The Closing Days of October...

Hello once again my friends..
Hope all is well with you ..

What lovely days we are having here in the Maritime provinces of Eastern Canada..
Flowers are still in bloom and we only need to wear sweaters..
There have been a few colder days but this has been one beautiful Fall..
Thank you, Lord..

But.... they are calling for snow on Sunday..
Quite a bit by the sounds of it all but mostly in the northern part of our province so we will no doubt get rain..
I hope so anyway..

I do not look forward to Winter..
We have children who need to get to work no matter what the weather if you know what I mean..

At least, Terry is no longer traveling 30 miles to work..
One advantage of being retired... smile..

Now..
I want to show you a lovely gift that my Mom gave me..

That is my breakfast early this morning..
Dark toasted bread with mayo, tomato and sprouts..

When I went over to make my coffee I noticed that the sprouts were ready..  smile..
And even though it was still a bit dark outside and much earlier then when I usually have my breakfast I couldn't resist..
So...
I had this with a wonderful hot cup of coffee with milk..

We haven't had sprouts since Spring but now is when we start eating them again..

Anyway..
This is the gift Mom surprised me with..

A three layer sprouter..

Neat, eh?
I had not seen one like this before..
And it only took 3 days...
Tonight they are even bigger..

I love it...
I think she bought it at the auction they go to each week.. smile..
She is a good Mama.. smile..
So thankful for her..

I think I will share a little funny story that happened tonight..

She had phoned me and left a message saying she wanted the recipe for making Naturism Vinegar..
I had helped her make it earlier in the Fall but she could not remember how to do it and her hubby had picked the rest of her Naturism so she could make more as she had given hers all away..

I gave her a call and she was telling me she had company this afternoon and she was showing them the vinegar she had made earlier and how impressed they were..

It has been a joke between us for years of how whenever I show her how to make something she doesn't let on to her friends that she learned it from me.. grin..
Honestly, I do find it so funny..
She will just go on and tell them that she knows how to make rose powder, rosemary salt and flavored vinegar or whatever..
I will laugh and ask her if she told them your daughter showed you how to do it..
She says that she just tells them that she does it and then we both start to laugh..
I don't know why we think it is funny but we do..

Anyway, today her company loved the look of her vinegar (it is a pretty orange color) and asked her for the recipe..
Oh dear..
She couldn't remember how to do it.. LOL..

I said to her that they must have thought it was funny that she made it but couldn't remember how.. LOL..
Poor Mom..
We must have laughed for 5 minutes..

After that I told her again and I am sure another bottle has already been created.. smile..

Today I made bread...
It is the first time for a couple of months..
I have not been eating much bread at all but when the sprouts were ready  I couldn't help myself.. smile..

Homemade bread, mayo and sprouts are simply delicious or so I think..
This is pure hippy food.. grin..

I posted on sprouting..

So...
On with the story..

As I mentioned in another post I have decided to have a table at a Christmas craft show that Shonda is involved in at her church..
It is on November 15 in St. John...
I will give more details if anyone wants them..

With that in mind I have begun...
I am not doing all crafts but a mixture of things..
Apple things..

Homemade Apple Jelly
which is not tagged yet..

Homemade Old Fashioned Apple Butter..
not tagged, either.. yet...

Lemon Peppermint Foot Soaks..

which needs tags and such also..

Tomorrow, Lord willing, I plan to make Lavender and Rosebud Soaps..
and
Between the Sheets Lavender Powder
and
so on and so on.. smile..

Well, dear hearts this is all for tonight..
So thankful for your lovely comments and such wonderful emails..
I so appreciate hearing from you..
It makes blogging a pleasure.. truly...

God bless you dear girls..

Days of our lives..

Good Evening, my dears..
Welcome to the Blessed Hearth tonight..

We are all well and like everyone else in this world; we are a tad busy..

Last week I had hoped to get all of my canning and preserving finally finished..
I canned jars and jars of pears and carrots and such...

