Just an Olde Cottage Barn...

Hello sweet ladies..
Just a few pics of the olde cottage barn tonight..
I hope you like them..
This used to be my shop but it was very damp for these old bones.. smile..
Peppermint growing in the enamel colander on top there..
I decided to put some lace valances in the windows..
Looks like someone is home.. smile....

Monkshood growing in profusion...

As is everything else...
I kinda like a mish mash of flowers..
I am not a mulch type of person..
Sad, really... grin...
Oh well... my mint is growing, too...

Love old bird houses..

This is a very old wreath..
Perhaps I should replace it...
Yeah... soon...

My dear dad's favorite flowers..
He started them from seeds between wax paper every Spring..
Geraniums... Red ones...
I have some every Summer and remember him...

The wind chime was clanging kinda loud so that I had to pin it back.. smile..
The folks next door may not like it as much as we do..
grin..

The Tidal Watch Inn...
Lovely, eh?
Definitely not just an olde summer cottage... smile..

Last but not least...
We are having our Keepers by the Sea over niter on Friday night...
Yeah.....
This is a pic from last Summer's time...
Are they arriving or leaving??? smile...
We always have a fun time and are expecting some good fellowship together...
How are you all enjoying your Summer?
Thanks for dropping by..
Peace to you all on this lovely Summer's Eve...

An Olde Cottage Supper....

Hello everyone.. How are you all?
I thought perhaps that I would share my late afternoon with you..
It's suppertime here in this little coastal village and the late afternoon sun is shining in the olde cottage kitchen windows..
Beautiful out there isn't it?
There is a lovely breeze off the bay and this old kitchen feels like it probably did 100 years ago...
Except it is just me here... No little feet running around..
Oh... yes there is Sammi... smile..

The little sneak..
I put him in the front of the house and closed the gate so he wouldn't be under my feet.. smile..
He has discovered since the grandsons were here that he can go up the front stairs and go through to the back of the house and come down the back stairs and stare at me through the French door... What a brat... smile ... Worse than a kid as my Mom would say... giggle.. Oh, yes... I let him out...

Anyway... I am trying to think what I should have for supper..
It's Summer so I guess I will make salad.. eh?

Here's  a recipe in my favorite Lebanese book..
I bought some beets at the market yesterday.. They were only 79 cents... I told the girls that I wanted to make a salad..
Salad??? .... they said.. grin.. Yup...
Anyway...
The beets are on cooking..
Forgive my fancy pot... grin..
This is only a camp as my hubby likes to say..
Through that door on the left is the kitchen pantry..
No cupboards in this old place so forgive all the hanging stuff..
Here is where I keep some of my salad fixins..
I have kind of a copper thing going on here...

Old copper pots hanging which I am working away at cleaning..
I can't seem to get them all done.. Probably by the time we leave for home in September they will get finished..
smile..
Oh well...

There is the back door to the left there..
Such an old place... no counter top, either..
I use my table and hutch a lot and then as you can see I have that old fifties drop leaf under the window that comes in handy if I need more working space...

I think I will make a pasta salad, too..
It only takes a few minutes...
Slice up some cukes, tomato chunks, red onion slices and lots of garlic and basil...
Add some cooked pasta and a lemon juice and oil salad dressing..I just make my own.. 1 part lemon juice to 2 parts oil..
I use basil salt and freshly ground pepper..
I also put a wee dish of lemon slices on with these salads..
Looks like summer, eh?
Oh, I changed the beet salad recipe...
I changed the white onion to red onion.
And added lots of fresh purple basil and basil salt and pepper ...Oh and  I used lemon juice instead of vinegar this time..

It is really tasty and so summer pretty...
I think so anyway..

Only one more pic for you all..
Just one of the shop..
I sold 2 cupboards last week and so had to replace them and turn stuff around..
Lots of old prim candle holders to buy ..
This is an old music box cupboard..
I almost sold it too to some folks from Ontario..
Oh well, someone will want it..
Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful season of the year..
We Canadians try to get every ounce of Summer that we can..
God will bless us with lots of cooler temps soon..

