Another week of Ramble and Roll Post..

Canning for a new Generation, Irish Pantry..
Good Evening dearies..
How are you all doing?
We are having a lovely week of warmer temps and it seems to be a great time to get some outside work done..
Terry has been at the wood lot cutting wood and putting more in the wood room all week..
I hope to get the windows cleaned tomorrow as next week is to be cooler..

I think this post will be a ramble and roll sort of one..
Again... sorry..
I received these two cookbooks and they are lovely..
From Amazon.. The Irish Pantry
From Chapters... Canning for a New Generation..
I am enjoying going through these cookbooks..

On with the story..
This is a pic of my treat meal..

Everyone is trying to watch what they eat and as a senior I am trying to be healthier..smile..
But...
Once a week I have something I love and this one wins out almost every time..
Pasta and Shrimp..
What would your treat meal be??

Rambling along here..
Terry peeled 50 pounds of squash and I cooked it up, mashed and bagged it all for the freezer for the Winter..
What is your process for freezing squash?
Some bake it but I boil it...

We are saving the seeds for next year...

Drying and putting away..

Here is a delicious soup that we had this week..
My sister gave me some recipes in a gift bag and this one was mixed in with them...

Dr. Smiley Soup..
1 cup rice, uncooked (not instant)
3/4 gallon of chicken stock
2 tsp. black pepper.. ( I only used 1/2 tsp.)
1 tsp. celery salt
1/2 tsp. paprika
salt to taste..Not a lot of salt is needed..
6 eggs
4 stalks green onion..
In a large pot boil rice in chicken stock until soft and beginning to break up..  Add seasoning.. In bowl mix eggs well and pour slowly into boiling soup mixture.
Simmer for 30 minutes ..
Just before serving add chopped green onions..
Serves 4 - 6...
Tip..
This egg drop soup recipe was shared by an Asian friend who relies on this dish to relieve cold and flu symptoms ..
He believes pepper is the key..

There you go ...
I only made half of the recipe for us and found it very good..

Rolling along here..
I am preparing to have a table at the Mission Point Craft Sale and have been pottering along doing up preserves to sell..

Here are some more Old Fashioned Pumpkin Preserves with cloves...

Tuesday night we went to Bible Study..
Such awesome teaching of the Word of God..

It was so nice one day this week that we went Rose Hip gathering..

We always go to the same place...

Some things I do with rose hips..
1..Make a lovely face oil..
YouTube  recipe here..
2..Rose Hip Syrup and Jelly..
3..Dry for crafts and potpourris..
4..Freeze some for Rose Hip Tea..
Don't freeze or store them in a metal container..

Rose Hips are very good for you...

As we were near the farm we decided to go and fill our water jugs with the Spring water we love..
We arrived there to find we had some sweet company waiting..

Our youngest son, Dustin..

He and his Dad were happy to see the work that has been done in the fields..

Trees cut down and all ploughed up ..
More pasture land for the cattle..
Dustin loves the old farm almost as much as his Dad.. grin..
We had a nice visit and then we all headed home for supper..

Then last night we made Bone Broth...

Our oldest son gave us a bunch of bones..
They simmered until 2:30 this morning and then Terry turned it off.. The dear man..
Today, I just skimmed off the fat and put it through a sieve and ended up with 8 delicious quarts of organic broth ...
Thanks, Trev..

I will use it to make a soup like this one we had for lunch yesterday but I used Chicken broth and wild rice ...
And Bok Choy...

I think I have rambled and rolled along enough..
One final preserve that is finished..
I sold and ate all of the ones I made earlier in the Fall so made another batch of Hot Mixed Veggie Pickle yesterday..
Love these ...

I hope you girls who live nearby can attend the Craft Show in St. John at Mission Point Church on Mark Drive on Nov. 28..
I will be having a Mason Jar Table..
Everything in Mason Jars from preserves, potpourries, aprons, soup herbs, salves, dips and such...

There will be lots of crafts there and all, too..
I will post some pics on the Face Book page later...

Thank you, dear hearts for your sweet visits..
I love your comments and will try to answer any questions and please know that I appreciate each and everyone of you..

God bless you and your families..
Hugs..

Craft Show and Apple Potpourri Recipe..

Hello my dears...

Well, Winter has arrived in the Maritimes..
Snow is here and to stay by the looks of things..
I wish I loved snow but alas I do not..
Oh well..
I don't want to live in Florida, either so I guess I will just have to like it, eh?

Last week I prepared for the little craft show with our daughter..

I made some Patchouli, Lavender and Rosemary soaps..

And Apple Potpourri..

You can make your own..
It is very easy and so perfect to have for yourself or to include in some Christmas gifts..
On a good day try to gather some pine or spruce cones or such..
There is all kinds of things growing that you can collect even if there is snow on the ground..
Anything you can find that would dry and go in a potpourri..
Gather some rose hips and dry them in a dehydrator or even in your oven on a low temp for several hours..
You can put your cones in the oven, too..
Add some bay leaves from the Bulk store..
A handful of whole cloves and allspice and even anise..
Dry some apple slices and add them all together in a large bowl..
Break up several cinnamon sticks, too..
Purchase some apple oil from Walmart or a health food store..
I used one called Macintosh from Winterwood in Sussex..
Add some orrisroot if you can or some other kind of carrier...
Cover with plastic wrap for a week or so and then stir it all together..

I posted a recipe for a Winter Potpourri HERE...

Anyway..
We got up at 5 am and headed to St. John for the sale..
We were early for once in our lives and arrived even before our daughter.. grin..
Here was her booth when we walked in..

