My Mom..

Good Evening my dears..
A little different Saturday night post for you..
Today is my Mom's 83rd birthday!

I call her each morning and today she answered the phone and I told her, "Happy Birthday, Mom!"
She thanked me and then said, "Can you imagine, Faye!
I am 83 years old!  God has been so good to me!"  smile..

We miss our Dad who has been gone for almost 29 years and are so thankful that she is still here with us!

But for my post tonight
I thought that perhaps I would write a little bit about her..

Actually, she is quite a case!
I mean that she loves to have a good time and she loves people!
A good story or joke has her laughing..
She enjoys parties and gatherings and meeting friends wherever she goes..

Her favourite enjoyment is to feed you when you visit her..
The first thing she does is make the tea and there is almost always a few special sweets baked and ready for company..

She had enjoyed cooking and baking ever since my Gram (Dad's mother) taught her in the lumber camps when I was a baby..
She said that she and Gram never had a bad word between them.. smile..

She went to work in restaurants and one of them was a Chinese one in Moncton.. She loved the people who owned it and are still in contact with them even though they moved out west to B. C. many years ago..

She meets people in places like MacDonald's or Tim Hortons and makes friends with them..
Once couple she met lived in California and every once in awhile they phone and send her lovely gifts and she sends gifts back to them..
So sweet..

Mom and I are very different but very much alike at the same time..
My sister looks like her and favours Mom's side of the family.
She doesn't mind being told she looks like Mom.. Smile..
I must admit that when I look in the mirror sometimes I see her looking back at me! grin..

Nadine (my sister) phones Mom each day and we both call her when we need an ear to listen.. She always takes our side.. grin..

Mom is still a going concern although she has slowed down this past year and it scares me a bit..
I tell her to just keep on doing the things she loves..

After God and her family I think my Mom loves shopping the best..
Terry says the Dollar store will never go under as long as my Mom can get there and buy cat food for another love in her life which is her cat, Mable... Oh my!  That is another story..

She loves her flowers and plants and is always planting some kind of seeds even in the Winter months..
She was telling me that her tulips and daffodils are already up and that makes her so happy..

The other day I happened to call her in the afternoon and as we were chatting I decided to write down a few things she was saying to me as I had a pen in hand and my notebook open..

Just some everyday busyness she was doing..

She said she had a nice cake in the oven in case someone dropped by and Gerald (her husband) liked a little bit with his tea at supper..
Then she was saying that she had made friends with someone at the grocery store and they had given her some red roses which she had dried..
She was asking me how to make potpourri because she had a bottle which she wanted to fill and add some little fairy lights to make a little lamp type thing for a wee table in the dining room.
And...
She had put some petals in with corn starch and baking soda to make a rose powder that she thought would make a lovely gift for the lady who gave her the roses...
She had just the right little bottles that she had saved to put the finished powder in..

She said that she had just finished polishing some silver before I called her..
She had come across some old stuff in a box they had bought at the auction (another addiction she has..lol) ..
Auctions, I mean..
They went every Tuesday night for years..

I asked her what she was having for supper and  she said she was making Codfish Gravy with a bit of potato and the Pineapple Upside Down Cake she made would be for dessert...
God love her..

Some mornings she has bread made before I even get up ..
Yes, she still kneads up a batch of bread almost every week and gives most of it away to anyone who drops by..

Well, dear hearts I don't know if you will enjoy this or not but I have enjoyed chatting about her..

Mom and I are like most mothers and daughters who are so different but alike if you know what I mean..
She can drive me up the wall at times as I do her but she is such a loving mother..
She just loves to kiss and hug us all..

Our grandchildren are like her grandchildren and not her great grandchildren..
A family gathering is something she looks forward to for weeks and wondering what she should wear.. smile..

She prays for each one of us early every morning sitting in the rocking chair beside the dining room window.
Her little heater is on and Mable is at her feet..
She looks out at the moon and stars which she loves and prays to the One who made them...

Yes, I am thankful to the God that she and Dad led my sister and I to many years ago and so thankful that we are a family who serve Him..

Bless you for reading this and I pray you have a Blessed Easter and worship the One who arose again!
Victorious!

Spring Doings...

Good Evening everyone..

A little post here at the first of the week..
The wind is fierce the last couple of days and the snow has been disappearing very quickly..

