Saturday night Rundown..

Hello there dear hearts..
Thank you so much for dropping by the Blessed Hearth tonight..
It is Mother's Day weekend here..
The above pic is of my Mom when she was only about 16 or so I think..
Wasn't she sweet and so young..

I love this pic of her..

You can almost see her personality here..
Bright and cheery..
Very thankful for my Mom and so blessed to still have her in our lives..
She scares us a lot, though..
Today she had to go to emergency because she cut her leg on a chair and needed 6 stitches..
She is fine though..

Here is a little rundown of the last few days..
Spring time chores that we love..
Getting those towels out on the line and then smelling their sweet fragrance when we use them..

Trying something new that I was inspired by my friend, Anne to make..

Zuke Noodles..
With Chunky Tomato Sauce.

These noodles were good but they are not pasta but a wonderful substitute if you are so prone to be healthy which I need to do much more often..
I have cut my pasta intake to only a couple of times a week but it is very difficult...
Just sayin' !.. lol..

I took a pic of some books lying on my end table beside my chair..
Yes, I read every old Beatrix Potter book I come across..

Another favourite author is Louis L'Amour..
I had a huge stash of these that was in a big plastic bag and taken to the basement..
I can read some books a few times but do you think I could find them..
I thought I had lost them somehow by being thrown out by mistake by you know who ... grin..
Blamed him in my mind for a couple of years and then the other day I was looking through a big bookcase he had built in the basement a several years ago and lo and behold there they were..
Someone (probably me) took them out and I didn't know or remember.. Whatever.. But the lost is found..
Thank you, Lord.. smile..
And then there is my Promise Book that I use so often..

This is what hubby loves to do..
News, news, news and more news..

The evenings are getting so much longer..
So happy about that..
Don't you love the Spring?
Our house is filled with plants..
Did a big bucket of herbs for my Mom today for her gift along with a wreath..

On Friday we went to the farm for my first farm day this year..
I can't believe it has taken so long for me to actually get there and stay for the day.. It has been so damp but now it is lovely..
Terry worked at stuff and I started the cleaning..
Dishpans full of dishes and cupboards and counters and such all have to be washed..
We had a few winter borders but now they are kaput.. smile..

Later in the afternoon we visited some dear friends in Hillsborough..
I so love going there..
They own this adorable cat...
Bobby..
We should have had him visit the farm this winter.. grin..
Oh well..
That is what you expect in an old country house.. So long as they are gone ...

This is our friend's stairwell..
Isn't that beautiful!
Love the bookcase and the staircase is gorgeous..
What a beautiful old home..

Here are some of their plants..
They have a Cactus that belonged to their grandmother..
Can you imagine!
They are my age so it has been a few years..

Another little gathering on their buffet..
Such lovely antiques..
I am always in my glory when we visit..
Terry laughs and says that it makes me happy and it does..
Don't you love it when you visit kindred spirits..
Tea and homemade blueberry muffins and a visit to the piano room..
Glorious...
And..
They have cows..

So nice!
Thank you Laura and Kathleen!

Then this morning I headed for the farm as Terry wanted to go to an auction in Sussex..
I still have so much cleaning to do so away I went..
Picked up a Tim's coffee and went to work..
Accomplished quite a lot..
(still so much to do)  It took me 1 1/2 days just to clean the cupboards and everything in them.. I am so slow...
We do not expect to move up for a few more weeks so hopefully I will be finished..
Anyway..
The dear man decides to come up too and walks in with a bag of these for my Mother's Day gift..

We sat down and ate them right away..

He also brought me a bag of Spring garlic that will be ready in the Fall..
He said I would like what was in the paper bag better then the lobster.. lol.. He was right!
Love lobster but I was so disappointed that the garlic we planted in the Fall all froze..
We needed to cover them and I had not done my research..
But now I will have them anyway...
Next time we will mulch or whatever one does..

Here is my new farm journal...
Found it at the Thrift store..

Terry had to take all of the leftover wood on the stoop back to the wood pile..
Several loads.. Poor guy..
The boards there are for my hen houses and such..
Yeah!

