Cold weather projects and gingerbread spoons...

Happy Weekend, everyone..
We are having a lovely cool sunny one here in New Brunswick..

Terry and I went for a little drive up to our old farm a couple of days ago just to check on the place as it was so cold and he wanted to make sure the heat was still going..
The drive there is very beautiful and part of it is along the brook which is where the place gets it's name..
Prosser Brook..
It was still flowing which surprised me as it was so cold..

What a lovely shade of green, eh?

I could not even begin to get a photo of how beautiful it was..

This was actually almost like a small falls but I could not capture it with my camera..

Just imagine this old brook has run here for hundreds of years, probably..
I remember my uncle telling me that his Papa had moved to Prosser Brook and built the farm in 1907..

We checked everything out and Terry made a fire while I read since we were not staying..
Soon we headed home but stopped on our way at bee keepers who lives in a house which is tucked into a hollow...

Terry goes up to the door to knock and left the car door wide open..
Ok.... I am thinking ...
He will only be a minute..
A lady comes to the door and tries her best to hold two big German Shepherds in the house..
One of them gets out and starts barking ...
OK... the door is still wide open..
They are going to come out here and get right into the car, I am thinking..
A man now comes to the door and tells Terry to come in out of the cold and he pushes the two dogs out and closes the house door..
The dogs look around and decide to come over and check out the car..
Ok... the door is still open..
They don't really stop but go back to the house and wait for them to open the door again..
Well... that is good...
Meanwhile..
It is one of the coldest days we have had and my car door is still open..

I know .. I know..
Just reach over and close it..
Right?
So..
I take off my seatbelt and kind of quietly lean over to try to reach the door and yes the dogs hear me and come to the car door and both of them try to get in at the same time and barking at me..
With huge teeth only about a foot from my face...
Yup... just like I pictured it....
Lord help me..
Get out.. get out... I am saying.. sort of..

Then the lady comes running out and pushing at them to get them out and she is wiping off Terry's seat and apologizing..
She doesn't think they would hurt me..

No... No... that is ok....
I am fine .. no really.... I am fine..

My feet are numb and I might be literally shaking with terror but no...
I am fine..
Out comes the dear man with a large bottle of honey...

Oh honey.. are you ok?????
Oh sure...
I am fine.. no really.. I am fine..
Gotta love him..

When we got back I made this for his supper..
Honey Glazed Ribs...  grin..

Some fried rice, egg rolls and our homemade dill pickles..
I love dill pickles with rice..
I do not know why..
Remember..
I was making bread..

It turned out lovely and is so good..
We won't have it often but it was good until the last bite, believe me..
Michelle asked me if our flour is the same as the USA and the all purpose flour is the same..
As far as I know, anyway..

This is the bag that a Christmas present from our daughter came in..

The present was big and the bag ended up ripping..
I always recycle my bags so I couldn't bear to throw this one out..
Recycle, reuse and relove is my motto..
So while Terry was watching a movie (old cowboy ones) I cut the snowmen out..

Used my glue stick and pasted them onto a cereal box or such..

Cut them out and punched a hole in the top..
Tied a string for little hangers and then ran another piece of string through the loops..
Voila..
A winter garland..
Now I have to find a place to hang it..
Winter around here is for another 3 months abouts...

And...
I am working on my felted bed skirt..

I bought a beautiful red coat at the thrift store...

When we were at the farm I found this old wool blanket and cut it up..
Terry brought up my big canning pot and into the boiling water they went.
First the red then when they were boiled I changed the water and did the white one...
While the white one boiled I put the red pieces into the washer and washed them more in hot water and then rinsed in cold and spun them out..
Placed them all on a rack in the guest bathroom to dry..
Next week, Lord willing, I will tell you the rest of the story... grin.

And here is a pretty poor pic of my finished valance..
The colors are much prettier..

But you get the drift, eh?

