A Day in May Posting...

Hello there!
How are you all doing in your part of the world?
All is well here in New Brunswick, Canada..
It is a simply beautiful Spring day here!
The sun is shining and it is the Sabbath..
God has provided and protected us and we are indeed blessed...
It seems that things are getting better here in our province..
Our world has changed not only here but everywhere...
Terry and I are striving to stay safe and be accountable..
While doing this we are really doing less going to and fro and keeping to home and hearth much more then normal..

We do go to the farm a bit..
Have a few meals ...
I think he was hungry.
Sent this pic to our son in Alberta today..
He messaged back.... Good eats!
Bless his heart!
This mama wishes he were here so she could do the same for him..
Just pork chops, mashed potatoes and fried sauerkraut..
And a salad with homemade dressing..
Terry did two buckets of sauerkraut this past winter and it is good!
Old fashioned meals!
smile..

Trying to get our gardens organized and ready..
It has been quite cool here right now but this week is forecasting higher temps..
We were out the other day and I did my herb beds..
It always tickles me silly to see my Lavender plants all back for the second year and some for the third..
The Lovage, Comfrey, Oregano, Chives, Catnip, Thyme and Tarragon are a few that always return...
Our garlic came up lovely also..
Thanking the Lord..
There were several that I had put in pots and wintered and they survived..
Rosemary, Sage, Parsley, more Thyme and I repotted 7 pots of Basil today...
Can ya tell that I love herbs? grin..

Anyway on with the post..

Winding down one evening on our way home..
We worked on the beds and just had a quick lunch..

Terry's version of a hot dog..

And mine of soup...

This is a lovely soup..
Or I think so..
It is called Emergency Soup by Marion Cunningham..
It is in this cookbook..
1 chopped carrot
1 chopped rib of celery
1 chopped medium onion
4 cups of chicken broth..
1 cup of small shell or other type pasta
1 cup Parmesan cheese.. or less
Bring broth to boil in a pot.  Add veggies and
simmer for 15 minutes and then add pasta..
Simmer another 10 minutes or less till pasta is cooked..
Season with salt and pepper.
Serve and sprinkle on some parm..
Delicious and quick..
We haven't moved out to the farm yet for the summer..
Probably be a bit yet but when I can I potter a bit in the pantry.. smile..

As you know we have been celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary in a rather different style..
We planned this before Covid-19 really was a threat..
We started in January and trying to do some form of celebration each month..
I am not a party person.. Well, not for myself I mean..
So ..
Each month had brought some sort of fun thing to do..
I am always so happy to go to the Bay of Fundy..
So last month we went to the world famous Rocks....

It was mostly closed off but we found a wonderful area with a bench right at the beach's edge..
It was a lovely day!
I brought this guy along.. smile..

With his covid whiskers.. grin..
We didn't attempt a selfie this time as we did the last one..
Just one of each other..

As you dear girls know who have been around awhile that I do not like my pic taken.. Anyway.. We need pics to remember.. smile.. Not really.. smile..

Another lovely place down there ..

Antiques shop..
Miss them and thrift stores..
That is all..
I am so weird.. grin..
And these were my lovely flowers..

Aren't they gorgeous?
And the ruffled ones smelt heavenly..
I had to add this pic of my beloved with no whiskers..
Our daughter looks just like him.. smile..

Now onward we go..
A few make and do things..

Lavender and Rose Air Freshener..
More Sanitary Wipes.. So great!
And I love the Hair Rinse.. Lavender and Cider Vinegar..

And..
A new note book..
Covered a steno pad for my daily list book for May...
Have done a bit more I think but sorry no pics..
Making buntings for here at home and such..
Oh and the dearest egg cups with sprouts growing..
Actually, I will try to take a pic later on in the week and just post them..
How's that?  grin..
No long posting... Just a few pics..

As usual.. I just keep rambling..
Here is a bit of baking that got accomplished..

NY Times No Knead Bread...
And picked Dandelion greens a few times..

The Rhubarb is coming along nicely so jam has to be made this week..
It is our favourite...

Chocolate Chip Cookies with Walnuts were baked and  frozen once again..
I love these so have to freeze them! smile..

And a cake....

Love white cake with white icing..
Yes, it found it's way to the freezer also!

And one windy rainy day I made biscuits..

Our daily biscuit.. The recipe is on the blog here..
And with Rhubarb Jam..
That recipe is on here too..
My Mom's Rhubarb Jam..

We had Mother's Day..

Met some of our family carside at the mall..
Smile...
Love my children as you do your's... smile..
Hope you all enjoyed your day..

I didn't want to close without adding a pic of a book I am reading..

Rather nice..
I love the old days.. smile.

Well dear hearts, I hope this has found you all safe and finding joy in your days..
It is something we choose.. eh!

In this rock and roll world we are living in right now I think we need to focus on a daily closer walk with our Lord..
As the Psalmist says...
He is the lifter up of my head..
Everything is going to be all right!

So thank you so much for visiting tonight and may God richly bless you..
as always, I look forward to your dear notes and emails and Facebook messages..
God bless..

These days of March....

Happy Weekend my dears..
Friday has rolled around again already..
The weeks are flying by and we here in New Brunswick go from storm to storm each week..
Oh well..
We are looking forward to Spring days although there is not a lot of snow as we have had in the past..
Just no tulips or daffodils growing outside yet..
But the market has them and they sure do cheer up a stormy week..