Well my friends this is all for this evening..

Spring has arrived and our lawn is green again!
Dandelion jelly, Rhubarb Jam and Fiddleheads in the works for next week...

Do you make any of these?

So glad to chat with you again!
As always, I love your notes...
Have a blessed lovely Mother's Day!

God bless.

For you created my inmost being,
you knit me together in my mother's womb..

A Motley Post...

old barn in Bloomfield

Hello dearies..
Just a little post for you of the last few days...
We have been having a bit of weather here in Eastern Canada..
Snow, freezing rain and then sun...
Must be Winter, eh?

Anyway..
A friend and I were invited to a lovely girl's home for dinner..
She is one of the Keepers of the Home group and is from Romania...
We were so happy to be invited to her lovely home..
She made us a marvellous meal..
Delicious home made Rolls..
Polenta and Soup...
You put a big scoop of the polenta in your soup and take a taste of both together..
So yummy..
So sweet of her to take the time to create all of this...
And then a Chicken Dish...
Lots of tender chicken and veggies...
The broth on this dish was so good and the bread soaked it up so nicely.. smile..

Then we did have a dessert which I forgot to take a picture of..
A glorious trifle..
All chocolate and caramel...
Mmmmmm..
Then we spent a couple of hours just chatting...
Carmen is so talented and showed us some of her handwork..
Beautiful....
She showed Lindsay how to make a scarf just while we sat about and chatted..

Rather nice, I think..
We had a blessed time talking about the Lord and His goodness to us..
How he leads our lives and fills us with joy..
Amazing how lives cross each other..
Romania or Canada we serve the same God and are apart of His family...
Thank you, Carmen and to your sweet family, also..

Then on Friday night we had some sweet company here for supper..

My Mom and Step-Father..
She brought me a bag of parsnips and a bag of lemons.. grin..

I have been making a drink each morning before eating anything..

A handful of parsley and juice from a lemon which I roll on the counter to get it juicy..
Place these along with a half of a cup of water in a blender or such..
The taste isn't great but not too bad..
It is supposed to help one lose weight..
Do that for 5 mornings then take a 10 day break before you do it again...
I saw this on the web somewhere...

Terry and I took a drive to our cottage on Saturday..
I had seen the weather and thought it was only 4 cm. of snow so could not be too bad..
But the further we went the worse it got...
We had stopped in Sussex for a coffee and Terry is driving along this windy slippery road..
It does not look like it in the photo but it was snowing then freezing rain and windy..

Please note that the driver does not have 2 hands on the wheel...
Nope ...
A one handed driver..
Just what every nervous old lady wants... lol..
What can one do but hang on tight and pray..

We finally arrived in St. Martins, though..

After checking the cottage.. ( the poor old place always looks so desolate in the winter) we drove down to the harbour..

I just can't imagine being out on the Bay in a fishing boat on a day like this but I am sure there were some..

Quite a day out..
Loved the wind, though..

We brought along a little snack to have with our coffee..
I love making a little simple lunch and taking it with us..
Do you ever do that?

Here is a project that I hope to get under way this week..

You dear followers who have been faithful down through the years may remember me making this a couple of years ago..
Well, I sold it at my shop and think I would like another for myself..

I saw this in the British edition of Country Living..
I think I will do it in reds and such...

Anyway, dear hearts this is all for tonight..
Just a motley post about a our days...
Nothing very exciting but busy just like everyone else..

A little catch up for you, though before I go..
How I make hair rinse..

2 tablespoons of cider vinegar with 1 cup of water..
Place in a squeeze bottle and add a few drops of essential oil to suit you..
I wash and rinse my hair and then squeeze some of this in ..
Rub through my hair and put a towel about it..
I do not rinse it out but that is up to you...
Lavender is lovely or Rosemary ...
I used Patchouli this time..
It is supposed to help your hair thicken and helps it to stay healthy..

Also..
You asked for my Chicken and Wild Rice recipe..
I don't have a recipe but will make it again this week and try to write down what I do...
Ok?