Now..
Quite a few girls commented on the gingerbread spoons on my last post..

They are wonderful dipped in tea or coffee and very easy to make..
(Or so my friend Dawn was telling me) heehee..

Here is the link for the recipe right Here..

To make the cookies you just roll out as usual..
Place a spoon face side up and with a sharp knife (you may have to try a couple to find the one that works the best) and cut around it..
Using a frosting spatula or long thin one put each cookie on a sheet..
I then just pressed the spoon area down with my finger and put about a half of a teaspoon of turbinado sugar on top..
I bought the sugar at the bulk barn and use it for my cider mix and such..

So, dear girls that is all for tonight..
Thank you so much for answering my questionnaire..
You guys rock !!
If you have not done it and would not mind then just go HERE..
I appreciate all your help..

Tomorrow is the Lord's Day..

A Summer Weekend Country Style...

Hello everyone...
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a great beginning to a new week..

We just returned here to the cottage tonight..
What a busy weekend..

The first few weeks here are kind of hectic trying to get everything down from home and getting the cottage and shop up and ready..

Yes...
Most days it is worth the trouble..
Especially, those hot days back home..
Then I am so glad to be here in the fresh sea air..

Meanwhile.. we are busy getting it all together.. smile..
I hope I don't sound like I am complaining because I know it is such a blessing and hard work never killed anyone or so my Mother always told me..
I believe I passed that bit of knowledge onto my children.. grin....

I know you all like photos so I took a few of our weekend..

On Sunday we went to our home church and then home..
We had lunch and a nap and back to church for the evening..
It was lovely to sleep in our water bed that night... smile..

On Monday morning Terry decided he had better head to the farm to mow the grass so I packed a lunch and some craft work and away we went..
(Leaving the line full of clothes and the washer still humming.. grin)
We do not have a washer here ... sigh...
Here are a few country scenes you might like..
That donkey and turkey are two of my favorite neighbors up at the farm..
I watch for them every time...

Then as we were driving along Prosser Brook I told Terry I had spied something lovely..
The dear man turns the truck and trailer with the lawn mower on it around and back we go.. Turn the whole thing around again and slowly watching I spied them again..
A Mother Duck and about a dozen babies..
So dear..
We stopped but I just was not smart enough to catch their picture..

This is all I ended up with..
They disappeared under a overhang of trees..
Terry threw a rock and they went squawking and quacking..
It was so sweet..
What a lovely thing to see out in the wild..
I did take a pic of these..

Wild honeysuckle.. Maybe???
We checked for the ducks again on the way home but they were gone..

On to the farm....

Lovely cattle just before our old place..
Actually, that is our land up on the hill behind them..

And here we are...

The Lupins are all in bloom..
Aren't they pretty?

And there is the old place..

Sitting quietly on this Summer's Day..
The breeze blowing down from the Kent Hills..
The brook bubbling away and the birds singing praises to
the Lord..

Terry started mowing and I decided to take a couple pics of the flowers growing around the yard..

Johnny Jump Ups that my dear Aunt Eva planted many years ago..

Wild roses grow all along the lane..

There will be lots of rose hips in the Fall..
I made lunch and tea dyed a bunch of tags for the shop..
It was so hot at home and the old farm house was nice and cool..

Then we headed home and Terry had more lawns to mow and I had more laundry and packing to do..

This morning we loaded the truck in the pouring rain and headed to Fredericton where I had an appointment..

I took this pic the other day when it was a lovely sunny day..

Our Capital City located on the historic St. John River....
Beautiful...
Then back down to St. John where Terry bought some wood for our well house and then home here to our cottage by the sea..

Sammi is plain worn out... grin..

He was such a good boy today..
Spent practically the whole day in the truck and didn't cause a bit of fuss..

I think I will join him and say good night to you dear ladies..

Thanks so much for dropping by..
I am so glad you came..

And a welcome to the new followers ...