So pretty...
The days have been a full of comings and goings and a bit of doings..

Made a bit of bread and an apple pie..
I am not a pie maker like my Mom..
She is an expert..
I used to make 30 pies at a time to freeze but have lost the touch as far as rolling out the dough..
Terry thought it tasted good but I was not that happy with it..
I divided the Cinnamon Raisin Bread dough into two loaves..
One with raisins and one without..
The link is HERE..

Then we made a little road trip to Sussex.

We have a bit of snow but nothing serious..
It is a pretty drive which you who have followed the blog has seen pics of every season, I think.. smile..

We came home to a one of our chickens which we raised at the farm..
All cooked and ready to go..

I just had to make the Couscous and boil some potatoes..

It was so delicious!!
Here is the link is HERE

My dear hubby had mashed potatoes.. As you are aware he is just not too adventurous.. grin..
He liked the roasted chicken with the lemon and crushed fennel seeds but asking him to eat Couscous with olives just was not happening.. It was not a lot of work so we had both..

A little teapot I picked up at the Thrift..
It did not have a handle but when I was cleaning out the pantry I found one on the top shelf...Fitted perfectly..
Love green Depression glass..
Do you?  I actually love pink also although I gave most of mine to Shonda..

Looking through the mint to a snowy day out there..

Dear old Charlie is wondering why I have been taking his pic so often lately..
I told him to blame Penny.. smile..
She is a sweet follower who enjoys pics of Charles..
Here he is when he was just a baby..

Cute, eh!!

Still making biscuits here and there..

So nice on a snowy afternoon with a cup of tea and Rhubarb jam...
Recipe HERE

Just found this lovely cookbook on my bookshelves..

One of my favourite cookbook authors..
Marion Cunningham..
I had bought it awhile ago and kind of forgot about it..

Terry brought me up a grocery bag of tomatoes that I froze last fall..

Such a great way to put away tomatoes for a day when you are not so busy as one is in the autumn..
A nice winter's afternoon is a great time to do up a big pot of tomato soup..
Just hold them under a hot water tap and they peel so easily and they taste wonderful..

Made a Chicken Pie for supper..
It was very tasty..
The recipe was in Marion's cookbook above..
Sorry about all the cooking going on here this post..
I guess it is all I have for tonight..

I am about finished...
Tis evening..
Time for this old gal to go to bed..
I love to read a bit every night and the bedding has all been changed and smells like Gain..
The window will be open and the wind is blowing..
Terry found the right spot for my new wind chime.. grin..
I would say that all is well and God has been faithful!
So appreciate Him tonight..

Thank you sweet friends for dropping by the Blessed Hearth another time...
I do look forward to your sweet comments and thank you so much to the new followers and likes on the Face Book page..
We are now over 500..
I don't worry about the numbers but it is a bit rewarding so thank you ...

May God bless and keep you and your sweet families..
Enjoy your time with them..
Tis fleeting..

Weekending..

Hello there everyone..

A wet and windy night here in New Brunswick..

It has been quite a day as far as weather goes..
Traffic has come almost to a standstill in many parts of our province as the RCMP have closed major highways and cars are lined along the roads for miles waiting for the ice to be salted or whatever..
We headed for Moncton this morning but only went a couple of miles when we turned around and came home as the road was just a glib...
Many accidents and vehicles were off of the roads everywhere..

There are videos of kids skating on the roads and some people not able to even stand up..

If you can imagine my Mom and husband (83 years old)  went to St. John this morning and did not get home until tonight..
This is over a two hour trip from their house..
They returned home safe but could not get up their long lane and had to have someone drive them to their door and practically carry my mom into their house..
So thankful I did not know what they were about.. smile..
And thankful to God for safe travelling mercies..

Anyway..
We have been having a good weekend regardless...
Had some sweet visitors for supper...
Their request as always..
Fried Rice, Meatballs and Salad...
You would think they would get tired of it but they haven't yet..
Dustin called up and wanted to know if this was the
House of Henry and if our rice was on sale..
Buy one and get one free??.. grin..
Funny lad, eh?
As you can see in one of the pictures it is the bacon they love.. grin..

Did some baking as they were coming..
Golden Raisin Breads and Apple Pies..

Terry was so happy as Veronique brought a wonderful dessert..
Chocolate Lasagna...
It was simply delicious..
She is quite the little cook.. smile..

They bring their puppies which have grown so much..
Such well behaved dogs..
Charlie and Peanut..

We all spent some time trying to figure out a puzzle that they had given Grandpa..
We couldn't do it but bless his heart Grandpa figured it out..We were all shocked.. grin..

We had a new salad dressing that I found Here...
It is very good and excellent with a Chinese Salad..
To make a salad more Chinese I add carrots, mushrooms, bean sprouts, celery, pea pods and such to the lettuce..

Well, my dears that is all for tonight..

I pinned an interesting YouTube to my Pinterest..
You can find it HERE..
Something to think about as the Israeli Leader has passed away..

Thank you for your visit and taking the time to leave me your notes..
I appreciate it and thanks for your soup ideas last post..

God is faithful...
Hugs..