If I forgot to answer any of your questions then please just remind me..
I am kind of forgetful lately.. smile..

Looking forward to hearing from you..
Either here on the blog or on the Face Book page.. xo

God bless you all..

Friends and Chocolate Cake and such..

Good Evening, my dears..
I expect you thought I was taking a trip or something as I have not posted on here for a bit but alas I have just not been very creative in the blogging department..
We have been enjoying our summer, mostly..

The weather has finally turned summerlike for the past several weeks and it has been extremely hot up home so we are blessed to be here by the Bay..
The temps are warm but the breeze keeps it from stifling, if you know what I mean..

Last week we enjoyed the company of some very dear and long time friends..
They even brought chocolate cake and such..
They had their trailers over at the camp ground and dropped by most days..
So nice to have friends who just pick up where we left off and we just kept on going.. smile..

Of course, it is pickle time and Terry and I did up 100 pounds of cucumbers...
Lots of mustard, of course and these below are a new recipe I am trying..

Cumin pickles..
One of my all time favorite spices..
I think I will like them but not dear hubby..
Bread and Butter are more his style..

I also tried some Curry ones but I do not think they will be a success..
They all floated to the top for some reason.. Oh well..

A little Shamrock plant growing on the old kitchen window sill..

A couple of days ago we went home as I had to go to the doctor..

Having a few knee problems which is the pits...
Old age has a few negative factors, shall we say.. smile..

I had wanted to go home around about way so we did..

Here are a few pics for you of good old New Brunswick..

This was through Hampton, Belleisle  and Sussex..
Such beautiful cottage country and lovely farms...

While we were home we went to check out that all was well at the farm and Terry took a little walk back to the brook..

I tried to catch a pic of him climbing that fence but he was too fast for me.. grin..

Slept in our waterbed for a couple of nights and it was lovely but we headed back here to the cottage today...

It was rainy when we started out but by the time we did a bit of shopping and such it was sunny here and much cooler then home..

I see our view of the bay is changing..

Notice the Goldenrod growing there..
Fall is on it's way, I guess..

I think this was one of the shortest summers in history since we bought the cottage 20 years ago..
Seems like it anyway..
The Spring was so rainy and cold and we were late getting here..
You know..
Yada yada yada..

I do love Fall but am not looking forward to Winter..

I was listening to a Christian radio station on my way home from the doctor's yesterday and the speaker was talking about the world and all of the nasty situations that are going on ..
Then he said but we can wake up with JOY  in our hearts because we have Christ living there and no matter what comes or goes He remains the same..
It was such a lovely reminder of something that I know but I need to make a deliberate decision to start my day each morning with JOY in my heart ...
Bad knee or not.. grin..

God bless you sweet readers..
I appreciate each and everyone of you...
I left the recipe such as it was for the soup on the last post in the comments section..

Thanks for visiting and sending hugs your way..

Catching up..

Hello everyone..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..
Hope all is well with you dear ladies..

We are having wonderful Spring like weather here in the Maritime Provinces.. I only wore a sweater today when we went into the city as it was so warm..
Snow is melting and the wind is blowing and we even had a bit rain today..

Yesterday, I had a couple of friends in for lunch..
It was great catching up as we have not been together for awhile..
Lots of talking, laughing and of course a bit of eating..
Nothing fancy...
Just home made tomato basil soup, artisan bread, salad and dressing..
I promised to share the recipes with them here so...

Bread... HERE..

Home made Dressing..
6 T. Canola oil
1 clove of garlic, squashed and put in whole..
2 T. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. Dijon Mustard
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste..
Whisk all together and pour over a mixed salad.
This is best if you let it sit at room temp for a few hours..

Thank you for dropping by..
This has been a busy week and I will do better next post, I hope..

Tomorrow night I plan on attending a book launching and am a bit excited..
The author is a local and her name is Beth Powning..
It should be interesting.. smile..

Well, dear hearts have a great week and I do have a few more interesting things for you soon..
God bless.. xo