Looking forward to reading your notes...
Take care and God bless...

That husband of mine...

Happy Friday everyone..
Hope you are all having an awesome day..

We woke up to a simply beautiful morning..

Terry decided he needed to take some stuff out to the farm so of course if he goes then I want to go along too..
smile..

The closest route for us to get there has been closed all Winter due to the fixing of one of the bridges..

Today, my darling husband  thinks perhaps we should take a short cut that people with four wheel drives are taking..

It has been raining here all week and I kindly pointed this fact out to him..

I don't know about your husbands but mine thinks that he knows best when it comes to such things... (rolled eyes)  ..

Hey, he can probably save a few bucks worth of gas.. right?

Well...
This is what the GOOD part of the road looked like..

Did I mention that we were also hauling a loaded trailer?

Now.. one of my most unfavored things to do is ride old muddy back roads even on good days.. The day after heavy rainfall makes it an even more unfavored thing for me to want to do..sigh..

I again KINDLY point out that it would no doubt cost a lot more to get the whole thing hauled out of there then to go a few extra miles..

Oh my... He says he has it all under control...
RIGHT...
We go about a mile then he decides to get out and see what it is like ahead a bit..

Me ...
I am in the truck calling on the Lord to get us out of there..

He gets back in and with my eyes tightly closed and calling on heaven he goes a ways further..

Then ...
Wisdom came down and he gets out and unloads and unhooks the trailer and pulls it out of the way by hand..
.
Oh man.. I hope I don't have to call 911 way back here..
Does my phone even work?
Oh Lord help us...

Did I mention that the road is very narrow with mud on both sides?

Well, thank the good Lord we get turned around and the trailer rehooked and finally get out of there..

All thanks to the grace of God..

BUT..
GUESS WHAT THIS DEAR MAN SAYS TO ME AS WE TURN ONTO THE PAVED ROAD???

"I hope you never talk me into doing something like that again!!"

Yup... that is what I am married to... grin..

Oh well... Life goes on... eh!

We arrive at the farm without hardly even any mud on the truck...
Another miracle..smile..

The trees are beginning to get their leaves..
We had stopped at the store and picked up a few things for me to make lunch with..

Tomato and Bacon Buns...
Nothing fancy but good..

Beautiful skies today...

The old apple tree is slowly starting to bud..

And the lilacs are greening up..

Choke Cherries are budding, too.
.
After everything is unloaded Terry went back to the brook to look for fiddleheads..
They are a wonderful wild fern that grows here along the brooks and rivers.. They taste something like asparagus only better..

I cleaned up and took a wee walk and we head home again..

Such a quiet and peaceful place ...
Only the birds singing and the wind blowing...

Thank you dear ladies for your sweet visit..
I hope you find this a bit entertaining.. smile..
All is well that ends well, eh?

Take care, dear hearts..
Looking forward to reading all your little notes that you leave me..

May the Lord bless and keep you...

Country road take me home... .

Good Evening...
Just sharing some pics that I took today when we went for a little drive  to check up on our old farm..

It is a winter's day here in rural Eastern Canada...
It is not really a cold day and as you can see we do not have a lot of snow...
Usually. there is much more..
I am not complaining.. smile..

Prosser Brook is not even frozen over..

Our old barn looks kind of lonely on this dull winter's day...

The rural roads are snow covered up here in the hills...

An old barn ...

A big old house .. alone and neglected...

An old church which has been empty for many years...

Lumber cut and ready.....

Clearing land for a huge water reservoir for the city....
Some of this land used to belong to my family...

We used to go swimming in this creek ...

Another old barn ...

There are many horse farms here in New Brunswick...

The road was cleared to our friend's camp ..
The fire was burning but no one was home.. grin..

Some beautiful berries in the snow...

We need to go home now..
Hope you enjoyed the little field trip..smile...

Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow, my dears..
Love to you all...

Let everything alive give praises to the Lord!