I love Spring..
It is my favorite season of the year although I enjoy all seasons really.. Even Winter is not the big dread that I had when I was younger..
I have learned to enjoy the coziness of it all with Terry being retired and all.. So long as my children are not travelling to or from work during a storm I actually enjoy most of it..

But Spring just calls my name.. smile..

We went to the city today and bought a table set for our deck..
We needed a new one but since we spend most of the time at the cottage we only bought a cheap one..
We also plan on buying a Deck Swing but we could only find one at Costco and it was quite expensive so we are waiting for a week or two..
No other store had any for sale..
I don't know what's up with that..

I have wanted a swing for years so I am looking forward to it..
This will be our anniversary present to each other as we did not take a little trip or such..

You who have read the blog for a while know we spend a lot of time at our old farm in the Spring..
Well, the picture above is dear hubby taking in some strapping for the ceiling in the back porch..
He has been puttering away at it for quite awhile now so I have finally started putting a bit of pressure on him to finish..
He has tried to spend a day a week up there all Winter so I am wondering how comfortable that old couch there is.. grin..
He is also carrying newspapers to make a fire which he puts on each time he goes..
The snow is still deep and he has to snowshoe in but after the wind and rain this week we are hoping that I will soon be able to go, too..

As the wind was blowing and the rain coming down I took some books and such and sat in the truck for an hour or two and waited for him..

I worked on my crochet..
I am making a mason jar cozy..

And a few mags and books..
Note the size of those snow banks..
Yup... this is Canada..
Once the snow starts to leave it really doesn't take long, though..
These pics were taken last Friday, I think and our fields today are almost bare..

Then our old back roads look like this..

That dear man I am married to loves roads like this and I detest them..
I made him turn around here because I was not wading in the mud to get out..

On our way home tonight we had to travel through water twice before we reached home as the river has overflowed it's banks..
We just go from one extreme to another but no worry..
We are used to it..

Today with snow piles in parking lots fifteen feet high there were people everywhere with hardly any clothes on...
We are a  tough breed, I am thinking..
I prefer a bit of modesty myself but anyway..

A very good thing today is my Mom's 80th birthday..
I posted that we all (17 of us) had taken her out to dinner a couple of weeks ago but her actual day was today..
We are so thankful to still have her with us..
Our Dad has been gone for 25 years and we miss him so but Mom is a going concern..
She bakes pies, breads and such almost every day..
They have a lot of company... smile..
And almost every day she and her husband go shopping..
She told me this morning that she doesn't think she can keep going and picking up cat food or whatever every day..
I told her she should just go every other day then.. grin..

I am just thankful she is quite healthy and so is our Step-Father..
They sure enjoy each other and that is wonderful for not only them but for her family, too..

I had to include this little face..
So cute...

Well, thank you dear friends for dropping by and leaving your sweet comments..
I truly appreciate it..

I must get to bed and listen to the wind..
It is 10:30  (a bit late for me) smile..
Nightie night..

It still seems like Winter here...

Good Evening everyone..
Just a little posting tonight..

We have had a couple of lovely days..
A bit mild during the day and then cold and windy nights..
Lots of icicles hanging around..

There is a big storm forecast for Wednesday..
That doesn't mean it will get here but it probably will..
You can feel the Spring in the air, though..
It has me in the housecleaning mode.. smile..

We had some sweet company the other day..
A few little visitors looking at books and eating cookies..
The dogs were up on the snowbank outside the window and would have loved to join us..
I knew they were coming so made a few sweeties ..
Chocolate Macaroons... most kids love them..

And then my friend told me she made a pan of those squares so I had to, too.. smile..
Hello Dollies..

I took the picture of the old barn when we were on our way to the city last week..
I wonder if she accepted.. smile..

My dear Mom is turning 80 on her birthday next month..
We could all get together this past weekend so we did..
All 17 of us..
She had a great time..
I will post a few more pics on her actual birthday which is
 April 15..

Are you ladies in the Spring cleaning phase yet?
It is not the same as it used to be, eh?
I do want to clean some closets and drawers..
Take down curtains and hang them out.
That kind of stuff...

Well, dear ladies sorry for the short post but to be honest I have a weird flu..
I feel much better today but have times of being so dizzy.. ugggh..

Thanks so much for your visits and comments..
So appreciate you all..
Ya all rock.. smile..

God bless..