Then today my sweet hubby bought 20 more pounds of beets..
We opened the jar that I made from a recipe from my UK friend and found them delicious..
So..
I guess we will be doing a few more.. smile..

Had a lovely cup of carrot and ginger soup for lunch one day but you guessed it..
Hubby did not want any..
Only ordinary soups for him..

There seems to be so much to forage for this time of year..

Rose hips again..
There is just so much to do with them..
I actually wanted these ones to put in the dehydrator and for a wreath I was making..

We were also blessed with some sweet company..

Someone had a birthday..
He received a Grandpa toy...
That means he gets to leave it at our house and then they can play with Grandpa when they visit.. smile..

One of Mickey's favorites is a Caesar Salad..
Love my Salad Greens Dryer bag...

I finally got to my Hydrangea Wreath that I had been wanting to make..

I added rose hips and they will dry on the wreath..

I noticed it is not sitting straight on the chair but it did turn out right..smile..

Such an easy and rewarding craft to make and will literally last for years..
I made the wreath from some grapevines someone snipped from their vines and wired it together to make an oval..
Then just glued on sections of flowers and rose hips with a glue gun..
Easy..

Anyway..
Terry picked some High bush Cranberries, too..
For my friend, Cheryl who reads the blog...the cranberries are ready to pick...
I am a bit late but there are still lots and I guess you can pick them all Winter..
We freeze them and make a lovely juice from one year to the next..

Even decorated the Supper table with them..

Trevor found the old bottle on the shore of the Belleisle Bay..
Notice the lovely beet pickles..

Love the old plates that I picked up at a thrift store a couple of years ago..

Do you ladies love old dishes?

Well, this seems to be a long post..
Sorry about that..

Probably you have all hung up on me by now but I had a phone call today from one of my favorite wee blog followers who thinks I do not post often enough and can't imagine why I would only write one line.. (Last post) smile..
I think he misses seeing his pic on here, too..
So..
I have included another one.. grin..
His Dad sent it to me by email..

It was titled..
Want to be like Gramps..
How cute is that?
Mustaches... yeah!!

Perhaps, I shouldn't say this but if they turn out like their
Grandpa they will be wonderful men and their families will be blessed..
They may drive their wives and kids crazy sometimes but they will always know that they are loved..
They will also have their priorities in line..
Putting God and family above their own pursuits and no matter when they are needed they will be available..
Honest, faithful and hard working..

Just saying... smile..

Well, thank you dear hearts for listening to me one more time..
And Rafe I will try to do a better job and post more often..
Ok..
Grandma loves you..

God bless you all and I look forward to hearing from you ..
Oh and welcome to the new followers ..
I hope I can bless your life in some way..

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers..

Lead me, Lord..

Ecclesiastes 3:7

A time to tear apart and a time to sew together.  A time to be silent and a time to speak.

Getting fire wood on a Canadian Fall day.. .

Good Evening, dear hearts..
How are you all doing in your part of the world?

Today has been another sad day in Canada as another senseless tragedy has taken place with the shooting death of one of our own  soldiers in our capital city..

This world is getting to be a scary place even here where we are known to be lovers of peace..
We so need to pray for our government and the protectors of our  country..

Meanwhile...
Terry and I went to the woods yesterday..

He needed to chop some more fire wood for Winter ..
Actually, I believe that this is for next year as this season's is already in the basement..
I guess that is how it is done..
Chop this year for next and so on.. smile..

Anyway, I did not want him going alone so I packed up a bag of books and a lunch and away we went..

Picking up the mail yielded this book from Amazon that I ordered a couple of weeks ago..

Good timing!!

Our Canadian woods are a beautiful place to be this time of year..

And the wind was blowing so I was a happy gal..
Terry chopped wood and I read and made lists.. (That is one thing I like to do..)
Shonda wants me to share a craft table with her at a Christmas show so I had a few plans to make..
I may try it.. smile..

After a while we had a bit of lunch..