I was just thinking...
Isn't the Lord precious?   Isn't it wonderful just to feel His presence when you are all alone in an old kitchen someplace..
Just looking out the window and feeling  so thankful that one day He called you out of this old sinful world..
I will never be able to repay but He paid the debt He did not owe...
Now today in this old place it doesn't matter what comes or goes because I am in the palm of His hand and all is well..
God Bless you dear girls where ever you are on this lovely Summer's Eve...
Thanks for visiting...
Looking forward to hearing from you all..

The Old Back Stairwell and Grandsons....

Happy Weekend everyone..
Just a very short post tonight.. The shop was very busy today.. Old Home Week is winding down.. Tomorrow is the parade and then it is basically over..

Here are a couple of pics of this old cottage..
Hope you are enjoying seeing these as I seem to be short on inspiration the last few days.. Sorry..
Next week should be a bit more normal... smile..

This is the old back stairwell ...
This is the back way up to the boy's clubhouse..
They all slept up there last night... smile..
One decided to roll out of bed.. oh oh...
I didn't hear a thing..
Don't tell their mother.. grin..

Love the color of the treads and floor boards...
Old crocks...

An old doll that I made back in the seventies...smile..
And another bird nest gift from our son many years ago..
And yes that is sand or dirt from the beach...
It may as well stay there till they are gone.. eh?

I wonder what they are up to?  giggle..
They have found Gramps' secret hideaway upstairs in the front hall..
They are just watching the Discovery Channel...
And pretending to be sleeping.. smile..

I am downstairs doing this and they are just up the stairs laughing their heads off at some antics of little kids... grin..
Bless them, dear Lord and let them always be so happy...

Have a great evening sweet ladies and thanks for visiting..
LOVE.. LOVE.. YOUR COMMENTS..
(yours, too little Loren..)
God bless and keep you all in His Precious Care..

Company and a Recycle Project for you...

Hello my friends...
How are you all?  I wonder what your weather was like today..
We were so blessed with cool temps... I was chatting with my sister up home and she said it was so hot she could hardly stand it.. I told her I had a heavy sweater on and had to close a couple of windows in the shop..
Can you imagine she is only an hour and a half away.. All day folks kept dropping by the shop and saying they had come to St. Martins to get cooled off because it was so hot just a couple of hours away but they all left their sweaters at home..
The wind is blowing and the rain is coming down here by the Bay tonight..I love it.... smile..
And guess what?

We have some precious company.. They are all up in their clubhouse under the eves reading their books and listening to the rain pattering on the roof...
Two grandsons and their friend who calls me Grandma, too..
Isn't that sweet....
Oh, and they have their bowls of chips and Pepsi.. grin..
Isn't God good... Dear memories...

Anyway...
I wanted to share a little project that I made while waiting for my customers to come.. smile..
I saw the idea on pinterest...
I could not quite remember what it looked like so I did my own version...
A recycled doilie runner...

Here it is on our old cottage dining table..
The table needs redone so please excuse..
It is a great way to use up the doilies you may have in your linen drawers..
Here is a closer pic..
It is not perfect...

But you get the idea...
The one on PINTEREST  (click on to the word to see)   used big doilies...
You could make it as long as you would like..
I had just bought these small ones at an auction and decided that they would do...
This is the old tin light over the table...
I picked it up at a flee market a few years ago for just a few dollars and Shonda twisted the prim garland around the wire...

This is another room in this olde cottage that probably should be redone but I am not holding my breath... smile..
This is what the table and light look like from the front door..
Cozy, eh?
Even if it is ancient and dusty...
Lord help me... smile..

We had a lot of lovely company today at the shop..
My youngest reader came through the door and saying in front of my customers...
Hey, Faye Henry.... I read your bwog.... lol..
She is only 5 I think and her Mom tells me they read my blog together every day... And she always calls me Faye Henry..
Then there were Jacob and Gabriel...
Such lovely old Bible names...
They are a few of my Keepers of the Home and are so looking forward to our SLEEPOVER in  a couple of weeks..
Well, sweet ladies ... have a lovely evening..
Thanks again for taking the time to stop by ...
I received so many emails from girls who wanted to leave a comment but could not..
If you want to I can copy it from the email to my site  if you like...
I have read a few blogs who are doing that..
Any which way I appreciate hearing from you all..
Shonda enjoyed your comments from the last posting she was telling me...
God bless you all until next time..
Love and Prayers...