Her father is standing there trying to take it all in..
We were very happy to see how creative she is.. smile..

This was the church table...

A lot of ladies donated a lot of beautiful things..
This was all for Missions...
The money for the table rentals and these lovely crafts all went towards the cause..

Here is one of the Keepers of the Home who attends our church..

She along with her children do beautiful work..
Painted signs, decorated trees, toffee and such..

And I guess that is me behind this table..

With my potpourri..

Soaps..

Peppermint Lemon Foot Soaks and Peppermint Foot Powders..
Between the Sheets Lavender Powder, pickles, burlap bags and such..

Our sweet girl...

She kind of hinted that she would like this for purse for Christmas..
smile

We are doing our Homespun Christmas and as this was a purse that was not new but done by Martha so it fit the bill..
Lovely, eh?

And this is one of my customers who has been buying from me for twenty some years..
Needless to say, she is now a treasured friend..

Judy..
She is so pretty...

All in all it was a lovely lovely day..
So much fun doing this with our daughter and so seeing so many friends and even my cousin...

Shonda is a nurse who has retired for a while and I don't think she can believe how much she enjoyed doing her creative thing..
Everyone was saying she was so much like someone else they knew.. grin..

Afterwards we went to our cottage where Terry did a few more chores..
The Bay was beautiful..
And that was that..

Shonda gave me this gorgeous pillow she made..

JINGLE...
She said it was payback time.. grin..
I love it..

I know one thing ..
I am very glad to be retired and not doing craft shows ..
This old gal cannot cut the mustard anymore..
I have been exhausted for two days..

Thanks so much for visiting the Blessed Hearth tonight..
I need to apologize to you for not posting about the sale..
I did it on Face Book and just didn't get to my blog..
I think I thought that I had done it when I hadn't..
My mind is not what it was, either..
Sorry, Ann..

May God bless you all..

The Closing Days of October...

Hello once again my friends..
Hope all is well with you ..

What lovely days we are having here in the Maritime provinces of Eastern Canada..
Flowers are still in bloom and we only need to wear sweaters..
There have been a few colder days but this has been one beautiful Fall..
Thank you, Lord..

But.... they are calling for snow on Sunday..
Quite a bit by the sounds of it all but mostly in the northern part of our province so we will no doubt get rain..
I hope so anyway..

I do not look forward to Winter..
We have children who need to get to work no matter what the weather if you know what I mean..

At least, Terry is no longer traveling 30 miles to work..
One advantage of being retired... smile..

Now..
I want to show you a lovely gift that my Mom gave me..

That is my breakfast early this morning..
Dark toasted bread with mayo, tomato and sprouts..

When I went over to make my coffee I noticed that the sprouts were ready..  smile..
And even though it was still a bit dark outside and much earlier then when I usually have my breakfast I couldn't resist..
So...
I had this with a wonderful hot cup of coffee with milk..

We haven't had sprouts since Spring but now is when we start eating them again..

Anyway..
This is the gift Mom surprised me with..

A three layer sprouter..

Neat, eh?
I had not seen one like this before..
And it only took 3 days...
Tonight they are even bigger..

I love it...
I think she bought it at the auction they go to each week.. smile..
She is a good Mama.. smile..
So thankful for her..

I think I will share a little funny story that happened tonight..

She had phoned me and left a message saying she wanted the recipe for making Naturism Vinegar..
I had helped her make it earlier in the Fall but she could not remember how to do it and her hubby had picked the rest of her Naturism so she could make more as she had given hers all away..

I gave her a call and she was telling me she had company this afternoon and she was showing them the vinegar she had made earlier and how impressed they were..

It has been a joke between us for years of how whenever I show her how to make something she doesn't let on to her friends that she learned it from me.. grin..
Honestly, I do find it so funny..
She will just go on and tell them that she knows how to make rose powder, rosemary salt and flavored vinegar or whatever..
I will laugh and ask her if she told them your daughter showed you how to do it..
She says that she just tells them that she does it and then we both start to laugh..
I don't know why we think it is funny but we do..

Anyway, today her company loved the look of her vinegar (it is a pretty orange color) and asked her for the recipe..
Oh dear..
She couldn't remember how to do it.. LOL..

I said to her that they must have thought it was funny that she made it but couldn't remember how.. LOL..
Poor Mom..
We must have laughed for 5 minutes..

After that I told her again and I am sure another bottle has already been created.. smile..

Today I made bread...
It is the first time for a couple of months..
I have not been eating much bread at all but when the sprouts were ready  I couldn't help myself.. smile..

Homemade bread, mayo and sprouts are simply delicious or so I think..
This is pure hippy food.. grin..

I posted on sprouting..

So...
On with the story..

As I mentioned in another post I have decided to have a table at a Christmas craft show that Shonda is involved in at her church..
It is on November 15 in St. John...
I will give more details if anyone wants them..

With that in mind I have begun...
I am not doing all crafts but a mixture of things..
Apple things..

Homemade Apple Jelly
which is not tagged yet..

Homemade Old Fashioned Apple Butter..
not tagged, either.. yet...

Lemon Peppermint Foot Soaks..

which needs tags and such also..

Tomorrow, Lord willing, I plan to make Lavender and Rosebud Soaps..
and
Between the Sheets Lavender Powder
and
so on and so on.. smile..

Well, dear hearts this is all for tonight..
So thankful for your lovely comments and such wonderful emails..
I so appreciate hearing from you..
It makes blogging a pleasure.. truly...

God bless you dear girls..
