would you waste your time doing something like this?
A trip far away is probably something most people would prefer..
Takes all kinds, eh?
I do want to go to Newfoundland this year.. or next...

This week we are getting ready for our Keepers of the Home Mother's Day Breakfast..
The men of the church are cooking it for us..
Bless their hearts..
We are getting together Thursday night at the church in Salisbury to make favors, door prizes and centrepieces..
Should be fun..

Then Saturday at 9 am is the breakfast..
If you live near the Salisbury area here in New Brunswick then please feel free to join us..
Just email me at houseofhenry@hotmail.com and I can give you the details..
We are having a penny auction, too along with a lovely speaker...
We would all love to have you..

Thank you so much for your visit..
I hope you enjoy coming by as I love having you..

If I didn't hear from you then I would  not continue blogging but  you guys are great and leave your sweet comments so onward we go..
Thank you..

Welcome welcome to the new followers, too..
I find it hard to get the time to join many linky parties and such to get new followers so I really appreciate you girls who have found me and joined..
Very happy to have you..

I must go for tonight..
I think I got carried away and wrote too much.. sorry..

I hear my cousin's name being mentioned a lot on the hockey game again tonight..
He is Brad Marchand and plays for Boston Bruins..
A great Canadian lad..
I know I am bragging again.. grin..

God bless you all..

Sewing for the shop and recipes...

Hello my dears..

Such a beautiful Spring day here in New Brunswick..
The wind is blowing and it was a great day for laundry..
Please note our grass is getting green..
Remember we live in the north.. smile..

In between loads I did a bit of sewing..

Making a few primitive things..

Sewing bags with pockets for pin cushions..
A few ditty bags for lavender, buttons or such..
A crochet bag or two...
And something for myself...

A jean apron from an old pair of Terry's pants..
I use a lot of jean aprons this time of year ..

Great for painting, staining or planting herbs..

They are not very fancy but fills the bill for what I need..

I just cut it out of the jeans and at the bottom of the fly I sew
straight down and then make a little hem..
The apron strings are just seams from the side of the legs..
Not very fancy.. smile..

I just cannot work without an apron on and dislike ruining my better ones..

I thought you all might like a recipe tonight..
We like this for baked potatoes instead of sour cream..

Cream Cheese Potato Topper

1 package of cream cheese
1 clove of garlic or 2 minced
2 green onions minced
1 T. finely chopped parsley
a pinch of hot pepper flakes
kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
2 T. milk..
I mix it with a fork then use a whisk and cream well..
It is really good on a baked potato..
Lots more flavor, we think..
Do you ever make this?
Tonight's Supper..

Poached Haddock or Sole  (I forget which)
Buttered Peas with Onion.. (so good)
Just melt some butter in a small fry pan and add some sweet onion chopped and the amount of peas you need..
Slowly saute over medium heat until hot..
Don't over heat or you ruin them..
The only way we eat frozen peas now..
Baked Potato cooked in my potato baker that I picked up at a thrift store..
Did you know there was such a thing?
I can cook 3 potatoes in it and they taste a though I cooked them in the oven..
Wonderful for Summer..
And then of course our potato topper..
No dessert.. sigh...

Just though I would include a pic of our wee shop..

This is why I am sewing..
Trying to get a few things ready to sell in a month or so..

This spot is where I hope to put my working area..
Nice and bright ...

Oh, I wanted to share a grandson sweet moment..
This morning as I was making coffee I heard my cell phone..
When I checked there was a text from our ten year old grandson telling me to have a good day..
Isn't that dear?
I know..
Your grandchildren are just as lovely but this touched my heart... smile..

Hope you are all having a lovely week..
Thanks so much for your visit and sweet comments..

I hope you all come back soon..

Love and prayers..
Faye..

A daughter's day of Spring work..

Hello there everyone..
A little surprise for you tonight..

I think I had mentioned to you that I was hoping to get my daughter to do a little guest posting on here sometime..
She is rather busy like the rest of the world and we did not seem to get to it ...
When I was down last week and we were chatting she was mentioning all of the outside work she wanted to get done..
I suggested that perhaps she could just take some pics and email them to me and I would do my thing... smile..
So..
Today there were these pics in my email..
I tried to enlarge them and some are not great quality but you get the gest.. right?
She loves gardening which she inherited from both of her grandmothers..
I only like herb gardening..
I can't say I am fond of doing anything else in the garden although I love the preserving of whatever is grown..

Anyway..
As Spring is late here we still do not have much in the line of flowers but Shonda has a green thumb and later on in the Summer I will try to get you a few pics of her flowers and such..

Anyway the pictures you see here are just of her cleaning and redoing..

She made a mixture and wiped down everything first and then she started redoing and arranging for another summer..

Like some homemade vintage cushions and a quilt decorating her swing and I see she has painted some of her chairs again..
smile..

There is a collection of primitive birdhouses which are scattered from the front porch to the pool area and on each fence post..
The little building you see is the pool house and I wish she had taken some pics from inside as it is lovely..
Later on this summer I will try and take some..

Anyway, I thought this would be something different for you from my regular boring  stuff.. smile..

Shonda said she loved her day spent in the Spring sunshine..
So thankful for the blessings from the Lord..

As most of you know who have been reading this for ages is that in the Summers I drive a yellow Volkswagen Bug...

We always keep our cars until they are done..
So this is what I hope to do with mine in a few years..

Now this takes a green thumb..
But I think I would be up for the challenge..

I found this on the Internet ages ago.. I am sure it is on Pinterest somewhere, too..

Don't you love it..

I have been sewing for today so I will share that with you next time..

So glad you dropped by and thanks for your faithful comments..
Keeps me going..

You guys rock....