Faye Henry... smile...

A Daughter's Gardening Touch..

Good Evening my dears..
Yesterday I was saying that I was going to Shonda's (our daughter's) house with some friends and that I would take a few pics...
So... here they are...
I just love this vine that wraps all around her veranda... She also loves prim birdhouses...

My fav spot whenever we visit..
I so love a porch swing.. Any kind of swing, really... smile..
Can you see that sweet little Ginger sitting over there?  I wonder who she is looking at..
Perhaps these genuine Canadian geese with their babes..
This little lake is full of water lilies...
I was tempted to try and get one for my wee water garden that I am trying to concoct ..
Shonda talked me out of it... I guess she didn't want to use her nursing and rescuing skills today... lol...
oh well... My friend Scot who lives here and brings me fresh trout will probably find me one.. just 1... That's all I need... grin..

A beautiful living arrangement...
And here she is discussing her latest garden adventure with our friends...

It seems to be coming along fine...
Oh.. and I snapped one from inside that I thought you might like...
This is an olde icebox and some vintage glassware...
See.. she takes after her mother a tiny bit.. grin..
Hers is just neater... smile..

Well, sweet ladies that is all for tonight..

The shop was busy this afternoon.. I had a wonderful chat with an 86 year old woman who is in better shape than I am and learned a lot of neat things.. She was hilarious and had me in stitches..
A good laugh.. I need one every once in awhile and you just never know who God will provide to give it to you...
She was such a dear soul and she hales from Newfoundland..

Thank you again for stopping by and do leave a comment if you have the time..
Peace to you all...

Red Red Rose.... Jelly that is .. and a tip....

Good Evening, my dears...
A simply beautiful day here in Maritime Canada...
The shop was busy with folks coming into town for all the festivities of Old Home Week here in St. Martins...
A very busy weekend... I will share some pics with you later..
Terry came down from home with a hug bag of these..
His prized rose petals....
Aren't they beautiful?  He has many colors but I find these make the best jelly...
Tonight, after I came home from the shop a couple of friends dropped by and wants to go to Shonda's house tomorrow...
So... I thought I had best get the jelly done tonight..
I found the recipe on the Internet as usual...
I am probably boring you girls crazy with all this jelly doings but that is what I am busy with so that is what I yak or I mean chat about... smile...
ROSE PETAL JELLY

Pour 3 cups of boiling water over top of 4 cups of rose petals... (they do not have to be red.. I just like the color)
I let that sit overnight and then strain through a coffee filter..
Keep in the fridge until you make it.. No longer than a day or so or else you can freeze it...
I used 4 cups of rose water and 7 cups of sugar along with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.  Bring to a full boil and let it boil for several minutes... 3 or 4
Then add 2 certo pouches and boil for another 3 minutes...
Skim off the foam and pour into sterilized jars...

It made 8 half pints of jelly...
Pretty, eh?  I think it is my favorite jelly.. I love the taste of it..

Anyway...
This is what it looks like here this evening around 7:30 p.m..
Do you notice how my mint chandelier is growing... smile..
This is looking toward the Bay as you probably know..
A wee mist is starting to come in, I think..
The water is very calm tonight..

Do you girls ever eat alfresco?
I love it and MAKE Terry like it, too.. Especially here at the cottage as it is just too nice to eat inside..
It is not very fancy..
But I love changing dishes and cloths just for the two of us..

After the yard sales on Saturday we went up to the new Inn for breakfast...
It was so delicious.... California Scramble...
Don't tell Mike but I am going to try and master that recipe.. grin..
They served us a glass of water when I had gone to the washroom and when I came back I took a drink...
??? What is in the water???
Oranges???
When the waitress came back I had to ask her and she said yes that they put sliced oranges in the water instead of lemons...
No more lemons for me..
I came home and made a big jug of water and oranges ...
She said that she does it at home and that the tastes stays good for several days and she just keeps filling it up...
Just thought you might like that wee tip..

Well, have a lovely evening and perhaps I will take some pics of our sweet daughter's house tomorrow... Her gardens are lovely..
God bless and keep you in His Precious Care...
Love to you all...