A thermos of tomato soup and a bit of homemade bread that my Mom made..

Terry had a couple of salmon sandwichs with some homemade pickles..

A glass of ginger ale hit the spot, too..
The mosses and ferns and foliage are so beautiful..
Nearby, were a few windmills...

The drive up to the Kent Hills is uphill all the way.. grin..

Midway through the afternoon the thermos of  tea came out..

What is there about having a hot cup of tea outside on a cool windy day?  It tastes so good and I am sure it is just what the doctor ordered.. smile..

During the War everyone drank tea during each crisis and it helped everyone to calm down..
I think it works.. grin..

Watching Terry (who is not a young man) cutting down wood with a running power saw in one hand and a pulp hook in another is not really my cup of tea.. The wood was huge and heavy ..

I felt like I had been drug through a knot hole backwards by the time we came off that mountain..

But several hours later it was time to head back home with a trailer and the back of the truck full of wood..
He's a good man... smile..

We did have a flat tire on the way back in the dark..

Ohhh.. I was so glad to get home..

I think he only needs to get one more load.. I hope.. smile..
Terry thinks I would like for him to live in a bubble..grin..
Are you ladies like me when your husbands are just not the youngsters they think they still are..
Oh well..
I am thankful that he still has the health and strength to do this..
I will just be glad when this chore is done.. eh?

On another note I am also thankful for this country that we live in..
For the people who put their lives on the line every day to protect us..
I pray that God will cover them with His divine protection..

Thank you, sweet friends for dropping by the Blessed Hearth tonight..
Your comments mean so much to me and make blogging so worth the effort..

Hugs..

A Farm Day Thanksgiving...

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone..
This has been a wonderful weekend full of blessings..

Thanksgiving in Canada is an awesome beautiful time of year..
As you can see the Lord has used his paintbrush and created a lovely portrait..

We actually celebrated this holiday with our family last weekend  with a wonderful Turkey Dinner at our oldest son's house..
We also had family pics taken with my Mom and her husband..
What a blessed day we had..

Then on this Saturday, Terry and I headed up to our old farm in Albert County for the day..

Isn't it a pretty place this time of year??

Terry had rented a bush cutter and spent many hours pushing the thing around the fields. smile..
It makes him happy so that is a good thing..

As for me, I put the turkey in to cook..

Did a bit of decorating..
Don't you love Chinese Laterns?

Made a couple of apple pies..

And a couple of Banana Breads..
A little dressing and cucumber salad..

A simple turkey dinner for the two of us..
Then home again..
We did make a small stopover so a grandson could try out the new toy...

Then on Sunday we were blessed to share another Thanksgiving Dinner with our sweet church family..
It was so much fun and the food was awesome ..
That made 3 turkey dinners for us.. smile..

Then once again this morning we went to the farm again for Terry to finish his bush cutting..

I had seen these little decorations on the news page..
Two little peat pots with apples and moss..
Carved out a space for tea lights..
There should have been little leaves tied on with twine but my pots were too small..
Oh well... they did the trick.. smile..

I made a turkey and barley soup...
Caesar Salad...

Oh yes.. and dumplings..
Terry's favorite..

For dessert more apples..

Apple Crisp...
It all tasted good..

My Mom and Step Dad dropped by and some friends here and there and gave Terry a hand pushing that thing around..
The fields look much better now.. smile..

All in all it has been a great time..
God has blessed us with such a dear family along with our church family that we love so much..

Then with a roof up above us and a fine place to sleep, food on our table and shoes on our feet..
We are indeed blessed..
And we live in a great country where we still have peace and freedom...
God has been good to us..

But most of all tonight, I am thankful for salvation..
Thankful that He died for me and made a way that I can spend eternity with Him..
He forgave my sins and gave me a brand new life..

Thank you, sweet Lord for your blessings..

And I am thankful for you dear friends who are so faithful in supporting this blog by dropping by and visiting and leaving your sweet comments..

Happy Thanksgiving everyone..
