House of Henry Open House... first day over....

Happy Labour Day weekend, everyone..

It has been a very busy and hectic week around here.. I hope you noticed that I have not been blogging very much..smile..

I hope to get back at it next week..

My first day of Open House is over, thank you sweet Lord..

Now, I can relax and enjoy the rest of it.. It is all set up and all I have to do is to add to it as I get something finished or dug out..

There were a lot of people.. old and new customers and friends..

So glad I made so many..

Salves sold really well, too..

Well, my dears that is all I can come up with for tonight..

It was good to see friends from home and thank you so much for all the sweet offers of help.. You Keepers of the Home are awesome.. Thanks .... I know you mean it, too...

And thank you  for dropping by.. I hope to get back in the groove soon .. I have some wonderful new ideas for you all..

Fall is coming and now is the time to prepare for .............   smile.. I can't say the word or even type it.. I so love Summer and will even stamp my feet and cry to keep it here but to no avail...

Fall is in the air and I may as well accept it although the good part is that I will soon be back home..

We love it here at the cottage but we also love to be home..

Sunday Night Blessings...

Hello everyone..

Surprise.. surprise I am posting on a Sunday evening..

We are generally in church and I seldom am on the computer much on a Sunday but tonight we are having a car problem and had to stay home..

I intensely  dislike car problems.. mine or anyone else's.. If we are driving by someone and their car is parked on the side of the road I always say a wee prayer for them that their car will be easily fixed.. smile...

We had just left church this morning and the car was making a weird sound.. Oh no... Now what?  Aren't we so predictable?

We always panic before we even know what is wrong.. OK.. I.. always panic... grin..

Terry said that sounds like a wheel baring..

Well, to make a long story short... He went and bought the part at Canadian Tire store but he has to go home where the tools are to fix it.. So for tonight we are here at the cottage..

And so...

I thought I would show you another wee scenic pic here in the village of St. Martins..

This takes us back to the cottage and past the harbour..

Home to a Sunday night Supper..

Delicious Mussels cooked in garlic, onion and chicken broth..

Some toasted bread rubbed with garlic to sop up the juices..

And then a bowl of hodge podge with our new green beans that Terry picked at home and brought down..

Then later some blueberry ice cream..

Yup... the diet starts tomorrow.. grin...

Anyway..

My Open House for the shop is coming right up in a couple of weeks at the House of Henry here in St. Martins, N. B.

I am planning it for the Labour Day Weekend so that I can go home earlier this year..smile.. There is no place like home..

With that in mind I am making plans galore and hoping to get much accomplished in the next few weeks.. With the help of the Lord...

Guess what I am planning on making with these..

Lovely Rose petals that my sweet husband picked for me..

And these...

Pearly Everlastings that are in bloom here right now..

And lots of these...

Rose hips to ripen and dry...

And of course... Oranges...

They need to be sliced and put in the dehydrator...

Right... Homemade Potpourris..

Cinnamon Orange .. my best seller..

Pumpkin Spice...Crows in the Apple Trees, Blueberry Fields and the Sandalwood is all made...

Then there are lots of these done but much more to make..

Dill....

Sweet garlic dills and Garlic Dills and ..

Sandwich Dill Slices...

Did I mention that Terry has cut me out a bunch of different wood pieces that need painted and primmed up...

Along with homemade salves, deodorants,  foot powders, hand salt scrubs, healing balms, and more..

Several old tables, cupboards and stands to be painted and distressed... grin..

Oh, I hope I get some prim sewing done..

Yeah.. I know.. I am crazy..

Hope you will all plan to come out and see for yourselves...

You can have some Hot Apple Cider and  try some pickles and sniff the potpourris... OK?

Now I am including a pic of something that I hope to do a post on tomorrow or soon anyway..

I know you probably get tired of me talking about herbs but they are so good for you.. God planned on us using them... He gave them to us for our health.. Come back and check it out.. OK?

I wanted to mention before I go about all the wonderful customers and friends that we had at the shop this past week..

It was so good to see some friends that we had not seen for ages..

God has so blessed us with friends.. It was lovely to see you all and the new girls that came in and told me they read my blog..

Weekend Activities and a Fish Cake Recipe..

Hello everyone...

Hope you all have had a good weekend.. I thought I would share some pics with you of some of our weekend doings.  We were very busy but had a wonderful time..

Friday night we attended a lovely outdoor birthday party for one of our dear friends.  It was so much fun and nice to see everyone. 

Then on Saturday Terry and I went for a long country drive...

Such beautiful scenery...

You could literally see for miles.

A friend of ours has bought a camp up in the hills and we tried to find it.

Yikes... the road was just an old logging road and very steep..

My poor wee car... smile.. 

They were cutting the wood here and it was like it was on the edge of the world.

I jumped out to take a picture while Terry went to turn around the car.  This camera did not even begin to do the scene justice but I guess you can get an idea ....

Then Sunday was spent at church in the morning and then in the evening a friend and I went to St. John to our district Youth Convention..

It was amazing..  Around 2500 people and most of them were our youth..

