Our Marilla's Table Meal...

Good Evening everyone...
How are you doing tonight?
Just doing a wee posting of a dinner Terry and I enjoyed..
I had been wanting to do it this winter and that season is almost over!
So finally, last weekend I got to it..

It was a meal inspired by Marilla of Anne of Green Gables..

A few years ago I took a cooking class over on P.E.I.
We had friends (Becky and Becca) visiting from Arkansas and we did the class together..

It was at an old rural church turned into a restaurant who put on the class for a day..
The restaurant is named The Table...
The meal we chose to be a part of that day was named ...
Marilla's Table...

It was so much fun..
We helped prepare a full course dinner and then we sat at a table that was as long as the sanctuary..  I believe it sat forty people..
The table was beautifully set with lovely dishes and napkins and such.
Then they had waiters who served us the meal we had helped with..
So much fun!

Anyway....
although this was several years ago I still am such a fan of Marilla..
I have watched many of the shows and always notice the table settings.

I was so excited to actually thrift 6 goblet type glasses just like she had on one of her tables..

So....
I decided to make a simple menu that she perhaps would have served..
Nothing fancy just ordinary Maritime food ..
We had Acadian Chicken Fricot..
Homemade White Bread
Homemade Dill Pickles
Homemade Butter
Aunt Henry's  War Cake
Tea..

Should have had some cordial but I actually just now thought of it.. ❤
The Fricot is very easy to make and delicious!
One of our fave meals, actually!
The flavouring is the herb Summer Savoury and lots of chicken, carrots, celery, onions and potatoes..
Then topped with dumplings..

And..

Homemade White Bread...
And dill pickles I made in the fall..
Homemade butter made from whipping cream using my Kitchen Aide.

Marilla's table settings are always old dishes...

This is a dish from one episode where she is using Flow Blue dishes..
My fave...

So... I decided to use my Flow Blue..
Several of these pieces are from my great Aunt Emily..
The soup tureen is one from her.
But I have been collecting it for quite some time...

He is such a dear to always humour me in my shenanigans..

I appreciate that because I am always coming up with some idea or another.. 😏❤

I am not much of a dumpling fan... 😘

I think he enjoyed the meal especially when it came to the dessert..

He has been after me to make another one since..
Very old fashioned...

I found this recipe on line somewhere..
I thought it was Little Women but I am not sure..
I thought it was sweet that it was named Aunt Henry's.
Appropriate... lol..

Here are some of the recipes for you...

Acadians are a very big part of the Maritimes and their recipes are always delicious..

please excuse terrible writing..
you can use butter instead of magarine..

Some lovely tulips that brightened our days and says Spring is on her way...

Well, dearies this is all for tonight..
I hope you enjoyed this post which is a bit different from the usual daily life ones..

I wanted to say how much I so love your comments..
I tried replying to the actual post comments but realized that most of them are not going back to the comment writers because it is an anonymous selection..
I need to come up with a solution to this..

But thank you...
I love reading them all on Instagram and the Facebook page as well as here on the blog..
I can respond to Instagram and Facebook..

I also wanted to say hi to a lady who took the class with us from the U.S.
Joyce K
She has been so faithful reading and sharing my posts..
Thank you, dear Joyce ...

Hope all is well in your part of the world dear friends..
Tomorrow is the Lord's Day...

We are so blessed in this country to have the freedom to go to our dear little church and worship Jesus together with our brothers and sisters in Christ..
If you live in our area we would love to have you go with us..
On Sunday mornings at 10:30
We can worship and receive such encouragement and peace there..

Where some of you live you probably have blossoming flowers and such but this is actually how it is here today ..
Snow and slush and typical Canadian March weather..
Oh well..
I am not rushing anything .. lol..

Love to you all and may God bless you richly..
Try to trust in Him and make Him the priority in your life..
He is just so awesome...
Hugs...

  1. Faye, even commenting on a blog these days from an iPad is hopeless I find. I even have to approve a reply I make on my own blog. I love your post. The Anne of Green Gables is a favourite of my grandchildren who like the old movies etc.