What a blessing to see our grandsons enjoying the presence of the Lord in such an awesome way..

It was very late by the time I arrived back home..

I am really getting too old for such late hours.. grin..

Thank goodness we could sleep in a bit this morning. When we got up it was to pack up the car AGAIN and head to the cottage for the day...

Terry hooked up the water and I worked at the shop.. Cleaning and dusting, doing the windows and sorting stuff...

Tidying up the herb beds and planting some new ones....My Spanish lavenders did not survive the winter... sigh...

The English lavender is doing great though...

I decided to take a short break for a cup of blackberry tea..

All the way down to the cottage I kept looking in the ditches and fields for some more violets.  The salve I made last week is lovely and I know it will sell.  I could not see any but Terry said he saw some last week in a field near where he was working.. It was another half hour away, though and I kept hoping I would see some.

Then just as we left St. Martins on our way home I thought I saw a patch of purple.  Terry had to turn the car around but sure enough there was a huge patch of violets..

Thank you, Lord.. Isn't God good?  It was just a little thing but still it meant a lot to me to find them...

The Lord just does little things like that for us all the time, doesn't He?  I just love that about Him... He is just so faithful even in the wee things..

And then look at these beautiful things..

Aren't they simply gorgeous..

I love how this pic turned out..

We picked a big bag of them and I plan on doing them tomorrow...

I am just toooooo tired tonight...smile..

We finally arrived home and I made us some fishcakes.. Do you like them?  We don't have them very often but they are one of Terry's favorites.. I have been really trying to fit a lot more fish into our diet...

Here is the recipe sort of... Sorry, it is one of those pinch of ones... smile..

Easy to do, though and I know our kids even use to like them...

Fish Cakes..

As many potatoes as you think you need for your family..

Peel and cut up and put in a pot.

Add 1 large onion, peeled and chopped.

Cover with water and add some salt and boil until tender.

Towards the end add some white fish fillets and cook until tender..

Drain well and add a can of drained crab fish.

Mash with your masher and add a piece of butter, salt and pepper and a beaten egg.

Stir well and add some dill or parsley..

I always add some lemon seasoning or you can squeeze some lemon if you like.. 

In a heated frying pan add some butter and fry until brown on both sides.

We like to have tartar sauce with these...

And a green salad of course..

Well, that is all for tonight dear ladies..

This is a very busy week for me ... I have fiddlehead pickles, violet salve, rhubarb ginger spread and dandelion jelly to make..

Wheww... I need to get to bed..smile...

Good Morning, dear ladies...

Another rainy day here in New Brunswick.  I think Terry said it is the third week of rain but who is counting?  smile..

Now on to today's posting..

Yesterday, Terry and I went down to St. Martins to check on our cottage and for me to look over the shop and see what stock I had left and all that... smile.... Yikes.. I have a lot to do.. 

Anyway, I thought as most of you probably were not following the blog this time last year ( I had only started)  that you might like to see where we spend our summers.. 

It is only Spring here in Eastern Canada and not as lush as my friends to the South but still beautiful... 

You probably all realize by now  that I love the wind and rain.. I was telling Terry yesterday that I always enjoy it when our first day there is that kind of day ... and it was... smile... 

Very windy and very rainy... 

When we go down we always drive to the end of Main Street and then come back to our cottage.. 

We like to see what is new and changed and to greet the Bay of Fundy in all of it's glory... It is just so beautiful.. I thank God for this wonderful body of water.. I have loved it since I was a wee child... Thank you, Lord.. It has the highest tides in the world.. 

That's what they advertise anyway... smile... 

So..on with the show.. smile.. 

Part of the way down Main Street we pass this little shop.. 

THE HOUSE OF HENRY....

Oh, I was so happy to see that the magnolia trees were all in bloom.  I think we almost missed them as petals were falling everywhere.. We will go up and check the shop after a bit..

First we drive down further to see the harbour...

There are 2 covered bridges right here, too..

And shops and rentals....

We just went through one bridge and are headed for the caves.. This is looking on the other side of the harbour.  Lots of fishing boats out and about...

The tide is in....

I should have taken more pics but it is foggy and I was not thinking .... I just took a few ..

This is looking through the windows of a wonderful restaurant there in the village..

Wonderful fish....anyway you like it cooked...

We turned around here and head back to the cottage...

Now we go back through the bridge and you can now see the other one..

That is called Orange Hill ...

I wonder why..

A beautiful spot.  My cousin lives up at the top and she can see for miles out over the Bay...

Past the harbour again and back up Main Street. 

Now we turn into our street..

And there is the cottage..  A very old house that had two families born and bred here as they say...

We always look in and then drive down to the end of the street to really greet the Bay...

It is rough out there today..

Then we turn around..

There are the caves over there...

And here we are....Terry says he needs to try and paint the house and barn this year...

We have arrived!!... There is my friend's cottage on the beach..

Summer will soon be here ..my dear..

She always brings me a Tim's coffee when she comes down for the weekend... bless her.. smile...
